Throbbing Gristle Announce 'Live at the Volksbühne Berlin, New Year’s Eve 2005' || Out 5/16 On Mute || Listen To "Almost A Kiss (Live)"
THROBBING GRISTLE ANNOUNCE
LIVE AT THE VOLKSBÜHNE, BERLIN, NEW YEAR’S EVE 2005
SHARE “ALMOST A KISS (LIVE)”

Throbbing Gristle’s Live at the Volksbühne Berlin, New Year’s Eve 2005 has been announced as a standalone vinyl, CD and digital release, due out via Mute on May 16, 2025.
The 11-track live album was originally available on the recent acclaimed box set, TG Berlin, which chronicled unreleased work recorded around a series of live events curated by the band.
Recorded 20 years ago at the New Year’s Eve show at the Volksbühne, the album previewed five songs from Part Two: The Endless Not, the band’s first album in 27 years, several years before its release. The set, described by Uncut as “magisterial,” includes “Convincing People”, “Slug Bait”, and “Hamburger Lady” (their first encore in 25/26 years, and what an encore!).
Listen to “Almost A Kiss” HERE.
In 2004, Throbbing Gristle, Chris Carter, Cosey Fanni Tutti, Genesis Breyer P-Orridge (1950-2020) and Peter 'Sleazy' Christopherson (1955-2010), regrouped and the following six years became a period of renewed creativity for the band. Back in the studio after 20 years, they found group intuition when performing was intact and their ability to break down barriers and forge connections with an audience was more powerful than ever.
TG Berlin and Live at the Volksbühne Berlin, New Year’s Eve 2005 are the latest releases in an ongoing collaboration with Mute, compelling documents of Throbbing Gristle performing and recording as a four-piece with a renewed vigour. From the opening beats and serrated electronics of one of their final tracks recorded together, “Scabs & Saws”, it’s clear that TG are not revisiting ground already tread, but bringing two decades of individual experience back into the studio to create a new exploration of sound. The vocals have a different depth, the groove is deeper, and the atmosphere has lost none of its potency.
Throbbing Gristle formed in 1975, and for the next six years they fully delivered on punk’s failed promise to explore extreme culture as a way of sabotaging systems of control. During that time, they released crucial records such as The Second Annual Report Of Throbbing Gristle (1977), D.O.A The Third And Final Report Of Throbbing Gristle (1978), and 20 Jazz Funk Greats (1979) and were infamously named “wreckers of civilisation” by the Conservative MP Nicholas Fairbairn in 1976.From 2004, they embarked on a series of live performances, including Coachella and Primavera festivals, Tate Modern, and Heaven, and returned to the studio to produce several albums including TG Now (2004), and Part Two: The Endless Not (2007), as well as a 3-day “studio installation” at the ICA before disbanding in 2010. Their impact on music, culture and the arts has been immeasurable, and is still felt today across music, film, theatre, and fine art.
Throbbing Gristle:
Chris Carter: Rhythms, Loops, Synth
Cosey Fanni Tutti: Guitar, Cornet, Melodica, Sampler
Genesis P-Orridge: Vocals, Violin, Bass
Peter Christopherson: Sampler, Persephone keyboard
Live at the Volksbühne Berlin, New Year’s Eve 2005 will be released on Mute on May 16, 2025. Pre-order HERE.

Southern California’s premier live music, art, and culinary event BEACHLIFE FESTIVAL, taking place May 2-4, 2025 on the picturesque waterfront in Redondo Beach, CA, is announcing the exciting lineup for its SpeakEasy Stage presented by Grillo’s Pickles. Offering a unique opportunity to experience rock legends and Southern California punk staples performing reimagined stripped-down versions from their catalogs, SpeakEasy is an intimate experience that can only be found at BeachLife’s signature laid-back, oceanfront setting.
