Wire kick off extensive celebrations for their 40th year as a band in typical forward-thinking prolific form, with a new album. The band's upcoming release, Silver/Lead is due March 31 via the band's pinkflag label. The album is streaming in full at Noisey ahead of Friday's release date. About the album Noisey says, "Silver/Lead, out March 31 is another timely record from a band with an unwavering eye for the present. The angst is still there, but it follows a line drawn by their last three records: 2013's Change Becomes Us, 2015's Wire, and 2016's Nocturnal Koreans. The paranoia doesn't come through frantic ticks; instead it bubbles up in a distorted subterfuge, underpinning Newman's occasionally disturbing deadpan vocal delivery. It's deceptive, too, built around pop hooks, drawing the listener in for long enough to confound them. Here we are, Newman sings on 'Short Elevated Period,' 'in a pivotal moment, in an uncertain future.' It would have made sense 40 years ago, too; but it catches on right now."
Silver/Lead is the 15th studio album from musical pioneers Wire. It arrives on the 40th anniversary of their debut performance. Yet it’s about as far from nostalgia as you could get. This is the sound of a uniquely addictive 21st century psychedelic post-punkOn April 1, 2017, the anniversary of the band’s first gig as the “classic 4 piece” at the Roxy Club. London, WIRE will be giving a headline performance at the Los Angeles edition of the band’s boutique city festival DRILL : LA, a unique festival to mark “40 years of not looking back.” Wire have announced the addition of Mikal Cronin with a string & horn ensemble and Wand to the upcoming DRILL : LA festival taking place March 30 - April 2 at The Echo and Echoplex. The idea being to bring together the best overview of both classic left field artists and new and emerging cutting edge talent. There will be several more DRILL : FESTIVALS taking place this spring, each featuring unique line ups. Details of the festivals will be announced shortly. Updated info can be found at www.drillfestival.comOn Silver/Lead, Colin Newman and Matt Simms’ guitar work is alternately jagged and luminous, while bassist Graham Lewis’s ear-catching lyrics are vivid yet oblique. Meanwhile, drummer Robert Grey provides a virtual masterclass in percussive minimalism. But it’s how the various instruments mesh together that really counts. And Newman’s production creates a sonic space in which even the smallest gesture is accorded some recognition.Highlights include the optimistic dazzle of “Diamonds In Cups,” with its almost T. Rex-style buzz and chug, and the moody swing of “This Time.” Elsewhere on the musical spectrum, there’s the menacing widescreen grandeur of "Playing Harp For The Fishes" and breakneck-paced guitar pop of "Short Elevated Period."Wire are one of the world’s most ground-breaking bands, their influence acknowledged by bands as diverse as Blur, Sonic Youth, R.E.M. and Savages. But they have never been interested in exploiting past glories. For Wire, there is only ever one possible direction: forwards. So it’s perhaps not surprising that over recent years, they’ve played strings of sold-out shows, achieved career-best record sales, and been cited as a strong influence by yet another generation of bands.Wire’s last three albums garnered nothing but rave reviews. From 2013’s strangely beautifulChange Becomes Us (“It’s fantastic.” – Pitchfork) to the crackling motorik of 2015’s Wire (“It’s all really well turned, potent and crisp.” – The Guardian), and last year’s punchy mini-album Nocturnal Koreans (“It's a cracker and sounds defiantly modern.” – The Quietus). Consequently, although it may be being released on the band’s 40th anniversary, Silver/Lead is an album which has nothing to do with the past and everything to do with the future. "I Still Care"
Ahead of Debut EP
[+show Announce with BOSCO, Rome Fortune, Oyinda and Banoffee in May 2017]
WATCH HEREExperimental LA-based artist vōx announces her new music video for the single "I Still Care" - directed by Natalie Nell - alongside the official announce of her two part church showcase project. You can watch the video HERE.
"This song for me is about being ok with still being human. It's ok to give a fuck. It's everyone's fantasy to become untouchable, but it feels good to admit I still have feelings. This video is an homage to that empowerment. The power of vulnerability," says vōx
The video sees guest appearances from Rome Fortune and comes in place of the audio single from her forthcoming EP I Was Born - all in time for her curated LA showcase with BOSCO and Banoffee on May 6th, with a NYC show to follow on May 25th with Rome Fortune and Oyinda. See ticket info HERE.

