SAN FRANCISCO, CA (October 24, 2017) – Noise Pop Festival, the Bay Area’s premiere indie music and arts festival, is excited to announce phase one of the music lineup for the 26th annual festival. Early Bird and Super Fan badges go on sale today, Tuesday, October 24 at 10 a.m. PT, although fans are encouraged to act fast as supply is limited and pricing will increase in tiers. Individual tickets to these recently announced shows will also go on sale at 10 a.m. PT this Friday, October 27. Both badges and tickets can be purchased at www.noisepopfest.com.
Noise Pop Festival is an annual celebration of independent culture in the Bay Area, which over the course of a week, from Monday, February 19 to Sunday, February 25, transforms the Bay Area into festival grounds with multiple events taking place across the city each night. This year badges will go further than ever before as access to the film screening events, which had required a separate badge or tickets previously, will be included with the overall Noise Pop badge, allowing attendees to pack in even more into their festival experience.
The first round of music artists confirmed to perform at the festival includes the female-led, live drum-looping indie-pop project, Tune-Yards, fronted by former Sunglass Theater puppeteer-turned-vocalist Merrill Garbus; New Jersey’s Real Estate, who will be performing in support of their recent album, In Mind; San Francisco’s own Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, who in September released the first single off of their highly anticipated upcoming album, Wrong Creatures, a return to the band’s original style of buzzing guitars and faded vocals; Texas-by-way-of-New York’s Parquet Courts, who also played to a sold-out crowd at Noise Pop 2016; and indie-pop inspired San Fermin, led by classically trained and appropriately named composer Ellis Ludwig-Leone, which just released their third album, Belong, to critical praise, and who will perform alongside another beloved Bay Area acts in The Magik*Magik Orchestra for a very rare collaborative performance.
Also joining the music with a strong dose of 90s indie rock revival is Superchunk, who helped shape the East Coast homegrown music scene of their native North Carolina; in addition to renowned acts like quirky California natives WHY?, who will perform in support of their critically acclaimed 2017 album, Moh Lhean, at Noise Pop 2018; Ben UFO, an accomplished DJ known for his work in cofounding the heralded electronic record label, Hessle Audio; experimental rocker Mount Eerie, who looks to perform in support of his eighth studio album, A Crow Looked At Me, that was released this past March; Geographer, the critically acclaimed indie rock project from San Francisco native Mike Deni; Bully, who managed to avoid the stereotypical ‘slump of the sophomore album’ with Losing, which was just released this month to acclaim from fans and critics alike; and Los Angeles-based Girlpool, who for the first time incorporated a drummer on their newest album, Powerplant, which was released in May to glowing reviews. Rounding out the first wave of announced music performances is Melbourne-born songwriter and electronic producer Carla Dal Forno, marking her first ever performance in the United States; among more than 40 total music acts.
Although the full music lineup will be announced in several phases between now and February, the list of initial music acts confirmed to perform at the 2018 festival can be found below.

Today, she focuses on art and illustration while continuing to create work in the field of animation and design. Noise Pop is thrilled to add her to the impressive list of notable artists who have partnered to create art for the fest, including Shepard Fairey and Thomas Campbell, among others.
Last year at the 25th annual event, Noise Pop Festival saw its highest attendance yet in the festival’s history with nearly 90% of the acts playing to sold-out crowds and all festival badges selling out in advance. In total, over 28,000 people attended the 2017 festival, which marked a more than 30% increase in attendance from the year prior in 2016, which again was a hallmark year for the annual festival. The 2017 festival played host to 180+ music artists across more than 17 Bay Area venues, with additional events including concerts, film screenings, art shows and more.
The lineup for the 25th anniversary last year again carried on the festival’s musical expansion by including genres of all types including hip-hop, indie rock, electronic, metal, and more. Among the artists with stellar sold-out performances were Ty Segall, Grandaddy, Vince Staples, Dawes, Julien Baker, BadBadNotGood, Deafheaven, Tash Sultana, PWR BTTM, Rogue Wave (presented Cover Me: A Night of 80s Classics), and Creeper Lagoon (who performed together on stage for the first time since 2001). Additional favorite highlights of the festival included sets by Japanese Breakfast, Diet Cig, Hazel English, Middle Kids, Hanni El Khatib, and many more. The 2017 festival also welcomed the return of the Noise Pop After Hours at Café du Nord presented by Jameson Music, where the celebration continued multiple nights of the festival with surprise sets from several beloved Bay Area acts, including Thao (of Thao & The Get Down Stay Down), Jay Som, and Con Brio, playing to a packed venue.
Stay tuned as additional music acts, as well as the film, art and event lineup will be announced in the months ahead.

