“Trappes has centered herself in the narrative while solidifying a sound that was already spellbinding to begin with” – Pitchfork
“A striking work of evolution and deconstruction… meticulous with fine detail, and trusting of the supernatural forces that elevate it.” – The Wire
“Starkly intimate and surreal - like watching yourself mourn intense tragedy from an outsider’s vantage point... unsettling in a way that feels magical” – Bandcamp
On April 4th, Brighton-based Australian vocalist, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Penelope Trappes will release her fifth full-length album ‘A Requiem’. It comes alongside news of her signing to London imprint, One Little Independent Records. ‘A Requiem’ collects ten haunting, ambient soundscapes - incantations of dreams and nightmares, of death and grief, as well as power and autonomy. Carnal, transcendent cello drones are used to exorcise historical and generational traumas in an evocative and macabre piece of gothic experimentalism.
New single and title track ‘A Requiem’ contains the basis for which the entire record represents; it is the “living funeral”. Its foreboding ambience expresses the impending and imminent goodbye.
Penelope says; “A Requiem was written for my ailing parents, whom I’ve now said my goodbyes to. Since back in the UK, alone, it’s taken on another meaning as a connection with the earth under my feet here in the land that is my ancestral home. For the visual, Agnes Haus filmed me in the dead of night on a frozen field in a desolate part of East Sussex to capture the extreme cold and to honour the lonely darkness around two holy oak trees, one living, and one long dead”.
Of the accompanying video, Agnes Haus adds; “We set out unscripted into the 0 degree night with two flood lights, and came across these oak trees. Two hours later, nearly frostbitten, we truly felt like we went through an otherworldly portal into another plane”.
The LP is a musical service in honour of the dead, a sanctuary Trappes built for herself to explore familial chaos and history. “I was looking for an equilibrium between a ‘heaven' and a ‘hell’” she explains, “screaming out to the wisdom of our foremothers - surfacing and leading me into true strength and beauty. I listened to the sorrow closely. Death is a part of our reality. Inevitable. Omnipresent. But nightmares can be beautiful”.
Seeking solitude for what she knew would be an intense and cathartic writing experience, Trappes travelled to Scotland and isolated completely. Amidst meditative and psychedelic states, she channeled demons and accessed parts of herself she’d long desired to cleanse. During candle-lit recording sessions she found herself drawn to cello, an instrument she has no formal training in, she explains, “I always felt an affinity toward the cello, I embraced it, held it, and became one with it as a way to accompany my voice. The nerve-like strings of the cello became external chords of my vocal folds… I scratched on them, leaned into them, and conjured all of the textures I could muster”.
‘A Requiem’ is a raw, spiritual journey. Astonishingly vulnerable, and a compelling examination of loss - the threat of it, the meaning of it, the coming to terms with it. Across an album of breathtaking compositions, we are asked to bear witness to a sacred personal experience like no other.
Despite formal vocal training in opera and jazz when she was younger, it wasn’t until after her daughter was born that Penelope began writing her own music. She says coming into music later has been eye opening, and she laments the fact that women past 30 are too often discarded by the music industry; “Creativity doesn’t go away when you get older, it flourishes, changes, grows like all of life,” she says, “it amazes me that this is still something for society to wrap their heads around.”
Penelope released her acclaimed trilogy, ‘Penelope One’, ‘Two’ and ‘Three’, on Fabric’s Houndstooth label. In between instalments of her ambitious trilogy, Penelope released a clutch of both experimental and more dreampop-oriented EPs. She demonstrated her versatility in the extended 25-minute deep-listening composition ‘Gnostic State’, and the arpeggiated electronics and minimalist songwriting on the ‘Eel Drip’ EP, which was accompanied by image and film inspired by Francesca Woodman’s 1970s series of nude self-portraits with eels. She also released an album of reworks, ‘Penelope Redeux’, with contributions by Cosey Fanni Tutti, Mogwai, and Nik Colk Void, and the cassette, ‘Mother’s Blood,’ a vocal-free meditative reinterpretation of 'Penelope Three’ concluding with the live-scoring of a 1-hour film at Sonica Festival.
Penelope’s fourth album, ‘Heavenly Spheres’, was released in 2023 on her own Nite Hive imprint, was composed using just piano, voice and an old reel-to-reel tape deck during a two-week artist residency for Britten Pears Arts at the house where the composer, teacher and musicologist Imogen Holst lived in Aldeburgh, Suffolk. Most recently, 2024’s ‘Hommelen’, the austere and beautifully severe result of her Halldorophone residency at EMS Stockholm was released on Paralaxe Editions.
In the live realm, Penelope’s music expands into tidal waves and surges of tension with hypnotising gothic live visuals by Agnes Haus. Select shows are accompanied by a live band, and other times performing solo, she has shared the stage with the likes of William Basinski, Mary Lattimore, and NYX drone choir, and she has extensively toured the UK, Australia, and Europe over the last five years, including a pivotal live performance with the London Contemporary Orchestra at Southbank Centre.