Miranda Lee Richards: To Release New Album 'Existential Beast' June 16 via Invisible Hands Music; First Single "Lucid I Would Dream" Premieres
MIRANDA LEE RICHARDSTO RELEASE NEW ALBUM'EXISTENTIAL BEAST'DUE OUT JUNE 16 VIA INVISIBLE HANDS MUSIC
FIRST SINGLE"LUCID I WOULD DREAM"PREMIERES ONLINE VIA YAHOO TODAY(HERE)

MIRANDA LEE RICHARDS will return June 16 with her new album EXISTENTIAL BEAST on Invisible Hands Music. This beautifully constructed new release is characteristic of the effortless, 70's-influenced, country-tinged psychedelia evident throughout the Los Angeles native's previous work. EXISTENTIAL BEAST was recorded in Los Angeles with producer.Rick Parker, best known for his work with BRMC and features first single "Lucid I Would Dream,"chosen by BBC 6's Lauren Laverne as a "headphone moment."
MIRANDA describes "Lucid I Would Dream" as "a conversation with the subconscious and a study in dream interpretation. I have recurring dreams about being able to breathe underwater, and this apparently, is about being able to master complex emotional realms." Listen to "Lucid I Would Dream" today on YAHOO (here). In May, MIRANDA will perform two Los Angeles shows: May 4 at Alchemical Castle-Hollywood and her album release show on May 31 at the Bootleg Theater ( here ). Expect more U.S. and U.K. dates to be announced soon.
EXISTENTIAL BEAST is a political album, examining the issues of our time, but with the intent of tackling these tough and often taboo subjects in a poetic and heartfelt manner. The title is also a mash-up of terms, referencing the existential crisis that has in turn arisen. MIRANDA says of EXISTENTIAL BEAST, "In essence, we are all still working within those animal urges of fear, competition, survival and sexuality which are deep-seeded and manifesting in varying ways and degrees for different individuals, depending on where they are at. But like it or not, these tendencies have been revealed, within our leaders, our countries and ourselves; it is indeed a pivotal and transformational time and there is much work to be done."
Born in San Francisco after the summer of love and before the dawn of disco, MIRANDA LEE RICHARDS grew up in an artistic and bohemian environment that has informed her adult life and work. After graduating from San Francisco School Of The Arts, she began to pursue a musical career. She met Kirk Hammett from Metallica who taught her to play Mazzy Star songs on guitar. Her early demos reached Anton Newcombe and she joined his band, the Brian Jonestown Massacre. MIRANDA then signed to Virgin Records and released her debut album The Herethereafter, a mix of folk, psychedelia, country and indie pop, and found fans worldwide.
The critically acclaimed follow-up album Light Of X--the title of which comes from a dream about harnessing beams of light to travel in time--followed in 2009 via Nettwerk Records. In 2016, MIRANDA unveiled Echoes Of The Dreamtime on Invisible Hands Music, which received rave reviews across in the U.K. and U.S., as well as national airplay with MOJO giving the album 4 stars and hailing the first single, "The sublime 'First Light Of Winter' is the moment it all comes together, Richards transcending her influences and, no longer constrained, arriving at psychedelia's higher plane" (1/2016). EXISTENTIAL BEAST is yet another confident and inspiring piece of work from MIRANDA, sure to excite her ever growing fan base. Known for her enchanting live performances, look for MIRANDA LEE RICHARDS to perform the new album in venues across the U.S. and U.K. later this year.

