Sevdaliza shares striking new video + debut LP 'ISON' out this year

After dropping a response to the Muslim ban with her song "Bebin", which was praised by the New York Times and Pitchfork, Iranian-born Dutch artist Sevdaliza shares the new video for her track, "Amandine Insensible", and reveals the name of her self-released debut album, ISON, set to drop later this year. Directed by Piet Langeveld, the stunning video, which premiered on NPR, explores the concept of 'identity' as it features Sevdaliza assuming the varied yet limited roles assigned to women in our culture. In a brilliant twist, she is selling images from the video on Shuttershock to reimburse this campaign further playing into the eye-awakening concept. Check it and read more on the concept below.

https://youtu.be/_ReWd-Pg81w

Sevdaliza further explains:

"The story of Amandine explores the concept of 'identity' in a contemporary world that is rapidly changing due to the disappearance of 'boundaries'. Amandine is everything you want her to be. An extreme extraction of average life, representing a world where we have become so universal all feelings have disappeared. Paradoxically, this makes you feel uncomfortable. Her life takes place in an infinite white space, composed with minimal objects that represent different facets of the cycle of daily life. The accessibility of information and matter has created a new universal language, in which commercial brands play a key role. "

OUT 07.04 WATCH EP TRAILERhttps://vimeo.com/200346458 Canadian songwriter Calvin Love returns with a follow up tCanadian songwriter Calvin Love returns with a follow up to his acclaimed Arts & Crafts release with new EP ‘ECDYSIS’ You may not yet of heard of him but his myth is fast growing beyond his Alberta roots. Calvin is a self-proclaimed student of David Lynch and Jim Jarmusch soundtracks which clearly bleeds through his songs that explore the darkest corners of the human psyche while still maintaining a pop gloss.Suave and imposing he casts a long trench coated shadow as if he were Gambit or Rick Deckard. While his hometown contemporaries Mac Demarco and Sean Nicholas Savage sometimes seem unavoidable in the music press Calvin has become something of a best kept secret. Title ‘Ecdysis' is the process of shedding an old skin to facilitate growth. Calvin explains;

“During the demoing process, I pulled five songs from a batch that comprises my next LP and I decided to release them as an EP. I envision these songs like a bridge from my previous methods of working, to a path to something new and evolved"

It’s songs capture something of that mid 80s magic when a turning of the musical tides saw artists experimenting with synths and transitioning from their comfort zones of old equipment to a bold new world. There's a nostalgic air to the melodies and instrumentation which takes us back in time while still feeling utterly contemporary and essential. It comes at possibly the richest point in his songwriting career;

"This is my absolute best work. It was a very terrifying process but now it is done it was all worth it"

Fans of Sean Nicholas Savage, George Harrison, Split Enz and golden hour drives on the west coast in 1985 will be instantly charmed by this record. ECDYSIS will be released on limited cassette in the UK by Super Fan 99 and vinyl in the US via Modern Sky Entertainment. European live dates are being planned for this Summer.

"His omnivorous interests, which span from punk to soft rock, are ripening into something lush and satisfying" THE FADER

"He pulls a dark veil over his pristine pop compositions, capturing the feeling waking up after an all-night bender or eating in an empty diner at 4am" NOISEY

"A gently loping slice of psychedelia with spiderwebbed guitars and Love’s easy croon presiding over all" STEREOGUM

Mick Harvey Reveals New Video, Serge Gainsbourg Covers Vol 4 Out Now

dissolute, louche and subversive.” – Magnet

Mick Harvey has unveiled the video for his German translation of Gainsbourg’s most infamous song, “Je T'Aime… Moi Non Plus,” just in time for Valentine’s Day!

Watch “Ich Liebe Dich...Ich Dich Auch Nicht,” directed by Lucian Segura and edited by Lyndelle-Jayne Spruyt, HERE .

The track is taken from Harvey’s fourth and final volume of Serge Gainsbourg translations,  Intoxicated Women , out now on Mute. Here guest vocalist Andrea Schroeder delivers a smoldering duet with Mick Harvey, which according to MOJO Magazine, “ makes a case for German being the true language of love ”.

A series of European dates have been announced for spring, launching with a rare London performance atUnder The Bridge on March 25, before going on to Spain, Turkey and Greece (full details below).

Intoxicated Women  concentrates on the duets and songs written by Gainsbourg, mostly during the 60s in a period where he was focusing his songwriting on singers such as France Gall, Juliette Greco and most famously, Brigitte Bardot.