Jonathan Rach, award-winning documentary photographer and close collaborator of Nine Inch Nails, brings his iconic Self Destruct Tour photography to the U.S. for the first time. Following acclaimed exhibitions in Australia (March 2024) and the UK (October 2024), this collection captures the raw intensity of Nine Inch Nails’ legendary 1994-96 global tour, celebrating the 30th anniversary of The Downward Spiral. In 1994, Nine Inch Nails transitioned from underground disruptors to generational icons, delivering live performances that were equal parts chaos and catharsis. Embedded in the Self Destruct Tour, Jonathan Rach captured this unfiltered energy, creating a collection that transcends photography to become an artifact of a groundbreaking moment in music history.
As Rach told Rolling Stone, “I knew night after night that Trent [Reznor] was doing something pretty special, and they would talk about this tour for years. The shows had a ferocious energy matched only by the crowd out front. To this day, the industry still talks about that tour and its impact.”
The Los Angeles showcase will expand the collection to include more than 50 powerful images, ranging from behind-the-scenes moments to career-defining performances. The exhibition includes highlights from NIN’s six-night Hollywood Palladium run in 2018, as well as photographs of legendary artists David Bowie and Lou Reed.

Debut Album Tripla due out April 4 via Bella Union

Singles: “ 8th Deadly Sin ” “ Big I Am ”
Miki Berenyi Trio have released “Big I Am”, the latest single from their forthcoming debut album Tripla due out April 4 via Bella Union. Lacing turbulent rhythms and crunchy guitar with industrial electronic beats that command you to the dancefloor, the song skewers the macho aggression unleashed by social media types such as Andrew Tate: “Throws his weight around, living a lie / Empty victory, stereotype, cliché masculine.” Miki Berenyi shares: “I've witnessed 50+ years of the trends in masculinity and frankly, nothing much changes – as ever, there are good men and there are shit men, and there are boys who can be misguided but easily mature into the best of their sex. But this latest incarnation of 'winning' the sex war is a laughably infantile and wilfully regressive new low.” The accompanying video was filmed at the Consortium Museum (Contemporary Art Center) in Dijon, France, in one of the Isabella Ducrot “Profusione” exhibition rooms, by director Sébastien Faits-Divers.
Miki Berenyi Trio, or MB3 for short, is named after its lead singer – a direct way to convey the presence of the former singer/co-guitarist of Lush, and one of the most instantly recognisable faces of the ‘90s - but the songwriting is entirely a three-way collaboration, as the album title describes: acknowledging the mother tongue of Miki’s father, Tripla is Hungarian for ‘triple’. Already earning acclaim for the project from Stereogum, Under The Radar, SPIN, BrooklynVegan, FLOOD and more, it is a landmark record for its three creators: Miki Berenyi, KJ ‘Moose’ McKillop and Oliver Cherer. The album’s richly layered, imaginative and uniquely slanted strain of dream pop is an often euphoric and sometimes melancholic mix of guitars and electronica, fronted by Miki’s instantly recognisable vocal, overlaid with an often profound and sometimes abrasive or yearning view of the world.
Tripla is completed by a superb mix by Paul Gregory (of Bella Union labelmates Lanterns On The Lake) and beautiful artwork by Chris Bigg – who designed the sleeves for Piroshka and contributed to all of Lush’s sleeves – incorporating photography from Martin Andersen. But for all the album’s heightened and sophisticated sound, MB3 have gone back to basics, not only recording at home but driving a car packed with their gear, loading in and out of venues themselves. “There is something very ‘grass roots’ about what we’re doing,” says Miki. “There’s no point following the ‘announce the album, then tour, then record the next album’ route – we just want to wring as much enjoyment out of this as we can, and hope that it resonates somewhere!”
Miki Berenyi Trio have announced a number of upcoming live dates including Rough Trade instore performances for the album launch in April followed by a European tour and a UK tour in May. All dates are listed here.