This year the SpeakEasy stage, presented by Grillo’s Pickles, will feature one-of-a-kind performances from Milo Aukerman (Descendents), Jim Lindberg (Pennywise), Donavon Frankenreiter, Michael Glabicki (Uprooted/Rusted Root), Phantom Planet (acoustic), Matt Costa, Jesse James Pariah, Nate Barcalow, Chase Petra and Taft Buckley.
The SpeakEasy Stage is developed by BeachLife Creative Director Jim Lindberg. Lindberg, a pioneer of the West Coast punk scene as frontman for Hermosa Beach-based group Pennywise, conceptualized SpeakEasy to integrate some of LA’s hardcore spirit with the easygoing nature of the festival.
“The South Bay is known internationally as the birthplace of some of the best hardcore punk in the world,” shares Jim Lindberg. “This year we have home grown local Milo Aukerman from the Descendents playing our SpeakEasy acoustic stage and I don’t think his band has ever been more popular than they are right now. Representing the punk scene on the SpeakEasy stage has always been a top priority for us and this year is no different. We’ve gathered a really eclectic group of artists once again and everyone will find something to like. It’s always the place to be! (On the down low).”
Eddie Andre, Co-Founder/VP of Brand, Grillo’s Pickles adds, “This year is extra special for Grillo’s Pickles and me because some of our biggest musical influences such as Milo of Descendents and Jim Lindberg of Pennywise are playing the stage. Punk and skateboarding have always been part of the DNA of Grillo’s and we’re excited to be bringing back the SpeakEasy Stage this year! You can expect to see some amazing art at the Punk Rock & Paintbrushes zone as well as pickle themed cocktails and merch. Oh.. and the return of Sam Sam the Pickle man, the pickle ride and of course FREE GRILLO’S PICKLES.”

"It's Okay" featuring Kassa Overall
LISTEN:
https://emmajeanthackray.lnk.to/itsokay
(February 18th, 2025) - Acclaimed producer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist Emma-Jean Thackray shares her latest single, "It's Okay," featuring Seattle drummer, rapper and bandleader Kassa Overall. This marks the third single from her highly anticipated sophomore album Weirdo set for release on April 25th via Gilles Peterson’s label Brownswood Recordings in conjunction with Parlophone. Renowned for pushing musical boundaries, Thackray's latest work is a profoundly personal and uniquely original reflection on selfhood, loss, and appreciation.
"It's Okay" is a dreamy and weightless composition that showcases Thackray's ability to warp and meld genres. The track unfolds with laid-back bars delivered by Kassa Overall, underpinned by the rattle of acoustic drums, gentle brass tones, and Thackray's airy vocals serenading the phrase "It's Okay" throughout the arrangement. The result is a soothing and ethereal track that invites listeners into a serene and hazy landscape.
"This is a lullaby for everyone that needs some soothing - a hug or a pat on the shoulder. It’s been quite difficult for me to engage with the trumpet as much recently, so there isn’t a lot of brass on the album. The moments where there is brass is where I’m really digging into my feelings, so the trumpet solo in the bridge is quite revealing. Kassa is a fellow weirdo and totally delivered the message. The message to all the listeners is that no matter what happens "it's okay"; or maybe it's a message to myself.”
Drawing on an eclectic mix of influences—grunge, pop, soul, p-funk, and jazz— the upcoming album Weirdo is a triumphant celebration of survival and individuality. Written, performed, recorded, mixed, produced and arranged entirely by Thackray in her South London flat, the album stands as a testament to her extraordinary musicianship and fearless self-expression.
Previous releases from the project include “Wanna Die,” a striking blend of frenetic energy and emotional vulnerability. With its scattered, uptempo beat driving the track forward, the song juxtaposes its rhythmically playful foundation against poignant reflections on mortality and resilience. “Black Hole” featuring Reggie Watts introduced the new record late last year, a delectable slice of P-funk that channels everything from jazz, pop, and soul in signature Emma-Jean Thackray style.
