LISTEN TO "DOG MILK"
Today, Palm has released "Dog Milk," the latest from its anticipated upcoming album, Rock Island. NPR , who premiered the song on the All Songs Considered blog, is saying "listening to the band often feels like watching a nail-biter of a championship game whose rules are known only by these four players; you're not quite sure what kind of resolution you're rooting for, but the process is mesmerizing." Rock Island is available pre-order now and due out 2/9 via Carpark Records.
Earlier this month, Palm announced Rock Island with the album's opening track, "Pearly," which The FADER called it "melodically complex art-rock with an abundance of digital and organic textures," while Pitchfork said it "revels in chaos" and is "distinctly surreal."
Additionally, Palm has announced a 2018 headlining tour with support from The Spirit of the Beehive, including an album release show at Brooklyn's Market Hotel and a stop at SXSW. The band will also support Deerhoof on select dates in January. Tickets for all shows will be on sale on Friday 12/1 on the band's website. All dates below.
LISTEN TO PREVIOUS SINGLE,"PEARLY"
On Rock Island, their second LP, Palm produces evidence of a distinct musical language, developed over time, in isolation, and out of necessity. On the island, melodies are struck on what might be shells or spines. Rhythms are scratched out, swept over, scratched again. Individual instruments, and sometimes entire sections, skip and stutter. There is the sense of a music box with wonky tension or a warped transmission in which all the noise is taken for signal.
Like other groups so acclaimed for their compulsive live show, Palm has been burdened by the constant comparison between their recorded material and their touring set. On Rock Island, they render this tired discussion moot, using the album form to present that which could never be completely live, reserving for performance that which could never be completely reproduced.
Despite appearing behind the instruments typical of rock music, Palm trades in sounds of their own making. On these songs, one of the guitars and the drum kit are used as MIDI triggers, producing an index that can be combed through later and replaced with new information. The percussion is sometimes augmented so as to suggest a multiplication of limbs. The strings are manipulated to choke, crack, and hum like other instruments, or other bodies, might.
Working again with engineer Matt Labozza, the band spent the better part of a month in a rented farmhouse in Upstate New York. With the benefits of time and space, Palm recorded the various elements piecemeal, only rarely playing together in groups larger than two or three. While some members tracked, others holed up in the next room, experimenting with quantization, beat replacement, and other methods borrowed from electronic music. Even accounting for the many labors that brought them to be, these materials seem produced by an organic logic. Their complex friction forms a habit of thought, scores a network of grooves on the floor of the mind.
This is music with dimensionality. Sonic objects are deployed, developed, and dissected in various states of mutation. The listener flits about between the field and the lab. The tone is warm in a way only the sun could make, the pace as forceful and as variable as a gale. Whether one locates Rock Island in a sea or in a refinished attic (as in Greg Burak's album cover), whether one escapes to there or is banished, its psychic environs are charted clearly enough. Only at this remove from the mainland can we sense the conditions necessary for such a strange species of sound.

Psych Pop Duo Moon Honey Release "Betta Fish."

HEADLINING LOS ANGELES’ TERAGRAM BALLROOM ON DECEMBER 14

“BETTA FISH”
iTunes | Apple Music | Spotify | Soundcloud
12/14 – The Teragram Ballroom – Los Angeles, CA – TICKETS
Formed in the Big Easy, psych-pop, art duo Moon Honey have returned with another delightful gem, “Betta Fish.” The track is out today on Apple Music and Spotify and is their first release since the critically acclaimed 2013 debut “ Hand-Painted Dream Photographs” , which quietly sent shockwaves throughout the underground, bubbling up with praise courtesy of The New York Times, Noisey, NPRand more.
The duo includes lead vocalist, visual artist and lyricist, Jess Joy, and guitarist and composer, Andrew Martin, and together they’ve created an out-of-this-world concoction of magic that transports you to another peculiar and exciting realm of sound and vision.
A wild red-headed musical enchantress and multi-faceted artist from the bayou of Baton Rouge, Jess’ je ne sais quoi extends beyond her primal vocal conjuring’s to handmade mysticism—from personally directing D.I.Y. stop-motion music videos and assembling surreal collages to building paper maché stage production and sewing period-correct costume pieces. Born in the Big Easy and raised on the Cayman Islands as an anachronistic disciple of Jimi Hendrix and Mark Bolan, Andrew speaks through six-strings often while decked out in mod velvet threads. The union of these two dissonantly kindred spirits yields a totemic pastiche of psychedelia, rock, soul, performance art and good old-fashioned voodoo.
Currently nestled in the Silverlake Hills of Los Angeles, Moon Honey’s Jess and Andrew immersed themselves in the city’s arts scene whilst writing and recording the new music. Working with producerJohn Goodmanson [Blonde Redhead, Sleater-Kinney, Death Cab for Cutie], the band bottle their world into simultaneously complex and singable songs - like Betta Fish - and plan on inviting us further into their multi-colored, psychedelic universe, as they reveal more music, art and visuals created by the talented duo in 2018.
“We really believe in the human hand,” Jess goes on. “Andrew is so specific with his tones and the vintage tubes he chooses. The way he plays is very emotional. We don’t lean into electronic or digital music. We feel strongly about preserving the organic qualities that come from the hand and those imperfections. That ties into the artwork being handmade. I want everything to be tactile and have irregularities.”
“Musically, the guitar creates the sounds,” Andrew elaborates. “There are so many ways to break, bend, and warp that instrument. I believe in it so much.”
That belief carries over into the music and can be heard in their latest dynamic sonic offering, “Betta Fish,” which is out today.
Moon Honey will be headlining at The Teragram Ballroom on December, 14th. For more information and tickets, go to www.moonhoneyband.com

