THIEVERY CORPORATION share new track 'Let The Chalice Blaze' + London Roundhouse show & Europe dates!

THIEVERY CORPORATION Share new track 'Let The Chalice Blaze' https://soundcloud.com/thieverycorporation/let-the-chalice-blaze Taken from new album 'THE TEMPLE OF I & I' out 10th February 2017+ London Roundhouse show and Europe dates"The innovation, spirit and power of Jamaican music is a constant source of creative manna for us," explains Eric Hilton of DC-based electronic band THIEVERY CORPORATION about their new album THE TEMPLE OF I & I (release date: 10th February, 2017 via ESL Music). "On the musical map, Jamaica is an entire continent. Frankly, we could have spent a year there, soaking up the vibes in the air and the strength and resilience resonating from the people. And for us, the only way to connect with this rich source of inspiration was to work in that environment - to feel the pulse of the place."Infused with the culture and rhythm of Jamaica, The Temple of I & I is an extension of the dub ethos and aesthetic that they’ve harbored since their debut EP Sounds from Thievery Hi-Fi, except this time, they dove headfirst into the rich and warm musical environs of Port Antonio, Jamaica and surrounded themselves with the island’s magic. Kicking off in February 2015, Hilton, Rob Garza and their DC-based live rhythm section settled into the deep part of Jamaica – Port Antonio – and began recording in Geejam Studios. "People couldn't believe Robbie Myers, our guitarist, wasn't Jamaican," laughs Hilton. “I think they're used to people coming down from London or LA to record rock and pop records, and they were thrilled that we had such a handle on their sound. It felt like the respect was mutual. It was beyond gratifying. High Grade ganja and bottles of Appleton rum started to show up on the reg.”Rife with inspired sounds of the island, The Temple of I & I kicks off with “Thief Rockers”, easing the listener into a reverb-heavy tropical sway that introduces Kingston-newcomer, vocalist Racquel Jones. “I met her on my first trip to Port Antonio and she played some demos at Geejam. She had actually used Thievery Corporation as her demo backing track, and it was a perfect match when I heard it. We've been waiting years to find a conscious, brilliant, female Jamaican singer and MC. As a model and former Miss Jamaica contestant, you'd never expect the pure lyrical fire and tough delivery could come out of her. It'simpressive," explains Hilton.Thievery Corporation have released two tracks as a taster to the forthcoming album - “Let The Chalice Blaze” and “Letter to the Editor”."The Temple of I & I is a place of worship that exists only in our imagination; a place where all people are chosen people and the unity of living things is possible,” explains Hilton about the album’s title. “So much of the world is divided into tribes and belief systems that have imprisoned people's consciousness and allowed a few to control the many. Culture can be a blessing and a curse. Humanity transcends tribe and culture. This has been a constant theme in Thievery Corporation's message since day one"Thievery Corporation is Eric Hilton and Rob Garza. The Temple of I & I will be released on 10thFebruary, 2017 via ESL Records.

KEXP Celebrates the Life of David Bowie

KEXP Celebrates the Life of David Bowie

Seattle – January 5, 2017   It was a year ago this week that KEXP both celebrated the birth and then shockingly, mourned the death of David Bowie at the age of 69.  With the help of both those who knew him best and the man himself, KEXP will dig deep into his influential catalog of music spanning nearly 50-years.
[image error]Beginning Sunday, January 8th, on what would have been David Bowie's 70th birthday, and culminating Tuesday, January 10th on the one year anniversary of his passing, KEXP DJs John Richards, Cheryl Waters, Stevie Zoom, Larry Rose and Evie Cooke will share the songs of Bowie, and we'll hear from those who knew him best, including producers and friends Brian Eno, Tony Visconti and Nile Rodgers, as well as, Robert Smith of the Cure, Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor and even the former Thin White Duke himself. Clips from these interviews will be featured on the KEXP Blog, alongside videos, news, and a list of Bowie-related events around Seattle.
"Last year we celebrated 12 hours of Bowie on his birthday and the release of Blackstar. Little did we know he was near death. Days later when we woke up to the terrible news, we turned around and did 12 more hours of nothing but Bowie," said KEXP Morning Show host John Richards. "There may not be another artist who has influenced and informed every aspect of the KEXP mission more than David Bowie. His music has not only influenced nearly every broadcast day that we've been on the air, but clearly his art has propelled so many of the artists we love. Thank you David Bowie. We miss you every day."