Originally conceived as a meditation on neurodivergence and mental health, Weirdo evolved after the unexpected loss of her long-term partner from natural causes in January 2023, resulting in an album that feels deeply personal and universal. With intricate compositions, raw emotion, and an unflinching authenticity, Weirdo is more than an album; it’s a masterpiece of resilience, a celebration of individuality, and a bold leap forward for an artist at the forefront of British music. Blurring the lines between genre and emotion, Weirdo evokes comparisons to Meshell Ndegeocello, Kate Bush and Nirvana—on the dancefloor.
Emma-Jean’s journey to becoming one of the most talked-about figures in contemporary music has been anything but conventional. Born in West Yorkshire and classically trained at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and Trinity Laban Conservatoire, she spent her early career defying musical boundaries with her genre-blending sound. Emma-Jean grew up in a low-income, working-class family. This alone makes her unusual, when over 92% of actors, musicians and writers grew up cushioned by medium or high-income backgrounds, according to the Office for National Statistics. Her rise to prominence included her self-released EP Walrus (2016) and the Jazz FM award-winning Yellow (2021), which solidified her position as one of the UK's most innovative musicians and saw her performing at iconic venues and festivals, from the London Symphony Orchestra to numerous Glastonbury slots.
The new project heralds the start of a new musical chapter for Emma-Jean as part of the revered Brownswood Recordings (Yussef Dayes, KOKOROKO). An institution proudly rooted in London’s diverse music community, the label has become a hub for eclectic genre-defying music and feels like the perfect home for a boundary-blurring musical force such as Thackray.

Indie Pop Band Bermuda Search Party Announce Album 'Fools On Parade' - Out April 4th
INDIE POP BAND
BERMUDA SEARCH PARTY
ANNOUNCE SOPHOMORE ALBUM
FOOLS ON PARADE
SPRING HEADLINE TOUR ON SALE

February 18, 2025— Today, Boston’s unapologetically energetic band Bermuda Search Party announced they will release their sophomore album, Fools On Parade, on April 4th. The record is their first since signing with Nettwerk. In 2024, the four members—Leo Son [vocals, guitar], Claire Davis [vocals, bass], Maclin Tucker [trumpets, keys], and Hoyt Parquet [trombone] dove headfirst into crafting what would become Fools On Parade. They decamped to Los Angeles, where they couch surfed for three weeks while recording with producer Eric Palmquist [Half*Alive, Tate McRae, Bad Suns].
“In the past, we recorded live with some overdubs later,” Claire notes. “This was the first time where we truly started from the ground up. We focused on what each song needed as opposed to what we’d been doing with it on tour. It was a new approach for us, and the simple elements shine. Eric was a big part of why the record is what it is. I grew up listening to Bad Suns, and we reached out blindly to him. It was cool he responded in the first place. For about a month, it was nothing but this album for us, which put us in a cool creative space.”
“Everybody in the band complements each other well,” Leo explains. “It’s a balance of strange energy, and it just works. It’s funny, because the phrase Fools On Parade resonates with us. We’re never trying to be cool; we’re a bunch of goofs. I’ve been recovering, clean, and sober for a while, and I took the emotions I had when I was drinking and using, and I tried to paint a picture. I hope the record uplifts the listener and makes them see life is worth showing up for. It’s okay to feel good!” Leo leaves off. “We’re showing who we are,” adds Claire. “You don’t have to change yourself or put on a front. Deep down, we’re all the same. We’re all Fools On Parade.”
To celebrate the announcement, they share the new single, “Sed N Dun,” a catchy earworm infused with a horn section and velvety pop dual vocal harmonies. Leo adds, “It is the contagiously peppy, infectiously catchy breakup anthem that will get stuck in not just your head, but in every fiber of your body and clothing, just like that happy memory you can't untangle from a cyclical toxic relationship. Groovy in instrumentation and lyrically thought-provoking, it explores the fabric of a relationship that, for better or for worse, will not hold together, no matter how often it is mended, patched, and sewn back together. Just like that sweater with holes, rips, and tears that stays in the back of your closet and no longer keeps you warm, it is the tale of a love that no longer functions properly, but is too comfortable and familiar to throw away, so it will continue to play out on repeat.”