EVERYTHING MUST GO
ARRIVES VIA NO COINCIDENCE RECORDS
ON FRIDAY, APRIL 25
DIGITAL PRE-SAVES AND VINYL PRE-ORDERS AVAILABLE NOW

“Lead Up,” the second single off of Goose’s forthcoming new album, Everything Must Go, opens with a distant howl cutting through the stillness. The song begins ominously, showcasing the band’s ethereal register. Its searching lyrics — “oftentimes we worry about the things we waste”— read melancholic, but they are acid-tinged. A pacing snare drum gathers the potential energy of the track, building through a forceful chorus and culminating in the searing notes of guitarist Rick Mitarotonda’s distorted guitar. The song ends as softly as it begins. The echoing lines of the chorus haunt the final measures: “I wish I could take it all away.”
“The record is a collection — of songs, of characters, and of different places and times in our lives,” Mitarotonda says of ‘Lead Up,’ which reemerged recently from a song originally written during his early teenage years. “It was a way for me to explore feelings that I didn’t really understand at the time. Sometimes as you get older it becomes valuable reflecting on things from that time in your life, and how pure and unadulterated expressions can be then.“

DIGITAL PRE-SAVE EVERYTHING MUST GO;
VINYL PRE-ORDERS AVAILABLE NOW
Everything Must Go spans Goose’s musical history and arrives via No Coincidence Records on Friday, April 25. Digital and vinyl pre-orders are available now. The album was heralded earlier in the year with the release of “Give It Time,” a song which, like the solitary voice of doubt that rattles through the mind in our loneliest hours, starts gently but soon begins to build, buoyed by the steadying cadence of a bass drum. As the music intensifies, unfurling with soaring guitar and five-part harmonies, the uncertainty of the opening measures begins to crack, revealing in its place a perpetual message of hope. The video – filmed, edited, and directed by Michael Nuchareno – features exclusive behind-the-scenes footage and explosive live shows that perfectly match the powerful development and crescendo of the song’s message of strength derived from new beginnings.
WATCH “GIVE IT TIME” OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO
LISTEN TO “GIVE IT TIME”
The album is the Connecticut-based quintet’s first new studio LP in close to three years. It’s the first release since 2022’s critically acclaimed Dripfield and was produced once again by D. James Goodwin, helping mark the band’s evolution since its inception in 2014. Drawing from the feel of its live performances, the album features a carnivalesque cast of characters — primarily songs written throughout the band’s recent years of growth, including re-imagined live staples and songs that capture the band’s evolving, dynamic sound.
“These songs all come from different times and places in a way that captures a part of the journey of the band,” Mitarotonda says. “It moves through time for us, but not in a tidy, linear way. Like the band, it's okay for things to feel more like a landscape sometimes and less like a singular cohesive statement. It mixes different moods and ideas and characters. The through line is that each piece is part of that journey and that everyone is welcome to the party.”
For fans and newcomers alike, Everything Must Go is an arrival of sorts — a journey through the group's past and present. It's also a statement of intent.
“As we were experiencing a significant change in the lives of the band, as well as reflecting on the multitude of fast past changes unfolding around all of us constantly, the title continued to take on many layers of meaning throughout the process,” Mitarotonda says. "The idea was to throw everything at this project. To wipe the slate clean.”

SHE WANTS REVENGE frontman Justin Warfield lets fly new singer "Jet Plane"

SHE WANTS REVENGE frontman Justin Warfield lets fly new single "Jet Plane"
Los Angeles, California: With their poptastic debut single “All The Fun (Kiss Kiss Kiss)” still reaping acclaim, WARFIELD - the exciting new project led by She Wants revenge lyricist and frontman Justin Warfield - release their follow-up today.
Taken again from the forthcoming Deathrock Devotionals Vol I EP, “Jet Plane” marries an irresistibly propulsive groove to the descriptive storytelling for which Warfield has forever been renowned. And it’s aptly-titled, too. As Justin puts it, “Jet Plane” “sounds like just one; full speed, propulsion, engine on red, and all go-go-go.”
“Jet Plane” calls to mind the B-52’s and The Pretenders, but it broods with Justin’s own signature tone, imagery, and rapid-fire flow. With a beat you can’t help but move to, and an earworm chorus you will be singing before you’ve even finished listening to it, "Jet Plane" is youthful, undeniable, and will transport you to an underground all-ages party in an East LA warehouse where Manchester is the mindset.
Add the very ghostly reference of the refrain of “Sympathy to the Devil” to the brew (you’ll know it when you hear it), and anticipation for the EP is only going to grow stronger in its aftermath.
SINGLE: https://orcd.co/warfield_jetplane
Justin describes WARFIELD as his first “proper” solo release since he co-founded She Wants Revenge in 2004, and whose self-titled release singlehandedly realigned the future of the Dark Alternative scene - “it’s the only recording and touring project I’ve helmed outside of SWR.” The band itself, however, is by no means out of circulation - in the months to come, She Wants Revenge will be appearing at both Los Angeles’ famed Cruel World Festival and Forever Now, the sister festival in Milton Keynes, England.
But WARFIELD, too, will be on the road, playing their first ever live show at an EP release party in Echo Park, Los Angeles on March 29th, before launching a full European/UK tour in June, and North American tours in the Summer and Fall.
In the meantime, the “Jet Plane” video is here to at least help slake the appetite.

