Link Wray's “Son Of Rumble,” A Never Before Heard Track From The Archives, To Be Released On 7” Vinyl On April 13th Via Easy Eye Sound

LINK WRAY'S “SON OF RUMBLE,” A NEVER BEFORE HEARD TRACK FROM THE ARCHIVES, TO BE RELEASED ON 7” VINYL ON APRIL 13TH VIA EASY EYE SOUND

MUSIC VIDEO FOR “SON OF RUMBLE,” DEBUTED ON GUITAR WORLD“Link Wray was a huge influence on all modern rock guitar players.  If they say he didn’t influence (them), they’re lying!” - Wayne Kramer, MC5

“Rumble had the power to help me say ‘fuck it,’ I’m going to be a musician.” – Iggy PopIn 2018, it will have been 60 years since legendary guitarist Link Wray released his influential instrumental song “Rumble,” and changed the face and sound of rock and roll forever. Today, Dan Auerbach’s label, Easy Eye Sound is proud to announce that it will release “Son of Rumble,” Link’s intended, but never released follow-up to the song that introduced the world to power chords and intentional distortion. Said Auerbach about Wray’s importance: “I saw him play in Cleveland at the Grog shop and he blew my mind. To get the chance to put out unreleased songs on Easy Eye is amazing and a dream I never thought was possible. It’s time we give Link Wray a statue on the top of the rock and roll of fame.” “Son of Rumble” is a never released track from the Link Wray archives, and you can listen to it here. The song, along with b-side “Whole Lotta Talking,” another never heard track, will be released as a 7” vinyl on April 13th, and can be pre-ordered here.

This morning, Guitar World debuted the music video for Link Wray’s “Son of Rumble,” calling the song “the long-awaited sequel to the only guitar instrumental—ever—to be banned.” Watch the video here.

Link Wray’s “Rumble” became a flash point for countless musicians including Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Pete Townshend, Iggy Pop, Steven Van Zandt, Jeff Beck and Elvis Costello. The song was banned in New York, Boston, and Detroit, for fear it would incite juvenile violence, making Wray the only artist in history to have a banned instrumental. 33 years after becoming eligible, this unsung hero of rock and roll is currently a Rock Hall nominee for the Class of 2018, and fans can vote for his inclusion with a daily ballot through December 5 here.

Link Wray is one of the featured artists in the Sundance award winning “RUMBLE: The Indians Who Rocked the World”, a documentary about the profound, essential, and indelible impact Indigenous people have had on American music. The film includes interviews with Dan Auerbach, Iggy Pop, George Clinton, Slash, Steven Tyler, and other notable musicians, and you can learn more, and watch the film’s trailer here.

The story of Link Wray sounds like something straight out of a Hollywood movie. In 1937, a boy from the Shawnee Indian tribe was taught guitar by an African American traveling carny named Hambone in the segregated south.  In 1953, that boy became a Western Swing musician who played the wake of Hank Williams.  By 1956, he was a Korean War Veteran who lost a lung to TB and was told he’d never sing again. Yet, Link Wray spent the next half-century as the only one-lung singer in rock and roll, and laid the foundation for what the genre would become. The impact of Link Wray, placed in the top 50 of Rolling Stone’s Top 100 Guitarists of All Time, can be heard in generations of American and British metal, punk, garage, grunge, thrash, and psychobilly rockers, all of whom have claimed him and “Rumble” (and follow-ups “Raw-Hide,” “Jack The Ripper,” “Ace of Spades” and many more) as their own.