Formed while studying at Berklee College Of Music, they released their self-produced debut LP, Melancholy Flowers, in 2022. The recent grads have already made a name for themselves with their raucous live show and continuous touring/ They have recently supported acts like Jukebox The Ghost, The Collection, Ripe, and Will Evans and played festivals like Boston Calling, Levitate, Treefort, Green River, Rochester Jazz Festival, Underground Music Showcase, Mile Of Music, and SXSW. As one of the three fan-voted winners for Sixthman’s Soundcheck contest, they performed on the Rock Boat last month along with Walk The Moon, American Authors, The Strumbellas, and more. In support of the album, the band will hit the road this April for a headline tour that will take them across the country, including stops in Toronto, Chicago, Denver, Portland, San Francisco, San Diego, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Dallas, Austin, Houston, New Orleans, Nashville, and more. “Hood’s gift for the character study abundantly justifies the extra room to roam, and the ambitious arrangements, spanning folk to jazz to electronica
are fleshed out by a stellar cast of collaborators.”
– UNCUT (9/10)
Drive-By Truckers co-founder Patterson Hood has shared “The Forks of Cypress (feat. Waxahatchee),” the latest single (featuring Katie Crutchfield) from his landmark new solo album, Exploding Trees & Airplane Screams, arriving via ATO Records on Friday, February 21. Pre-orders are available now. An official music video – filmed by Bradley Wagner and Juan M. Soria at the historic Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY before Drive-By Truckers took the stage on their Southern Rock Opera Revisited Tour earlier this year and featuring aerial footage of Hood’s hometown of Florence, AL provided by local pilot John David Apkarian of Wings Over Bama – premieres today on YouTube.
“The Forks of Cypress a real place, a few miles just north of my hometown of Florence, Alabama,” says Patterson Hood. “A former plantation house, once owned by a cousin of Andrew Jackson, it was struck by a ‘lightning cluster’ in 1966 – when I was two – and exploded into flames, burning to the ground in under five minutes. All that was left were these huge columns, in a rectangle on top of the hill overlooking the meadow. It was right by a very creepy rickety one lane bridge that the locals called Ghost Bridge. I drove past this (and crossed the scary bridge) every week of my childhood on my way to my Great Uncle’s house (where I spent every weekend). Later, as a teenager, kids would drive dates out to Ghost Bridge and tell ghost stories and make out. The bridge was torn down about a decade ago.
“I wrote the song as pure fiction, inspired by those great story songs that Bobbie Gentry did, an ‘Ode to Billie Joe,’ etc., where she implies a story without really telling it. In my head, I heard Katie Crutchfield (Waxahatchee) singing it with me and was blessed that she was willing to do so. She’s one of my very favorite artists, and such a lovely person.
“The song was fleshed out wonderfully by Phil and Brad Cook (who played keyboards, dobro and bass on it), Dan Hunt on drums, and then Kevin Morby put the cherry on top with a stunning lead part.
“Whipped cream and cherry.”

Produced by Chris Funk (The Decemberists, Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks) at various studios in Hood’s current hometown of Portland, OR, Exploding Trees & Airplane Screams marks the singer-songwriter-guitarist’s most expansive and ambitious extracurricular effort to date, supported by a stellar cast of friends and fellow musicians including Waxahatchee, Brad and Phil Cook (Megafaun), Kevin Morby, Wednesday, Brad Morgan and Jay Gonzalez (Drive-By Truckers), Steve Berlin (Los Lobos, The Blasters), David Barbe (Sugar, Mercyland), Nate Query (The Decemberists), Steve Drizos (Jerry Joseph and The Jackmormons), Daniel Hunt (Neko Case, M Ward), and Stuart Bogie (The Hold Steady, Goose).
