“THE REAL”
KÁRYYN REMIXED IS OUT TODAY ON MUTE

Today Armenian-American producer, songwriter and vocalist KÁRYYN has shared the result of an incredible meeting of minds, as Cosey Fanni Tutti (Throbbing Gristle co-founder, musician, performance artist, and author) remixes her single, “the REAL”.
Listen to the urgent, propulsive rhythms of the remix HERE. Within it, Cosey lends her signature tones and sequencing to create a sense of delirious lamination of KÁRYYN’s original James Ford co-produced track, which The Guardian described on release as “techno-symphonic grandeur”.
Cosey Fanni Tutti’s remix is featured in a new EP, KÁRYYN REMIXED, which collates remixes from HAAi and Airspace, alongside an expansive strings reworking of the track by composer and violinist Raven Bush (member of the Ivor Novello Award-winning Speaks Corner Quartet).
The original version of “the REAL” opens KÁRYYN’s five-track Calm KAOSS! EP (“a stylistic triumph” – Clash), which featured “ODAR” and “Calm KAOSS!”. The EP, which served as a bridge to carry KÁRYYN from her formative inspirations into the future, was followed by “Ground”, a co-production between KÁRYYN, Hudson Mohawke and James Ford, which additionally featured in a high-profile campaign for Apple.

Kathryn Mohr Announces New LP for The Flenser: ‘Waiting Room’
Kathryn Mohr Announces Debut LP for The Flenser: Waiting Room
Out January 24, 2025. Listen to first single, “Driven.”

The music of Oakland-based artist Kathryn Mohr is refreshing and dedicatedly DIY. Her ruminative work, the result of many hours of walking, intricate song writing and field recording, confronts the dissonant impulses of humanity towards violence and tenderness.
Her new album Waiting Room– out January 24 on The Flenser– was written and self-recorded over the course of a month in eastern Iceland, within the walls of a disused fish factory surrounded by remote nature. Mohr spent hours immersed in the writing and recording of this album in a windowless concrete room lit with a string of multicolored light bulbs (which made their way into the album art), taking breaks to wander the factory or disappear up the shoreline—field recorder in hand. What came out of those recording hours are songs inspired by horror as extravagant as limb amputation by a faulty elevator and lyrics as maze-like and misguided as the torturous love and fears they depict.
Mohr comments, "Music takes me out of my body, immerses me in another world the way a film does. I begin and end in very different emotional states, doors open where there were no doors before– that is what I experienced making this record. If this inner movement is contagious, spreads to those who listen, then this was a record worth creating."
Today, the album's first single "Driven" arrives as well as pre-orders for Waiting Room [here].
Listen / share "Driven" on YouTube

During this period of isolation in the tiny fishing village of Stöðvarfjörður, Mohr was all too aware of a feeling of waiting, attuned to all the worm-like emotions and memories that crawl out of the ground when there is nothing and no one to distract. She spent most time in the factory, which had sat derelict for a decade, and was in the process of being repurposed into a space for artists, with many parts left untouched since the last days of fish production and other rooms made new with heat and light. This state of incompleteness, of loss of meaning, and repurposing became a mirror of her inner world, her abandoned ideas of home, love, affection, and meaning dissolved by traumatic memories of violence. Waiting Room is a processing of nearly untouchable emotions– of rebuilding the foundation for which elusive words like affection, passion and home can have a meaning weatherproof to and detangled from the direct, physical and emotional violence that permeates our experiences on earth.
The lyrics, drawn from her dream-like surroundings and non-linear memories depict the disturbing and intricate world of her mind as it grapples with the violence and horror of human nature while in a far away, otherworldly, landscape where sheep outnumber people. Mohr turns the dull discomfort of waiting for nothing into a resource, a spring of creativity and pushes her world outside of herself– Mohr made the album to let go of it.

(November 12, 2024) - Vienna-based, multidisciplinary artist Sofie Royer shares "Babydoll,” the final offering from her forthcoming album Young-Girl Forever, arriving this Friday. Performed in both French and English, “Babydoll” is a playful electro-pop ballad about “the desire to fit in and needing to perform in society,” inspired by Erving Geoffman’s book Presentation of Self in Everyday Life. It comes with an 80s style lyric video directed by Sofie and Grégoire Léon-Dufour.
Young-Girl Forever oscillates between optimism and doom, and paints a bold portrait of the contradictions of being a female artist today. The LP’s title is borrowed from the French anarchist zine Preliminary Materials for the Theory of a Young-Girl which dissects the figure of the “Young-Girl” – a symbol of consumerism under modernity. Preliminary Materials… came to Royer at exactly the right moment: she had already been writing lyrics about performativity and the transience of time, so the trope of the Young-Girl became the album’s throughline. Other singles from Young-Girl Forever, “Indoor Sport”, “Young-Girl (Illusion)” and “I Forget (I’m So Young)” home in on the figure Young-Girl, celebrating her while rebuking the culture that created her.
Royer is a multifaceted artist who believes in “total art” or using every medium for self expression. After picking up the violin at age three, she became a painter, model, DJ, and worked at Stones Throw and Boiler Room. In the period following her 2020 debut Cult Survivor and 2022 album Harlequin, Royer has opened for the likes of LCD Soundsystem, Lana Del Rey, and Air, and she brings the energy of her live shows to Young-Girl Forever.
Last night, Sofie performed at New York City’s Baby’s All Right ahead of her upcoming shows at Los Angeles’ El Cid and Mexico City’s Foro Indie Rocks later this week. Sofie will also perform in the UK and Europe before the end of the year. See full upcoming live dates below and purchase tickets HERE.