The Family Crest Release New Music and Announce Album

THE FAMILY CREST ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM THE WAR: ACT I PASTE MAGAZINE PREMIERES FIRST SINGLE IT KEEPS US DANCING NOW ON NATIONAL TOUR WITH THE DEAR HUNTER THE WAR: ACT I OUT FEBRUARY 23RDThe Family Crest have already earned widespread national applause for their extraordinary orchestral pop ambition but with THE WAR, the San Francisco-based collective makes their boldest, most fully articulated musical statement thus far.
The second installment of what promises to be an epic musical saga, THE WAR: ACT I – coming out on February 23rd - represents “the next version of The Family Crest,” says frontman-founder Liam McCormick and indeed, the album reveals a band more in tune with its own large-scale Baroque eclecticism.
Paste Magazine caught up with Liam and has the first listen of new song“It Keeps Us Dancing” which they call "arrestingly tranquil," adding "McCormick serenades us over a sparse bed of acoustic guitars and keys. His entrancing vocals then lead listeners into a majestic ocean of strings, horns and percussion, building and building with intensity as the song progresses …ending with a grand symphonic melody.” Read the story here.
This announcement coincides with the band’s tour with The Dear Hunter that kicked off yesterday in Portland, OR. Tour dates below.
“It Keeps Us Dancing,” along with the other new songs, wed a remarkable span of sonic influences – from '70s groove to synthpop, Afro-Cuban soul to California jazz, glam rock, and anything else that might suit the greater goal – to create a cohesive, utterly original sound and vision all its own.
Preceded in early 2017 by the PRELUDE TO WAR EP, the new album marks the first act of a greater multi-tiered project, a kind of serial concept album with a pronounced thematic arc that weaves ideas of pride and memory, dissonance and divergence, into a purposefully ambiguous but undeniably unified whole.
“THE WAR is ultimately about conflict,” says Liam. “The battles we go through every day, the trauma we reference from various situations in our lives that inform the decisions we make. It’s about the complexity of human nature, how we’re all equally capable of doing wonderful things and terrible things. It’s about the control that those battles have over us as we move through our lives.”
Liam and The Family Crest are not unaware of the striking irony of THE WAR, finding it rather fitting that diverse Americans from across the country have come together to create a work with themes of civil discord at its very core. Having worked on its songs for nearly seven years, Liam finally completed much of THE WAR’s first three chapters during the 2016 election and the months that followed. Unsurprisingly, those epochal events “seeped into the consciousness of this record.” Further inspiration came from daily runs through San Francisco’s historic Presidio district, studying about the civil war and considering his own experiences as a half-Irish, half-Chinese “growing up in a largely white community as one of the only people of color in my sphere.”
“We did not expect to be releasing THE WAR: ACT I at a time where its themes were so relevant,” Liam says. “The bottom line is we are all informed on a very unconscious level by the things around us. So if you wrote lyrics in the last two years, there’s no way that at least part of those lyrics aren’t informed by what’s happened.”
THE WAR is the most defiantly radical music the band has made thus far. While acknowledging its narrative links, Liam is still loath to be too explicit regarding THE WAR: ACT I’s interconnected themes and how those themes relate to future works. Rather, he prefers listeners perceive the tale on their own or perhaps not at all, another affirmation of the collaborative relationship between The Family Crest and its growing audience.
“There is a story,” Liam says. “But knowing it is going to affect the way you listen to the record. I want people to have the option to create their own experience. That’s your own version of THE WAR.”

White Reaper Share "The World's Best American Band" Live Video, On Tour Now!

WHITE REAPER RELEASE LIVE VIDEO PERFORMANCE OF "THE WORLD'S BEST AMERICAN BAND"
ON TOUR NOW WITH SPOONPLAYING BROOKLYN STEEL TONIGHT!

THE WORLD'S BEST AMERICAN BAND OUT NOW ON POLYVINYL RECORDS Louisville's White Reaper have been touring their hearts out in support of their acclaimed album The World's Best American Band, and today, they've shared a look into the live show people can't stop talking about with a rapturous performance of the album's title track at Metro in Chicago. Watch the video HERE.
White Reaper performed at Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits and are currently on the road with Spoon this Winter. NPR caught them recently and said, "White Reaper's latest single is called 'The World's Best American Band,' which might seem a little hyperbolic until you've seen it live." The Chicago Tribuneproclaimed, "White Reaper know how to weld together power-pop's past, punk might, and whiplash-smart songwriting, and they do so with precision." The Austin Chronicle also remarked on their ACL performance and stated "They may have rocked harder than both weekends combined."
Paste Magazine just included The World's Best American Band in their 50 Best Albums of 2017 list, writing, "It is not a live album, and this sounds like a large audience packed into an amphitheater, the sort of venue White Reaper might be headlining in a more excellent world."