The 10-track was heralded late in 2024 with the first single, “A Werewolf and a Girl,” featuring additional vocals from Lydia Loveless. A lyric video directed by Jason Shevchuk is streaming now on YouTube.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE | February 18, 2025 — A celebrated group of the new wave era, Translator has announced details of their first live concert release. Beyond Today: Live at the Farm – San Francisco 1986 arrives May 9 on LP, CD, and download from Liberation Hall. The vinyl LP will feature eight tracks from the final show of the group’s period at Columbia Records (1982-1986). The CD and download will include an additional four live tracks, including the previously unreleased “Puzzles,” as well as two brand-new songs mixed last year by renowned producer Ed Stasium. All formats are distributed by MVD Entertainment Group (USA) and Wienerworld (UK).
The album is available for pre-order at Bandcamp. A digital single, “These Days to Come,” is released today.
Formed in Los Angeles in 1979, Translator began as the trio of Steve Barton (vocals, guitar), Larry Dekker (bass), and Dave Scheff (drums). After playing a handful of shows, the lineup was solidified by the addition of Robert Darlington (vocals, guitar). Translator relocated to San Francisco and was quickly signed to local label, 415 Records. The timing was fortunate as Translator became one of the first groups to benefit from 415’s manufacturing and distribution deal with Columbia Records. Debut album Heartbeats and Triggers arrived in 1982 and was greeted with critical praise and solid airplay for the career-defining tracks “Everywhere That I’m Not” and “Everywhere.” A video for the group’s anti-nuke statement, “Sleeping Snakes,” received airplay on MTV.
Between 1983 and 1986, the band completed three more albums for Columbia Records. They received significant airplay for "Un-Alone,” from No Time Like Now, which was their second album produced by David Kahne (The Bangles, Romeo Void, Fishbone). For their third and fourth albums — the self-titled Translator and Evening of the Harvest — the group worked with producer Ed Stasium. Stasium’s resume at the time included engineering the Ramones’ Leave Home and Rocket to Russia, as well as Talking Heads: 77; mixing Talking Heads’ More Songs About Buildings and Food; and producing the Ramones’ Road to Ruin and It’s Alive.

The 1980s were a slightly strange time for a guitar-based group like Translator, as the charts were loaded with synthesizer bands and larger-than-life pop stars. In the first half of the decade, they shared stages with the Kinks, David Bowie, R.E.M., Psychedelic Furs, ABC, Sparks, Romeo Void, Echo & the Bunnymen, Gang of Four, and many others.
Translator had always wanted to release a live album. The closest they came during their Columbia years was 1986’s Evening of the Harvest. Stasium only made subtle additions to the live-in-studio recordings. Between-song ambient sounds and a few other embellishments are among the few ingredients that separate the album from an audio verité recording.
Near the end of the tour in support of Evening of the Harvest, the four members of Translator had decided to go their separate ways. Bill Kopp, author of Disturbing the Peace: 415 Records and the Rise of New Wave , writes in Beyond Today’s liner notes, “Translator decided to go out with a bang, scheduling a hometown show to reward their ardent fan base. They booked a date at The Farm, a beloved environmental art and performance space at Army Street (now Cesar Chavez Street) and Potrero in San Francisco.”
“We just got back from being on the road, so were quite warmed up,” Darlington continued. “It was an incredibly emotional show for me. You can kind of hear it in the first few songs.” The band opened with “Beyond Today” (from No Time Like Now), establishing a tone — uncertain of the future but unbowed — that carried the entire evening. Steve Barton added, “We tied colorful balloons to the amps to make it a sort of celebration — but it was very bittersweet at the same time. We knew it was the end. I dressed in all white instead of my usual dark clothes…ready for a fresh canvas, I suppose.”