AUSTIN'S PSYCH OUTFIT TY RICHARDS SHARES "GOING OUT FOR A CIGARETTE"

AUSTIN, TX'S ONE-MAN-PSYCH-BAND TY RICHARDS
RELEASES "GOING OUT FOR A CIGARETTE"
Download and Share the Single Here Via Bandcamp / Austin Town Hall'Zillion' Available February 3, 2017Record Release Show February 3, 2017 at Austin, TX's Swan Dive Pre-Order The Record Here
"It's our sincere hope that this is the future of rock" -  Central Track Austin, TX's psychedelic dance-pop auteur Ty Richards, is pleased to share "Going Out for a Cigarette, the latest exploration from his upcoming debut full-length album,Zillion. Available February 3, 2017, Zillion brings a trippy blend of infectious grooves along with super-addictive hooks that keep the record spinning long after the music is over. Adding to the offering, Richards will also be performing on February 3, 2017 to celebrate the release at Austin, TX's Swan Dive with support from The Cuckoos, Whit and special guests.
Download and share "Going Out for a Cigarette" hereCentral Track ranked Richards' first single "Spaceman" number 2 in their "Top 100 Songs of 2016" this past December. Meanwhile Austin, TX's Johnny Goudie, host of How Did I Get Here? touts Richards as a "hurricane of artistry" after he landed Song of the Day on KUTX. Richards explains "'Going out for a Cigarette' is a funny song. Like a lot of the tracks on this new record, it has at least a subtle amount of humor, which I need at this point of my life. I'll preface this with the fact that most of these songs are open to interpretation and weren't originally intended to have a specific meaning per say. I wrote the lyrics using a 'mumble track' method where I translated my nonsense lyrics into these words. But It's kind of a freudian way of writing, so I end up with a ton of meaning after the fact, and it's usually something super personal and embarrassing. After the fact, the song just happened to turn into this story." He goes on to say "I hear it as a nice guy's national anthem. I like the role reversal of turning the nice guy into a badass and the bad boy into a flake loser. To me, it's about a dude who's caught in the "friend zone" with a girl and can't break through to become a love interest, meanwhile she's in an abusive relationship with the much more desirable bad boy. An age-old story that I feel probably plagues a lot of guys. Now that I'm talking about it, this guy was definitely me at one point. Damn. In any case, the guy is nice in every way but at the same time he would do anything to fight for and protect this girl who doesn't even love him. Maybe this song is my way of saying 'Ladies! Forget the bad boys, maybe the nice guys are the ones who will actually fight for you.' I also like the parts of the song that allude to the old cliche of the husband leaving the house to go 'out for cigarettes' and then never comes back again. This is a song for all the squares like me, I guess."
Ty Richards is causing a commotion in the States & Europe. Fans call him "Beck Zeppelin." As an emerging artist in an ocean of droning garage rock and auto-tuned hipster pop, Ty Richards sticks out like a sore thumb with his danceable grooves and super-nostalgic psychedelic hooks. In late 2015 his debut single "Shoulda Coulda Woulda" even sparked attention across the pond. In a recent interview, Paul Heath of Radio X in Europe referred to Richards as an "All-American musical genius." Like many of the greats, from Prince and Stevie Wonder all the way to Foo Fighters and Tame Impala, Ty Richards also writes, performs, records, produces and even mixes his records. Richards has spent the last year molding this highly anticipated album that is paving the way for a lifetime of records that will stand as true art that is here to stay. Album Release Show:02/03 Swan Dive, Austin, TX

A REVOLUTION OF THE MIND, ROCK’N’ROLL FOR BODY AND SOUL!

TIME TO STAND UP!!

HERE COME THE WOLVES —ARE YOU READY FOR THE REVOLUTION???

BOSS HOG returns from the wild with their most subversive record yet — this is the seductive soundtrack for the second coming of militant rock’n’roll, and the groove has never been stronger.

BROOD X  — emerging from the dirty streets of New York City after 17 years gestation  —  is a futuristic brew of 21st Century blues, toxic punk rock beat music, and hyper-focused, outer-space psycho assaults. Thermo-nuclear chanteuse CRISTINA MARTINEZblisters the hypocrites, the haters, the heartless, and the clueless hangers-on with a full-tilt microphone attack. A sex-bomb salvo for troubled times, Martinez give’s voice to America’s pain while pulling no punches.