Jane's Addiction To Headline Rhonda's Kiss Benefit Concert, Friday, Dec. 8 At the Palladium in Hollywood

RHONDA’S KISS--HELPING CANCER PATIENTS IN NEED-- JANE’S ADDICTION TO HEADLINE THIRD ANNUAL L.A. BENEFIT CONCERTFRIDAY, DECEMBER 8AT THE PALLADIUM IN HOLLYWOOD(here) OPENING PERFORMANCE FROMTHE HELLCAT SAINTS:Jerry Cantrell (Alice In Chains), Josh Freese (NIN, DEVO), Billy Duffy (The Cult), Dave Kushner (Velvet Revolver), Franky Perez (Apocalyptica) and Scott Shriner (Weezer) L.A. CONCERT EVENT WILL BENEFIT CEDARS-SINAI SAMUEL OSCHIN COMPREHENSIVE CANCER INSTITUTE
JANE’S ADDICTION.

RHONDA’s KISS, an organization that helps cancer patients in need, has announced that JANE’S ADDICTION will headline the third annual benefit concert on Friday, December 8 at the Palladium in Hollywood. The L.A. based collective The Hellcat Saints--Jerry Cantrell (Alice In Chains), Josh Freese(DEVO, NIN), Billy Duffy (The Cult), Dave Kushner (Velvet Revolver), Franky Perez (Apocalyptica), Scott Shriner (Weezer), and many more--will open the show. Proceeds from the concert event will benefit the Cedars-Sinai Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute and further the mission of RHONDA’S KISS, supporting programs to assist cancer patients, and helping those who receive a cancer diagnosis make ends meet during treatment. Tickets for the one-night-only concert are available now here: https://rhondaskiss.org/site/events. Perry Farrell describes the event, “Rhonda’s Kiss is a most unique charity, as they have considered what most organizations overlook; which is how are patients going to pay their bills while in treatment? …the answer is Rhonda’s Kiss.”  “At Cedars-Sinai, it is our mission to treat the cancer patient as a whole, rather than just the disease,” said Amin Mirhadi, MD, radiation oncologist at the Cedars-Sinai Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute. “We are proud to collaborate with the Rhonda’s Kiss foundation to help us achieve that.” “Raising money for cancer is a reminder that every day, people are struggling with the disease and need the support to maintain their dignity and fight,” said Kyle Stefanski, CEO of Rhonda’s Kiss. “We are blessed to have strong support from artists such as Jane's Addiction, the public, and hospitals like Cedars-Sinai to be able to help more and more people fight this terrible disease.” JANE'S ADDICTION has written the rule book of alternative music and culture through a combination of genre-defying classic songs and a cinematic live experience. In 1988, JANE'S ADDICTION would officially arrive as a pop culture force with their first proper studio album, Nothing's Shocking. Perry Farrell stands out as one of music's most forward-thinking and enigmatic frontmen, and his vocals soar with vibrancy, vulnerability and vitality. Guitar god Dave Navarro conjures simultaneouslypsychedelic and epic riffs. Stephen Perkins' tribal stomp remains hypnotic and transfixing. The band created a sound that the world had never heard before. It was as riff heavy as it was sensitive.Farrell lyrically chronicled the stranger side of L.A. life, telling personal tales that'd stick with fans just as much as Navarro's licks did.  In 1991, for the JANE'S ADDICTION "farewell" tour, Farrell concocted Lollapalooza. JANE'S ADDICTIONwent on hiatus, but they never truly went away. The world needed JANE'S ADDICTION in 2003 just as much as it did in 1985, and the band released Strays, their first new album in 13 years. The first single"Just Because" was their biggest single to date landing at #1. JANE'S ADDICTION was once again everywhere with "Superhero" becoming the opening theme song for HBO's hit show “Entourage” at the same time. The band headlined the re-tooled Lollapalooza festival that summer. 2016 saw the band tour their Ritual De Lo Habitual album in its entirety for the 25th anniversary of its release in addition to a special vinyl box set and live recording at Irvine Meadows in California.  In 2014, Rhonda Stefanski was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. While she lost her battle, one of the greatest gifts she left was to create RHONDA’S KISS, an event to raise money to help those in the inner city who receive a cancer diagnosis, but may be unable to make ends meet for treatment and support. Through the RHONDA’S KISS Los Angeles event and with proceeds benefiting Cedars-Sinai, RHONDA’S KISS provides financial support to decrease late-stage cancer diagnosis in urban communities, and primarily for patients in financial need, by using a three-pronged approach: outreach (education, awareness and screening), navigation (medical and home) and patient services (treatment and financial assistance, and emotional support). Funds are distributed by local hospitals in areas where money is raised. For more information or to donate directly, contact: www.rhondaskiss.org. Tickets for RHONDA’S KISS are available here: https://rhondaskiss.org/site/events/. JANE’S ADDICTION & THE HELLCAT SAINTSCONCERT TO BENEFIT RHONDA’S KISS WHERE:      THE PALLADIUM6215 SUNSET BLVD.Los Angeles, CA 90028 WHEN:        FRIDAY, DECEMBER 8, 2017