Lee Ranaldo Releases New Video For "Uncle Skeleton"; North American Tour Begins Tonight
LEE RANALDO
RELEASES NEW VIDEO FOR
“UNCLE SKELETON”
NORTH AMERICAN TOUR BEGINS TONIGHT
NEW ALBUM ELECTRIC TRIM OUT NOW
Photo: Anna Bogaciova
"[Ranaldo's] finest post-Sonic Youth solo effort...a sumptuous, shape-shifting headphone record that proves there’s still plenty of gas left in the tank." – PITCHFORK
“ …some of the darkest, trippiest songs of Lee’s career…Lee’s is letting us see a very strong side of him that was never fully explored in his iconic band." – BROOKLYN VEGAN
"A true punk poet and guitar scientist....Virtually everything here, in its own edgy manner, points to light, hope and the endless possibility of the human spirit." – EXCLAIM
Just in time for Halloween, Lee Ranaldo has released the brand new video for “Uncle Skeleton,” a track taken from his latest album, Electric Trim, which is out now on Mute. Watch the video here.
Ranaldo explains, “The tune for ‘Uncle Skeleton’ put me in mind of those dusty old cowboy ballads that ‘60s bands often psychedelicized. In particular I had Papa John Phillips’s ‘Me and My Uncle’ in my head, a track that was covered by the Grateful Dead and others. An early video of Joni Mitchell (then still Joni Anderson) performing the song on some old Canadian TV show stuck with me and informed the tune as I worked on it. The verses were mostly written with Jonathan Lethem, my collaborator throughout the Electric Trim album. At first his sheet of lyrics didn’t make any sense to me, but they seem to drop into the tune like they were designed exactly for it. Only later did I learn that his lyrics about stripping the flesh off the bones came directly out of the pages of his most recent book, A Gambler’s Anatomy. The video was created by Elisa Ambrogio, visionary singer/guitarist of the band Magik Markers.”
This week, Lee Ranaldo begins his tour across North America with dates into November before embarking on a European tour starting on February 16 in Barcelona – full details below.
The feature length documentary, HELLO HELLO HELLO : LEE RANALDO : ELECTRIC TRIM tracks the making of the album by filmmakers Fred Riedel and Jerry Fried. The documentary is currently touring select film festivals in Europe and the US. Screenings include the New York premiere at the NYC Doc festival on November 12 and the UK premiere at Doc’n Roll Festival in London on November 14 (full details below).
Watch the trailer for HELLO HELLO HELLO here.
Electric Trim was recorded in New York City and Barcelona in collaboration with producer Raül “Refree” Fernandez and extends the work of Ranaldo's solo canon, the most recent being his 2013 album, Last Night On Earth.
Through his collaboration with Fernandez, Ranaldo moves into some rich new sonic territories and production techniques, experimenting with electronic beats and samples alongside live players.
Ranaldo is a co-founder of Sonic Youth, a visual artist, producer and writer. In addition to Fernandez, he worked with several special guests on Electric Trim, including Sharon Van Etten who sings on six of the tracks and duets on “Last Looks” and Kid Millions (aka Man Forever) as well as longtime friend and collaborator Nels Cline (Wilco). In addition, the album features Ranaldo’s band The Dust (fellow Sonic Youth member Steve Shelley, guitarist Alan Licht, and bassist Tim Luntzel).
Ranaldo collaborated with award winning New York author Jonathan Lethem (Motherless Brooklyn / The Fortress of Solitude) for lyrics on six of the songs, including “Thrown Over The Wall." American artist, Richard Prince, who previously painted the sleeve for Sonic Youth’s 2004 album Sonic Nurse, created the artwork for the album.

Sleigh Bells Share New Single "Rainmaker"
SLEIGH BELLS ANNOUNCE NEW SINGLE “RAINMAKER” - LISTEN HERE
Kid Kruschev Mini-LP OutNovember 10, 2017

Sleigh Bells - the Brooklyn, NY duo comprised of vocalist Alexis Krauss and producer/guitarist Derek Miller - have today shared new track “Rainmaker,” the second single from their forthcoming mini-LP Kid Kruschev due out November 10th, 2017 on the band’s own Torn Clean label. Following on the heels of the dark, meditative “And Saints”, “Rainmaker" marks a return to the band's block-party influences, mixing a subtly eq'd sampling of the classic The Soul Searchers “Ashley's Roachclip” breakbeat (made famous in Eric B & Rakim's "Paid In Full”), with layers of gritty head-rush instrumental immersion, careening guitars, pep rally stomps and Krauss's urgent, crystalline vocals to glorious effect.
Says Miller about the song: “Some of you might recognize the main synth/chord progression of ‘Rainmaker’ from the trailer we made for Reign of Terror back in 2011. I've always loved those chords...only took me six years to find the right spot for them. I've also been dying to sample the Soul Searchers ‘Ashley's Roachclip’ break, which is up there with Funky Drummer in my humble opinion (Miss you, Clyde). I think the two speak to each other, puts me in a good place. And of course I really, really love Alexis's vocal which sounds desperate in the best way."
Sleigh Bells will also be embarking on a massive North American tour this winter. Dates are below; Sunflower Bean support on multiple dates.
Following the tremendous response to the band’s last critically acclaimed album, Jessica Rabbit, Miller and Krauss found themselves more inspired than ever before. Krauss’s move out of Brooklyn to upstate New York gave the band a new place from which to work; the political climate gave them new topics to tackle, embracing both the personal and world-scale anxiety of the moment.

"[I]t's the result of a supernaturally talented obsessive trying to perfect music while redefining their relationship to album-oriented rock... Nearly every proper song on Currents is a revelatory statement of Parker's range and increasing expertise as a producer, arranger, songwriter, and vocalist while maintaining the essence of Tame Impala: Parker is just as irreverent working in soul and R&B as he is with psych-rock." -Pitchfork (Best New Music) "[Parker] advocates for constant reinvention... That commitment to evolution helps make Tame Impala an unlikely but worthy candidate for major stardom."- NPR "[A] near-perfect album... [Parker's] been called a visionary for years, but this is the ultimate proof he can see for miles and miles." - Paste "Currents just might be the best thing Parker's released yet... Parker's music is in perpetual bloom." - Stereogum "[A]n ethereal, insinuating vibe that feels like dropping in on an all-night rave." - Grantland "From the crisp, hip-hop accenting on the drums to the full-bodied bass and vivid synths, 'Currents' is an audiophile's wet dream." - NME "'Currents' is a tour de force for [Parker] and his gizmos." - New York Times "[O]n Currents Parker showcases a knack for shaping intelligent pop songs." - Billboard