Here Harvey has enlisted the talents of guest singers Channthy Kak (Cambodian Space Project), Australian singers Xanthe Waite (Terry, Primo), Sophia Brous, Lyndelle-Jayne Spruyt, Jess Ribeiro and the German chanteuse Andrea Schroeder along with a special appearance on “Baby Teeth, Wolfy Teeth” by Harvey’s son, Solomon.

A recent reissue of the first two volumes (Intoxicated Man, originally released in 1996 and Pink Elephants,released in 1997) rekindled Harvey’s interest in the Gainsbourg translations and 20 years after the original release, work began on what would become Volumes 3 and 4. Recording in late 2015 in Melbourne with J.P. Shilo and the rest of his Antipodean-based live band, 10 songs were tracked at Birdland Studios. The project then relocated to Berlin where a further 9 songs were recorded with Toby Dammit (The Stooges, Residents) and Bertrand Burgalat (of French label Tricatel) who was the string arranger on the first 2 volumes.

The resulting recordings served to whet Harvey’s appetite for more and almost immediately work continued back in Melbourne in order to have enough material to fill 2 new volumes. Along with principle musical collaborator, Shilo (with whom Harvey also worked on Rowland S. Howard’s ‘Pop Crimes’) and Melbourne based musicians Glenn Lewis and Hugo Cran, Harvey enlisted the aforementioned female singers to help complete this final volume in the series.

EUROPEAN LIVE DATES
25 March, London – Under The Bridge
28 March, Madrid – Moby Dick
29 March, Barcelona - La (2) de Apolo
30 March, Istanbul - Dorock XL
31 March, Athens - Gagarin

The Regrettes Confirm Spring 2017 Tour

THE REGRETTES CONFIRM SPRING 2017 TOUR DEBUT ALBUM FEEL YOUR FEELINGS FOOL! OUT NOWTO CRITICAL ACCLAIM FROM VOGUENPRCONSEQUENCE OF SOUND,NOISEY, & MORE WATCH: NEW LIVE VIDEO FOR "SEASHORE"
February 14, 2017 (Burbank, CA) - LA-based punk act The Regrettes have announced a headlining tour for Spring 2017. The 17-date tour kicks off March 9 in Stockton, CA and includes stops in Chicago, New York, Boston, DC, and Toronto, as well as Austin for SXSW. A full list of dates is below, with tickets for all shows available for purchase this Friday, February 17 at 12pm EST on TheRegrettes.com. Alongside the tour announcement, the band has shared an all-new live video for their song,  "Seashore," filmed at the band's recent album release show. Frontwoman Lydia Night says: "The live video caught a moment of the show where I dedicated the song to Trump. I wanted everyone in the audience to know that it's important to be who you are and stand up for what's right, even during this divisive political climate. Lyrically Seashore is an expression of that."
Watch/Share "Seashore" Live Video:https://youtu.be/L-F1yrBrxAI With the release of their 15-track debut album  Feel Your Feelings Fool! , The Regrettes have established themselves as a leading breakout band, earning buzz from  Stereogum , BUST NYLON, Brooklyn Vegan  and more for what  LA Weekly  praises as, "the sound of young, socially aware people sharing their frustration and elation with heavy energy and a no-fucks-given attitude." The band has toured with such leading acts as Sleigh Bells, Kate Nash, Peaches, Cherry Glazerr and The Frights. The Regrettes is composed of Lydia Night (vocals & guitar), Genessa Gariano (guitar), Sage Chavis (bass) and Maxx Morando (drums), who have dominated the Los Angeles punk rock scene since forming in 2015. Night leads the group with a bashful, blunt attitude reminiscent of Debbie Harry and Joan Jett, drawing listeners in to the band's infectious - and unapologetically honest - punk-driven pop songs .

Further Praise for The Regrettes   "The Regrettes deliver it all with a retro-infused enthusiasm. Nary a putdown or a kiss-off is delivered without a winning melody or soaring harmonies." - LA Times   "Their music sounds like a lively blend of lo-fi surf rock meets The Strokes with a strong female lead-a combination sought by many but well executed by few." Vogue   "the track's real barbs can be found in its lyrics and Night's confrontational, DGAF delivery, as she takes on all detractors and critics who've dismissed her over the years simply because of her age and womanhood" Consequence of Sound   "LA quartet the Regrettes make an infectious brand of punk with '50s and '60s pop leanings, and they beam with a youthful exuberance and raw vulnerability that result in deceptively provocative songs." - Stereogum   "While The Regrettes are still fairly new, it's clear that Night and her crew are a swiftly developing force to be reckoned with." Noisey  "The Regrettes kick serious ass in every single respect." Clash