What people are saying about Low’s Ones and Sixes:
"It's one thing for Low to have made a rewarding career of spare, dramatic, glacially paced music...It's another to make those ingredients sound so incredibly dynamic; to spend 20-plus years making a dozen albums that eachfeel distinct, and that each introduce new ideas, twists and ways to wring drama out of the space between notes…Throughout Ones and Sixes, the Minnesota trio somehow gives weight to airiness as comfort and discord orbit each other like a binary star. But every time the portent threatens to become overbearing — just as the mix of prettiness and heaviness tips a little too far out of alignment — Low punctures it with a burst of cleansing aggression or some pristine, exquisite surprise. Anything to keep us off balance.” [“First Listen”] - NPR Music
"One of the most impressive albums of their career" [4/5] – MOJO
"Beautiful desolation....coolly exhilarating" [4/5] - Q
“It’s anothersubtly heart-rending effort from a band that remains one of the very finest in the world. If you needed a reminder of why Low are an institution then this is it.” [8/10] - Drowned In Sound
“The band's strengths are here in abundance, but they are reimagined, twisted into new shapes and given a visceral intensity that is utterly irresistible.” [9/10] - CLASH
“...Striking a balance between their majestic, slow-moving melancholy and harsher experimental noise.” [4/5] - The Guardian

Burger Records Unveils Stream of Lovely Bad Things EP Ahead of Release

Burger Records is set to release a new EP from Lovely Bad Things on March 31st, but you can get an early listen to the Homebodied EP now (see Flood Magazine debut)....
Listen/Post "Homebodied" EP
The legend of Lovely Bad Things began in an eerily boring town called La Mirada which is nestled between Los Angeles and Orange County, a fitting place for a band to find solace in music. Brothers Camron (guitar, vocals) and Brayden Ward (drums, vocals) met Lauren Curtius (guitar, vocals), Tim Hatch (guitar) and Wesley Baxter (bass) during their formative years, and joined forces to create a perfect blend of the most infectiously resonant aspects of their alternative and punk predecessors.
Lovely Bad Things offer a wild and humorous stage presence while effortlessly shredding the musical prowess they've spent the past 8 years cultivating. At one of their shows you're likely to be struck by Lauren's distinctly beautiful and powerful voice, Brayden's vehemently dynamic drumming, the solid and smooth bass of Wesley, and the mind melting trio of guitars shoved forever in your head by Tim, Camron and Lauren. They've played countless house shows and local venues, embarked on several cross-country solo tours, as well as with Best Coast and Diarrhea Planet, and have performed festivals including FYF, SXSW and Primavera Sound.
The music obsessed Lovely Bad Things' sound falls within the realm of Pavement, Dinosaur Jr., Weezer and the like. Lovely Bad Things meticulously craft and distribute their music with a respectable DIY ethos. All album artwork and merch are made from scratch by Brayden, and each member of the band contributes in songwriting and multi-instrumentation. Their hard work puts a giant emphasis on the Grown Ups end, while their hilarious and charmingly chaotic energy screams Teenage. Whether you're in your own young confusion searching for music to make you feel like you're not alone, a music snob who has a pessimistic outlook on anything post 90's, or simply a lover of music, Lovely Bad Things should be in heavy rotation.