Beyond Today: Live at the Farm – San Francisco 1986 marks the first time this concert has been available as a physical release. For a brief time in 2020, the recording had been available to stream on the group’s website, Translator-Band.com. “The Farm was our last show of the ‘80s and as far as we knew at the time, our last show ever,” recalled Scheff. “It was recorded on a Sony cassette machine sitting on the board near our soundman Floyd Solders. It picked up talking, crowd noise, and exactly what we played in the moment… it captures all the energy we were feeling that night, and all the noise we made!”
One of the highlights of Beyond Today is “Drum Solo/Puzzles/Favorite Drug.” The track begins with the first drum solo Scheff ever performed with the band (yes, it took seven years for that first solo to arrive), which leads into the previously unreleased song, “Puzzles.” “Puzzles” is perhaps the most surprising song that Translator has recorded, an exhilarating and heavy detour into prog rock. The medley concludes with the tense, nervy dynamics of “Favorite Drug.”
To mark the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the band’s breakup, Translator delighted fans with reunion shows in 2006, including performances at SXSW in Austin, Texas. Since then, the band members have continued performing and recording, both together and separately. A fifth Translator studio album, Carriage of Days, was released by the band in 2017.
Beyond Today is rounded out by a special treat for purchasers of the CD or download. The final two tracks, “These Days to Come” and “With Your Dreams,” are newly written band compositions recorded over the past two years by Translator. Both are mixed by Stasium. “It was so cool to work with Ed again,” said Barton. “We have remained close friends throughout the years, and he understood immediately what we were going for with these songs.” In addition to the new liner notes essay by Kopp, the package includes a wealth of photographs from The Farm concert by Trudy Fisher.

(February 18, 2025) - London’s High Vis announces their headline North American tour with special guests Militarie Gun. Set to kick off on April 15th in Seattle, the month-long run will see them traverse the United States (with a stop on Vancouver along the way) before wrapping in Los Angeles on May 15th. In addition to special guests Militarie Gun, who will perform on all the dates except LDB Festival, the run will feature support from Age of Apocalypse and Cold Gawd on select dates, along with two special appearances from Pissed Jeans on the East Coast. Tickets are on sale this Friday, February 21st at 10am local time HERE. The 25-date run will follow High Vis’ current European and United Kingdom headline run, which has seen the band perform to sold out rooms to high-energy crowds. High Vis was recently added to the BBC 6 Music A-List and was highlighted in a feature with Rolling Stone about the current rise of hardcore.
High Vis’ forthcoming headline tour comes on the heels of last fall’s release of their lauded album Guided Tour, which arrived in October via Dais Records. Guided Tour was praised by Pitchfork, Alternative Press, Revolver, Stereogum, and more upon its release and includes the singles “Guided Tour,” “Drop Me Out,” “Mob DLA,” and “Mind’s a Lie.”
On Guided Tour, High Vis sounds like a band reaching for new heights, bristling with energy. Recorded across a few weeks at Holy Mountain Studios in London with producer Jonah Falco and engineer Stanley Gravett (the pair also helmed the sessions for High Vis’ Blending), the results feel dynamic and dialed-in, like anthems burned into sense memory through sweat and repetition. The album’s 11 songs span the spectrum of contemporary guitar music, sharpened by experience, camaraderie, and societal frustrations. From swaggering street punk to jangling indie sneer to heavy alt to shoegazey spoken word, the group’s chemistry transmutes any style to their unique intensity.
Since 2018, High Vis has polished their progressive hardcore sound with shades of post-punk, Brit pop, neo-psychedelia, and even Madchester groove, mapping a middle ground between hooks and fury, melodies and mosh pits. In 2019, High Vis released their debut album No Sense No Feeling, which broadened the scope of the hardcore veterans beyond scene while creating self-described “post-industrial-Britain misery punk.” The celebrated follow up, 2022’s Blending includes the tracks “Talk For Hours” and “Trauma Bonds” and not only expands upon the sonic breadth of High Vis, but vocalist Sayle opened his chest cavity through his lyrics discussing social issues and political miseries while reaching a hand out to folks listening to give a message of hope.