Tom Waits Performs + Reads Poetry in Italian Documentary 'The Human Factor'

“THE LAST RIDE”, AN EPISODE OF ITALIAN DOCUMENTARY SERIES ‘THE HUMAN FACTOR’, DEBUTS WORLDWIDE TOMORROW – WATCH IT HERE

Photo Credit: Luigi Montebello and Davide Rinaldi
Created by the Italian public television channel RAI3, ‘The Human Factor’ is a series of eight 46-minute investigative journalism episodes that reveal how human rights are violated by authoritarian regimes, autocracies or even within democratic nations, where the most vulnerable and the minorities often face oppression.
Ultima Fermata - “The Last Ride” - is the final episode in the eight-part series and an immersive journey among the "last" on earth: U.S. citizens that experience homelessness who are victims of a system without safety nets and forced to live in extremely marginalized conditions. In “The Last Ride”, their stories are accompanied by the unmistakable voice of Tom Waits. With performances on acoustic guitar and piano as well as reading from his poem Seeds On Hard Ground, Waits provides a throughline to the landscape of faces and stories portrayed in the documentary. Airing today in Italy, “The Last Ride” was written and directed by Angelo Loy, Martino Mazzonis and Luigi Montebello for Il Fattore Umano - RAI Radiotelevisione Italiana and will be available worldwide tomorrow at the link below.
Watch “The Last Ride” Tomorrow, February 26 HERE
“The Last Ride” is a journey into the heart of American poverty, through four southern states of the U.S.—Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana—on public buses, the only means of transport accessible to the most disadvantaged. It is a path through forgotten communities, exposing a crisis of unimaginable proportions, but also to testify to the dignity and solidarity of those who resist, despite police violence, social stigma and the institutional neglect that seeks to relegate them to invisibility.
“I am an individual who is deeply concerned with the inequities as we all are, but ill equipped to solve any of them,” Waits admits. “I tell the world in the only way I know how: through my music. I don’t deal with politics or laws, and I don’t have answers to the big questions that concern us all. All I can do is try - through songs and poems - to inspire someone. I'm here to open up the window and open up our eyes. I guess a little bit, if I can.”

Today, Pachyman — the musical project of Puerto Rican-born, Los Angeles-based musician Pachy Garcia that’s amassed an international following on the back of a dub reggae sound that pays homage to genre masters like King Tubby and Scientist not only via technique and form but through a kindred pursuit of bleeding edge, boundary-expanding sonics — announces Another Place, his fifth album for ATO Records due out May 23.
Another Place is Pachyman’s most daring project to-date, one that builds upon its forebears by leaning into the idiosyncratic elements lurking beneath previous projects. In doing so, it synthesizes the myriad scenes that have recontextualized the methods and aesthetics of dub — from pioneering synth-pop weirdos like William Onyeabor and Yellow Magic Orchestra to Basic Channel’s amniotic dub techno — into a sound that, while still anchored in dub reggae’s glorious walls of sound, is undeniably Pachyman’s own.

