Tashaki Miyaki shares new track "Out Of My Head" via Noisey, debut album The Dream out April 7

Tashaki Miyaki shares new track about escaping depression via Noisey, debut album The Dream out April 7 STREAM: "Out Of My Head"
SoundCloud / Noisey
The Los Angeles-based duo Tashaki Miyaki will release their highly anticipated debut album The Dream on April 7 via Metropolis Records (pre-order here). This week the band wrapped up their residency at the Echoplex in LA and today shares the album's third single " Out Of My Head " via Noisey. Here's what the band's Paige Stark said about the track:"It's a song about wanting to shut off my mind. I suffer from various anxieties and depression that can become exhausting. As John Milton says in Paradise Lost,  'The mind is its own place and in itself, can make a Heaven of Hell, a Hell of Heaven.' Musically I wanted it to feel the opposite, soothing and expansive...like a daydream."
The band would also like to invite you to a special listening party / record release event in LA - see full details on the flyer below. The Los Angeles-based band Tashaki Miyaki have kept it mysterious since their inception. In their early days, the band's members often performed under aliases and even the roots of their moniker remain hazy (though it may or may not have first come from a mispronunciation of Japanese director Takashi Miike's name). The band was born out of a late night jam session in early 2011, when local legend Joel Jerome recorded what would become the band's first original song, "Somethin' is Better Than Nothin" and a cover of the Everly Brothers' classic, "All I have to do is Dream." Within a few weeks of posting the songs to Bandcamp, the band was invited to London where they played their first ever live show to a packed crowd at the legendary 100 Club.

In the six years since, Tashaki Miyaki have released three singles and an EP on UK labels Luv Luv Luv, For Us Records (Rough Trade Imprint), and The Sounds of Sweet Nothing; as well as a single on their own label, Blonde Dog. Influential local label Burger Records also put out a collection of the band's early recordings. These releases received international acclaim in the NME, MOJO, The New York Times, and Pitchfork, among other outlets. The Guardian UK deemed the group a "female Jesus and Mary Chain, whose vocals cut like honey-coated razor blades." Others have compared the band to Mazzy StarSpiritualized, and  The Velvet Underground , but Tashaki Miyaki considers film to be their closest muse. Band members cite David Lynch and his composer  Angelo Badalamenti , as well as Sergio Leone's partnership with  Ennio Morricone  to be as powerful an influence as music like Lou ReedNeil YoungDavid Bowie and My Bloody Valentine. Tashaki Miyaki's songs are designed with visual inspiration: seeing the band perform live is a multimedia experience, where their haunting music is paired with ever-changing, curated cinematic backdrops, creating a full sensory experience. Their dream-like aesthetic has been mirrored in stark and alluring music videos created by talented filmmaker and friend, Juan Iglesias. Tashaki Miyaki have toured and played festivals across North America, Europe and the UK. The band has also performed at art museums around the world, including The Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona and MoMA, New York.

Tashaki Miyaki has spent the past couple years writing and recording their debut LP,  The Dream ,produced by Singer/Songwriter/Multi-Instrumentalist Paige Stark and engineered by Dan Horne (Cass McCombs, Allah Las). As a writer for The Fader once observed of the band’s hypnotic sound, “It's so pretty I’m afraid saying anything else might diminish it".

" ...she's crafted one of the most moving pieces of music likely to be released this year."  NPR

“If Kurt Cobain and PJ Harvey had a daughter she might write fuzzy quaalude-rock
tunes like this duo’s charismatic Annie Hardy” - SPIN

“The austerely funereal, organ-pumped ode “Batman” (named after the superhero onesie Silvio was wearing the day he died) echoes the fragile, childlike yearning of Daniel Johnston” - LA Weekly

“After my son died, it all had to come back out. … Writing these songs saved me.” - Annie Hardy

“It’s Mazzy Star for perverts, basically.” - Rolling Stone, Rob Sheffield

Annie Hardy began her illustrious career as lead singer, songwriter and guitarist ofGiant Drag over a decade ago and she has returned to the public eye with her critically acclaimed debut solo debut, Rules, set for release on April 7. Fans can hear the art-punk masterpiece a week early, streaming with  NPR First Listen today. We encourage you to post and share!