Dita Von Teese Announces Debut LP,
Out February 2018

Releases Song “Rendez-vous” via Rolling Stone

Music Written & Composed by Sébastien Tellier
Iconic burlesque dancer Dita Von Teese has released her song “Rendez-vous” via Rolling Stone today. The track appears on her forthcoming self-titled debut album out February 2018via the Parisian label Record Makers. A collaboration with composer Sébastien Tellier, the album evokes a modern day Brigitte Bardot and Serge Gainsbourg allure. Listen and share “Rendez-vous” here.
“I’m not a professional singer, in fact, I’m quite uneasy about recording my voice. But I do enjoy the thrill of doing things that are outside of my comfort zone, so in the past, I’ve collaborated with artists I admire that have invited me, such as Monarchy and Die Antwoord,” recalls Von Teese. “But nothing compares to this project with Sébastien Tellier. Having been a fan of his music for a long time, I would go to see him play live in California and, when I performed for the first time at the Crazy Horse in Paris, I invited him because I was such a fan, not daring to imagine that someday he would compose an entire album for me. When we began recording, he offered to let me to write some lyrics, but I preferred the feeling of letting go, of making a Sébastien Tellier record. I had a fantasy about having a modern Brigitte Bardot and Serge Gainsbourg moment. To describe the album is difficult; perhaps it’s me with less make-up. At times, there’s a certain vulnerability which stands in contrast to my stage image of a confident and glamorous woman. I would never dare say such things in real life, and if I ever really felt like making such declarations of love, I would likely restrain myself right away."
Born Heather Sweet in West Branch, Michigan, Dita Von Teese grew up fascinated by the Golden Age of Cinema, pin-up imagery, and vintage lingerie. This naturally blond, mid-western girl transformed herself into a glamour girl like those she admired. Performing striptease since 1992, she is the biggest name in burlesque in the world since Gypsy Rose Lee and is credited with bringing the art form back into the spotlight with a new sense of elegance and sophistication. Dita's full-length revues, “Burlesque: Strip, Strip, Hooray!” and “The Art of the Teese” are the biggest touring burlesque shows in history and regularly play to sold-out crowds around the world.

On Friday, November 24 the band also released their latest full-length album “The Best Of” viaRepublic Records in North America. A collection of their best moments to date, the album covers two CDs (in its deluxe form) and features tracks from the band’s seven studio albums, highlighting their incredible musical output over the last eighteen years. From the release of their “Newborn” EP in 1999, the collection stretches all the way to 2017, with the bonus track of the band’s version of The Beatles “Golden Slumbers,” as heard on the current John Lewis Christmas commercial directed by Michel Gondry [WATCH HERE].
“Best Of’s are a good way of introducing new fans to a big back catalogue.” Explains front man and lyricist Guy Garvey on the band’s reasoning behind this release. “My first Leonard Cohen album was ‘The Best Of’, same with Fleetwood Mac and Nick Drake. It took ages for us to decide what should go on ours but we got there in the end. We are really proud of this. It’s full of memories.”
“The Best Of” comes in two versions. The standard version features global hits “One Day Like This” and “Grounds For Divorce,” alongside their current US single “Magnificent (She Says),” taken from the band’s current studio album and UK Number One, “Little Fictions.” Earlier work is represented by live favorites “Mirrorball,” “Scattered Black and Whites,” “Leaders Of The Free World” and “Lippy Kids,”“a gorgeous meditation on adolescence” (The Guardian) and a stand out moment in all elbow live shows.
The second version is the deluxe release, which goes further into the band’s history and album releases, again spanning their entire career to date. The song that first brought the band to mass public attention, “Newborn,” is included along with its follow up and fellow NME Single Of The Week, “Any Day Now” and “The Loneliness of a Tower Crane Driver’” the song the band performed live on the night that they won the 2008 Mercury Music Prize for “The Seldom Seen Kid.” This version also contains the band’s most recent original recording, “Kindling (Fickle Flame)” featuring John Grant.
The album highlights an incredible ongoing career which has encompassed two Ivor Novello awards, the quadruple platinum album “The Seldom Seen Kid” and two UK Number One albums; 2014’s “The Take Off and Landing of Everything” and this year’s “Little Fictions.” In that time, the band have won 2008’s Mercury Music Prize (for “The Seldom Seen Kid”), the 2009 BRITS ‘Best British Group’ and a host of NME, Q and Mojo Awards.
elbow have been lauded for one of the landmark Pyramid Stage performances at Glastonbury Festival, collaborated with the BBC Concert Orchestra and Manchester’s Hallé Orchestra. In 2012 they were commissioned to write ‘First Steps’ which sound-tracked the BBC'S London Olympics TV coverage with the band also performing at the closing ceremony in the Olympic Stadium to a global television audience of 750 million people. This year’s secret appearance at Glastonbury’s Park Stage drew a record crowd on site and was the most watched set from the festival on BBC.
Always a band that has attracted deserved critical praise for their recordings, (elbow were the first act in history to receive four consecutive 9/10 album reviews from NME), this best of album is the perfect introduction to the amazing musical legacy to date of one of the country’s most beloved and most successful acts, demonstrating that most rare thing in modern music; a band whose story and influence continues to grow with every release.