BOSS HOG does not negotiate. This is scorched earth rock’n’roll for the resistance, barbed-wire blues battling for the future of the planet. Recorded & mixed at the fabled Key Club, using Sly Stone’s legendary There’s A Riot Going On console, BROOD X channels the subversive mojo of the underground and brings next-level sonics to save your very soul.

Mick Harvey Reveals "Contact" - Intoxicated Women Out January 20

MICK HARVEY

INTOXICATED WOMEN
SERGE GAINSBOURG TRANSLATIONS
VOLUME 4 - OUT JANUARY 20

LISTEN TO “CONTACT” HERE Photo credit: L.J.Spruyt / L.J.Spruyt Photography “Harvey is a cool, calm, plainspoken singer; his true voice has always come through his sense of arrangement, and his ability to render exquisite beauty and apocalyptic clamor with the same brushstroke.” – Pitchfork
Mick Harvey has unveiled a new track, taken from his fourth and final volume of Serge Gainsbourg translations,  Intoxicated Women , out via Mute on January 20, 2017.

Contact,” a Space Age pop song originally sung by Brigitte Bardot and released in 1968, features Channthy Kak of Cambodian Space Project and frequent collaborator Xanthe Waite (Terry) on vocals.

Listen to and share “Contact”  HERE .

Intoxicated Women  concentrates on the duets by Gainsbourg, mainly during the 60s, in a period where he was focusing his songwriting on women singers such as France Gall, Juliette Greco and most famously, Brigitte Bardot.

Here, Harvey has enlisted the talents of guest singers Channthy Kak (Cambodian Space Project), Australian singers Xanthe Waite (Terry, Primo), Sophia Brous, Lyndelle-Jayne Spruyt and Jess Ribeiro and the German chanteuse Andrea Schroeder plus a special appearance on “Baby Teeth, Wolfy Teeth” by Harvey’s son, Solomon.

Intoxicated Women  opens with a stunning version of “Je T’aime… (Moi non plus)” – here titled “Ich Liebe Dich… (Ich Dich Auch Nicht)” - rendered in the sexiest imaginable German by the divine Ms. Schroeder and culminates with “Cargo Cult,” the closing track from the classic Histoire de Melody Nelson album. In between we are treated to a smorgasbord of Gainsbourg gems in English (with a bit of Khmer thrown in).

Mick Harvey explains, “After the initial recordings for Delirium Tremens, JP Shilo and I continued investigating the duets and female songs, many of which were unknown to me. So it became a voyage of discovery into quite a lot of material I hadn’t heard before. There are even a couple of songs for which the only versions existing from the 60s are from TV performances Serge gave.” [“The Drowned One” (La Noyée) and “Baby Teeth, Wolfy Teeth” (Dents de Lait, Dents de Loup)]

Recent reissues of Vol. 1 and 2 rekindled Harvey’s interested in the Gainsbourg translations, and twenty years after the release of Vol. 1 - Intoxicated Man (originally released in 1996), work began on what would become Volumes 3 and 4. Recorded in late 2015 in Melbourne with J.P. Shilo and the rest of his Antipodean-based live band, 10 songs were tracked at Birdland Studios. The project then relocated to Berlin where a further nine songs were recorded with Toby Dammit (The Stooges, Residents) and Bertrand Burgalat (of French label Tricatel) who was the string arranger on the first two volumes.

The resultant recordings served to whet Harvey’s appetite for more and almost immediately work continued back in Melbourne in order to have enough material to fill two new volumes. Along with principle musical collaborator, Shilo (with whom Harvey also worked on Rowland S. Howard’s Pop Crimes) and Melbourne based musicians Glenn Lewis and Hugo Cran, Harvey enlisted the aforementioned female singers to help complete this final volume in the series.

Listen to a sampler for  Intoxicated Women   HERE .

Listen to “Baby Teeth, Wolfy Teeth,” a translation of Gainbourg’s 1967 duet, “Dents de Lait, Dents de Loup” – one of many songs Gainsbourg wrote for the French yé yé singer France Gall –  HERE  sung with Harvey’s son, Solomon.