Rules features contributions from Don Bolles (The Germs)Stephen McBean (Pink Mountaintops, Black Mountain)Petra Haden (That Dog)DJ Bonebrake (X) and Joe Cardamone (The Icarus Line). Crafted during a period of time during which she lost both her baby to SIDS at 17 days old as well as the baby’s father, her boyfriend Robert Paulson, the record is simultaneously beautiful and tragic. The honesty of the record envelops listeners inviting them to engage with the extreme tragedy in an almost voyeuristic capacity.

Produced by Joe Cardamone of LA post-hardcore band The Icarus Line, on RulesAnnie trades in the grunge-pop grooves of Giant Drag for experimental art-punk, exposing her fragility in a way she never has before. Often compared to bands such as My Bloody Valentine and PJ Harvey, Giant Drag played Coachella and the Reading and Leeds festivals as well as touring with Scissor Sisters, Pretty Girls Make Graves, The Jesus and Mary Chain and many more. After surviving two years of incredible personal loss, Annie Hardy returns to release a powerful poignant solo debut. Stay tuned for more opportunities to catch her live coming soon.

Reptilians share video for "Olive Boy" New single "Prequel" b/w "Olive" Out 3/31 via Captured Tracks

REPTALIENS RELEASING FIRST SINGLE FOR CAPTURED TRACKS
"PREQUEL" B/W "OLIVE BOY" OUT TOMORROW, MARCH 31
VIDEO FOR "OLIVE BOY" PREMIERES ATUNDER THE RADAR

As previously announcedPortland, Oregon's dream pop purveyors Reptaliens have signed to Captured Tracks. Tomorrow, March 31, the band release their first single for the label "Prequel," b/w "Olive Boy."  Today the video for "Olive Boy" premiered at   Under The Radar who noted, "A lovely ennui flows naturally from Portland, Oregon's Reptaliens and their melancholic pop has the kiss of a quiet breeze."  The band told the magazine that the video, directed by their drummer Tyler Vergian, is "about the life and making of a serial killer. It takes you through the Olive Boy's childhood, his adult life, and into a frenzy of his uncontrollable urge to kill. It was inspired by the beautiful olive groves of SoCal. After our last tour we came home and went straight into Julian's basement to write the song instead of celebrating our return. Doug Russel plays the olive boy and was cast as soon as the video concept was created. We all laughed about how he was the first and obvious choice for the part because he looks like a serial killer, but he's actually one of the sweetest and kindest humans we know- and he conveniently had a super creepy trap door on his back deck."
Watch the video for "Olive Boy" here and streaming links for both tracks below.

"'Prequel' is a beautifully off-kilter wisp of dream pop bliss, with fizzing melodies and Bambi Browning's gorgeously affecting vocals." Line Of The Best Fit
"An...innocence presents itself amid the lo-fi instrumentation and angelically comforting vocals from Bambi, allowing their songs to easily sway from flirty bedroom pop songs to surrealistic dream daze productions." Deli Magazine
Reptaliens is the husband and wife team of Bambi and Cole Browning. The couple met on a basketball court while filming a music video for a mutual friend's band that didn't exist. After dating for six months, the two married under a blanket of smoke from the season's forest fires.
Named in reverence for their interests in cult mentality, transhumanism, and conspiracy theories, Reptaliens quickly evolved from a bedroom-recording project to a full-fledged band that explores fringe pop culture through analog synthesizers, electric guitars, melodic bass lines, and Bambi's lulling vocals. Inspired by science fiction writers like Philip K. Dick and FM-2030 and music ranging from Paul McCartney and Wings to African artists Francis Bebey and Nahawa Doumbia, the band creates lo-fi chameleonic dreamscapes that fall sonically and visiually somewhere between abstract expressionism and surrealism.
As long time, active participants in the Portland music scene, Bambi and Cole call on a number of talented musicians for Reptaliens' recordings and live performances, including Julian Kowalski (guitar), Bryson Hansen (synth), and Tyler Vergian (drums).  The band enraptures audiences with their sincere and theatrical performances.