(12 November) Bristol-formed, London-based outfit Oslo Twins today announce their new EP 'Tresor', out 14th February 2025 on new label Half-Normal Records (co-founded by the band's Eric C. Davies).
Oslo Twins are also sharing the EP's second taste in the shape of new single "I See Mountains", arriving ahead of their London headline at The Waiting Room next Friday, 22nd November, and a newly announced headline tour for 2025, with dates in Bristol, Southampton, Birmingham, Newcastle, Manchester, Liverpool, Sheffield, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Produced by band members Eric C. Davies and Claudia Vulliamy in their East London studio, new EP 'Tresor' highlights a rejuvenated sonic depth for the London outfit, drawing influence from Nation Of Language, Angel Olsen, This Mortal Coil, Everything But The Girl, Lamb, Chromatics, Grace Ives and Ladytron.
With its intricate trip-hop beat and ethereal folk melody, new single "I See Mountains" is an enthralling new taste of the 5 track project. Taking cues from Massive Attack and Anna von Hausswolf, the genre-bending song utilises soft synth pads, catchy electro-drums, a rich, earthy violin part (played by guest El Hinton-Hallows) and keys player Ed Lyness’ haunting grand piano.
The song sets a scene of ascension: "When the flood is over, baby, I won’t look behind me / Just above the estuary, that’s where you will find me". With its mesmerising marching tempo blended with sharply syncopated instrumentation, vocalist Claudia detailed the origins of the lyrical inspiration for the track:
"I wanted to create an image of the sublime, a kind of journey upwards into the sky. The phrase 'I see mountains' was originally my attempt to describe a strong emotional response to certain music, the images that were coming up in my head."
Exploring new territories both in their live and recorded sound, bringing electronic drums and clean synths to the forefront, Oslo Twins' music is venturing into cleaner, more expansive electronic territory.
Oslo Twins' new EP 'Tresor' is out Feb 2025 on Half-Normal Records. Oslo Twins headline The Waiting Room in London on 22nd November. New single "I See Mountains" is out now.

In addition to recording the project at the cabin, Hazlett along with Room7, a Swedish videographer from Alingsås, filmed a pair of stunning live performance videos for “Blame The Moon” and “Bones Shake.” The owners described the home as "The house of the future – a climate-smart, self-sufficient eco-home, completely off-grid with integrated solar panels for heating and electricity. The Mediterranean garden allows you to grow your own fruits and flowers, and the house is designed for ultimate sustainability and environmental friendliness. Situated on a scenic rock with lake views, it’s close to Vänern's beautiful sandy beach, a marina, and walking trails."

About Hazlett:
Based in Sweden since 2019, Hazlett has been able to amass a solid fanbase throughout the years, currently with over 3 million monthly listeners on Spotify. The musical path hasn’t always been linear for the Australian folk dynamo however, from being a bass player in a band in Germany to completely quitting music while making the move back to Australia. Needing to pay the bills while starting a new life interning at an advertising agency, Hazlett started to perform in local pubs. This is where his old music publisher found out about his singing abilities and introduced him to now longtime collaborator Freddy Alexander, a turning point that reignited his passion for music and set him on the path to success.
2023 was a busy year for Hazlett, as he released his debut album Bloom Mountain to positive support from the likes of The Line of Best Fit and Atwood Magazine, having previously received acclaim from CLASH, NME and more. Going on to support Wild Rivers and Josiah & The Bonnevilles across the UK and Europe, he ended the year by releasing the first part of Goodbye to the Valley Low. 2024 proved to be a monumental one for the artist – with new music out and having opened shows for LANY, Calum Scott, Passenger, Ocie Elliott, John Vincent III as well as his very first North American headline tour. With his latest project, Goodbye to the Valley Low, Hazlett continues to push the boundaries of his artistry and deliver a truly unforgettable musical experience.