The National's Sleep Well Beast Nominated for Best Alternative Album for the 2018 GRAMMY Awards

THE NATIONAL'S  SLEEP WELL BEAST  NOMINATED FOR BEST ALTERNATIVE MUSIC ALBUM FOR THE 2018 GRAMMY® AWARDS
SLEEP WELL BEAST ALSO NOMINATED FOR BEST RECORDING PACKAGE
Today, The Recording Academy® announced its nominations for the 60th annual GRAMMY® Awards including a nomination for The National in the Best Alternative Music Album category for their 2017 release Sleep Well Beast. This is the second Best Alternative Album GRAMMY nomination for The National, who were nominated for their last album, Trouble Will Find MeSleep Well Beast, with designers Luke Hayman and Andrea Trabucco-Campos of Pentagram, also received a nomination for Best Recording Package.
The National have established themselves as mainstays of arenas and festivals with sold-out performances and headlining slots around the world. With the release of Sleep Well Beast, The National achieved their highest chart position in the US to date, coming in at #2 on the Billboard Top 200. In addition they scored #1's in the UK, Ireland, Portugal and Canada. The band received their highest chart position ever in a total of eleven countries. The National also claimed their first #1 at commercial radio on the Triple-A radio chart with "The System Only Dreams in Total Darkness."The songs off Sleep Well Beast are instantly recognizable as The National, but their sound has evolved and expanded. Sleep Well Beast is currently gracing best of 2017 lists around the globe. "It was important that we genuinely explore new territory and risk falling on our faces, or not make a record at all," explains guitarist and producer Aaron Dessner. "This album feels complete to me."
What critics are saying about Sleep Well Beast:
"The National's upcoming full-length, Sleep Well Beast, is shaping up to be the best album the band has done." -  NPR
"Elegant melancholia isn't enough for the National anymore. On its seventh album, Sleep Well Beast, its new songs have more rhythmic ferment and melodic crosscurrents; they translate emotional complexity into musical counterpoint." -  New York Times
"This seventh record from the aughts' indie superstars promises a feast of grandiose rock." -  New York Magazine
"Over the past 16 years this veteran indie quintet has quietly become one of the biggest bands in the country, and with their seventh album they've achieved the rare feat of releasing one of their best - if not the best - collection to date." -  Variety
"On Sleep Well Beast, the usual National ingredients are in place-cryptic imagery, brooding baritone, all-consuming melancholy-accompanied by an increasing interest in electronic rhythms and textures. " -  Newsweek
"The indie band's seventh LP lives up to their acclaim as one of the nation's best, with sullen Matt Berninger's sullen croon turning midtempo ballads like 'Nobody Else Will Be There' into full-blow anthems. And the guitar work of brothers Aaron and Bryce Dessner impresses more than ever, particularly on the squalling 'Turtleneck.'" -  People Magazine
"The National is back when we need them most...on their sonically expansive seventh outing, [they] have come roaring back with their most ambitious, urgent album yet." -  USA Today
"Sleep Well Beast is what it is: an emotional battlefield, beautifully drawn, familiar and true. Berninger voices a panicked, depressive insomniac who might be any of us, trying to hold it together while everything falls apart." -  Rolling Stone