Lift To Experience formed in Denton, Texas, at the end of the last millennium by Josh T. Pearson, Andy Reginald Young and Josh 'Bear' Browning. Their rise was fast and their reign was short. In this short time, however, Lift To Experience achieved high critical acclaim and were so beloved by John Peel that he invited them to record three Peel sessions in just five months, and the band were included in the Best 125 Peel Sessions of all time. The full-tracklisting:

INVSN Unleashes Video for "Immer Zu" via Stereogum

INVSN

“IMMER ZU”

WATCH NOW via STEREOGUM

THE BEAUTIFUL STORIES  OUT JUNE 9 VIA DINE ALONE RECORDS

“…a rhythmically charged rock track with verses that swagger and sway and a chorus that tips over into punk-rock intensity.”
--  Stereogum

“There’s darkness in INVSN that is seemingly spawned by the barren Scandinavian landscapes of their rural base.”
– Clash Music
“… the bursts of noise and bits of electronica provided by the band give INVSN a punchy edge that keeps us from becoming too comfortable.”
 Pop Matters
“…a mean & thunderous storm of sound that keeps things neat while making no apologies & pulling no punches.”
-- Impose
“INVSN once again shows why they’re the vanguard of Swedish post-punk. It pulses of repressed anger and frustration and is a targeted punch in the face of our mendacious society.”
 Woah Dad!

WATCH "IMMER ZU" HERE

INVSN releases the video for “Immer Zu,” a track featuring Sara Almgren and Christina Karlsson on lead vocals and acting as a sonic totem for the band’s forthcoming LP,  The Beautiful Stories .

The video, shot in black and white film, is the perfect accompaniment to the song’s angsty theme and pounding rhythm. Frontman Dennis Lyxzén is no stranger to incorporating political themes like feminism into his work, from his days fronting Refused to (international) Noise Conspiracy to INVSN.

Lyxzén has frequently been quoted speaking out about feminism. “We try to do whatever we can and we try to talk about it every night and make people aware of the problem with the patriarchal system,” he stated. "Music for us has always been rooted in the idea of resistance. [It] always worked as a soundtrack to a different kind of life,” Lyxzén spoke of the band.

Explains frontwoman Sara Almgren"Since we had written a song about what power and especially patriarchal power means to women, we wanted the video to represent that idea. We asked two friends who never done videos before to come up with an idea and a representation of strong women. We wanted the whole process, from idea to finished video, to be an empowering process with only women involved! The guys had to stay at home, and we made a video with women, for women, by women, about what it means to be a woman in this world."

“Immer Zu” serves as the opening track for the band’s sophomore album  The Beautiful Stories,  set to be released June 9th via Dine Alone Records.

About INVSN:
Few other bands than INVSN have better conducted the heritage of the now legendary 90’s hardcore scene in Umeå.

Its members have come together from a wide variety of influential Swedish bands. Sara Almgren hails from Masshysteri, Christina Karlsson from Tiger Forest Cat, Anders Stenberg alongside playing with Lykke Li is also a member of Deportees, André Sandström was in DS-13 and Dennis Lyzxén started out in the seminal punk outfit Refused before playing in The (International) Noise Conspiracy with longtime collaborator Almgren.

INVSN has always had a political message, but few other songwriters have the ability to add additional dimensions of existential struggle and soul-searching like Dennis Lyxzén. In our time, when many moral and deeply humanistic values are being challenged by right-wing movements all over the world, INVSN is a necessary outcry from a counter-culture that has far from given up. Their music might be rich in anger, but the belief that a change could be carried out is never far away. Recorded by Adam "Atom" Greenspan (Nick Cave, The Veils) at Svenska Grammofonstudion in Gothenburg, the album, which buzzes with eclecticism, wherein catchy indie rock with pop sensibilities exists alongside industrial electronics. This is post-punk underpinned by repressed anger and frustration serving as a punch in the face of a mendacious society.

Of The Beautiful Stories, Dennis Lyxzén says,

"Music is in many ways a young person's game. That first debut-record. The youthful exuberance and violence. But there are other things that might matter as much. Experience and hard work. Putting in the miles.
The collective effort of this band is beyond anything I've witnessed before.

I can't even begin to fathom the hours we spent record music, playing live and just living this life. Somehow it feels like it lead to this; this glorious piece of music that I have to say is one of the most exciting and experimental and genuine works of art I ever been a part of.

The process of writing and creating is often harder than we would like to admit and it doesn't really get easier with age. But when the end result comes out as thrilling as this all those hours spent rehearsing and playing, all those hours on the road and all those records that came before, are totally worth it!"