NYC: CATCH VIOLET SANDS LIVE AT MERCURY LOUNGE THIS FRIDAY 3/31 W/ FRENCH HORN REBELLION

The music of up-and-coming Brooklyn-based trio Violet Sands is an ethereal soundtrack for a rite of passage, as evidenced by the new single “ Drive ” which premiered exclusively via BlackBook and is now available to share/buy.
The band also announces plans to release its debut LP in June 2017 featuring “Drive” as the lead single. Violet Sands is also set to play Mercury Lounge this Friday 3/31 with French Horn Rebellion.
“Drive” follows the group’s’ most recent single “Hello, I’m Free” (currently featured in Spotify’s “Discover Weekly” Launch Campaign) and the 2016 debut Strange Attractor EP ft. breakout single “No Matter What” (95K views, Vimeo Staff Pick).Harnessing the alluring vocals of Deidre Muro (Deidre & the Dark, formerly of Savoir Adore), the inventive production of David Perlick-Molinari (French Horn Rebellion) and the atmospheric guitar-scapes of Derek Muro (Love Like Deloreans, Mighty Five), Violet Sands craft genre-bending music, fusing early influences such as The Cure, Peter Gabriel, Fleetwood Mac, and Cocteau Twins with 90s R&B, shoegaze and electronic genres, creating a fresh and dreamy mix of nostalgia with the present.
Speaking of “Drive”, Violet Sands frontwoman Deidre says: "This song was started while Derek was still living in California, and it kept a lot of it's warm, desert highway vibe as it traveled to Brooklyn. It's about someone who is resolved to move on - even in the face of self-sabotage and getting stuck in the past, she armors herself in a number of ways to get through it. There's always been some magic in the catharsis of a long car ride..."
Violet Sands’ forthcoming album will be the first full-length release on YouTooCanWoo - a brand new label arm of the members’ long time studio and community in Brooklyn . The trio are part of a crew that works on diverse sound and audio projects, including composing original film and video game scores and producing and mixing artists like MGMT and The Knocks.

The Family Crest Announce EP & National Tour
THE FAMILY CREST ANNOUNCE NEW EP VIA NPR
Prelude To War out April 28th
NEW SONG MIRROR LOVE NOW AVAILABLE Official Video Now Streaming
HEADLINING TOUR KICKS OFF IN LOS ANGELES ON APRIL 28th 5-Week Tour Visits NYC, Chicago, Denver, Austin
The Family Crest is thrilled to announce their new EP “Prelude To War” with the release of first single “Mirror Love” via NPR’s All Songs TV.
Watch the mind-altering video for “Mirror Love” – a song with a '70s soul vibe where the group’s familiar rhythmic and melodic sections are punctuated to support the band’s acclaimed lyricism and storytelling – here.
NPR’s Bob Boilen says Mirror Love “extends into new sonic territory for the group, capturing the late '70s sounds of the Bee Gees in both beat and chorus … [a] stunning kaleidoscopic imagery and bold sound” adding “this band is a must-see live!”
Beginning on April 28th in Los Angeles, the San Francisco based band will kick off a 5-week national headlining tour in support of “Prelude To War,” the first installment of a broader upcoming project, “The War.”
“Prelude To War” – set for an April 28th release - is the follow up to the band’s LP “Beneath The Brine” which had critics at Paste Magazine, Spin and NPR raving “there's a decent chance you're about to discover your favorite new band.” For nearly two years, The Family Crest toured in support of “Beneath The Brine,” touring with Jukebox The Ghost, performing at Outside Lands and seeing their songs featured in campaigns for GoPro, Carnival Cruises and Coachella.
“Mirror Love was written as a therapeutic response to the apathy I was observing around me at the time of its conception,” says songwriter Liam McCormick. “We all look at ourselves in a 'rose-colored' mirror of self-examination, and with the overwhelming amount of content we come across every second of every day, when we are afforded moments of self-reflection, it's easy to forget to look beyond yourself.”
“We explore the things we want to do, who we want to be, and how we want to change the world, but often that desire doesn't translate to action, and often it's very one-dimensional. I'm the first to admit there's something really romantic and positive about projecting a wish for change, but the follow-through is what counts, and just clicking a 'like' button doesn't mean anything. So when the ‘Mirror Love’ lyrics say, ‘Who we want to be, who we're going to be,’ the idea is that just changing one word changes the dynamic and intention of the direction you're heading and if we don’t make positive and necessary changes in this world, our children’s children will look back upon us as selfish fools.”
“Since the song was written, people in America and across the world have engaged in massive, passionate, beautiful displays of concern for humanity. I hope in listening to this song, anyone that has the desire to participate in social change, but hasn’t taken the initiative to do so, will feel empowered to take that step.”