Accompanying the album announcement is lead single “Hard To Part,” a skeletal drone-funk workout Pachy describes as “influenced by ESG and so many other sounds of that era that were cut from the same cloth as reggae and dub.” It’s an early contender for 2025’s best one note guitar riff.
The track doubles as a cowbell-addled ode to Pachy’s adopted hometown of Los Angeles, one made ever the more poignant in the wake of the city coming together to help those impacted by the tragic wildfires of January 2025. Of the “Hard To Part” music video, Pachy writes:
"i’ve learned much from los angeles and its inhabitants, many who are diaspora or migrants. we all come here for some reason, we all find ourselves shedding a past skin and having some sort of rebirth. it’s a city that embraces you even if you try to resist.
after seeing the fires nearly destroy the city, we decided to scrap the original 'hard to part' video idea and shoot a sort of love letter or homage to los angeles.
the locations featured in the video are all places that I frequented or have been part of my commute, places i’ve met people that became lifelong friends, or spots I went to decompress. the sunset dancing shot was taken at one of my favorite places to rest during rides along my most frequented cycling routes.
shot and directed by
the giraffe sisters
,
nicola
and
juliana
, two artists and los angeles natives.”
Recorded, as ever, in his basement studio 333 House, Another Place marks an artistic breakthrough for Pachy. “I was trying to understand who I am as a musician — not just operating in a distinct lineage but how I’ve metabolized and expanded upon it,” Pachy explains. “Who am I behind all of this? It’s a very personal, vulnerable journey. I wanted to build my own world and create these new connections in my brain, incorporating everything: vaporwave, chillwave, soul-jazz, James Brown, Kosmiche musik and krautrock, the driving repetition of drum n bass.”
Another Place delivers on this far-reaching vision. “Berlin” pairs a pastoral, Boards Of Canada-cribbing organ sound with the kind of obscured, textural percussion that might suit a Berghain techno night. “In Love” is a joyful, egg-melting-on-the-sidewalk haze in the vein of Washed Out or Neon Indian. And the Slits-inspired “False Moves” uncovers fresh nuance in what Pachy describes as “a working class, anti-establishment DNA” shared by dub and post-punk music.
Pachyman is preparing to take the alchemical, indelible sound of Another Place around the world. Beginning at the end of February, he’ll be embarking on headlining dates throughout New Zealand, Australia, Europe, and the UK. He’ll also be joining Darkside for select North American dates this spring. Full dates below — keep an eye out for more to be announced later this year.

Wet Leg Remixes Faux Real - Out Today
FAUX REAL AND WET LEG SHARE
"WALKING AWAY FROM MY DEMONS (WET LEG REMIX)”
VISIONARY ART-POP DUO ON TOUR IN NORTH AMERICA NOW
ACCLAIMED DEBUT ALBUM, FAUX EVER,
AVAILABLE EVERYWHERE NOW VIA CITY SLANG

Faux Real by Daniel Everett
“Faux Real’s music embodies both sides of their oxymoronic name. Indeed, Elliott and Virgile Arndt, the French-American brothers who make up Faux Real, craft music that is equal parts sugar-pop confection and warm-bodied blood…On the new album, the duo explore the expanse of their own philosophy, which they call ‘Faux Realism.’ It’s a theory that is ever-existential and which often veers into the meta…Whether it's existentialism or the toils of the biz, the brothers always know how to deliver a big message via a sweet infectious hook.”
– PAPER
“2024 Albums of the Year”
- BBC RADIO 6
“Arch art-pop of the highest order… Faux Real’s live performances involve the kind of crop-topped boyband choreography not seen since the 90s, along with stunts such as flutes being pulled out of trouser legs and a knowing helping of homoeroticism.
Unsurprisingly, they tend to steal the show at any festival they play.”
– THE GUARDIAN
“Faux Real combine strains of glam rock, punk, and electronic,
plus an inimitable sense of fashion, to create maximalism at every turn —
something that’s better to be seen to be believed.”
– ALTERNATIVE PRESS
“Straddling the line between serious and surreal, brothers Elliott and Virgile Arndt are creating a new strain of performance-art-pop-rock in their own mirror image.”
– DIY
Acclaimed alternative jesters, Faux Real are excited to share the Wet Leg remix of the fan-favorite single, “Walking Away From My Demons.” Consistently a highlight in their live show, Wet Leg reimagines the track into a whole new sonic experience.
"After we opened for Wet Leg on their first US tour in the fall of ‘22, we became fast friends. So when the chance to collaborate came up, it just felt like a no-brainer,” Faux Real explain. “Rhian’s deadpan verses play perfectly against the frantic energy of Josh’s nightcore rework, giving the clubby beat this cool confidence—‘I walk around my neighborhood, you’re looking down, I’m looking good’—like finally taking control over the title’s demons. Sometimes, the only way to shake off feelings of inadequacy is to just get up and go, however underprepared. Sow, reap, repeat.“

Known far and wide for their genre-bending, gravity-defying live performances, Faux Real – a.k.a. Los Angeles-based Franco-American brothers Virgile and Elliott Arndt – are currently bringing their singularly flamboyant and creatively daring live show to clubs across North America with their eagerly awaited North American headline tour, with a March 1 finale in New York City at new hotspot, Night Club 101.
“Walking Away From My Demons” is but one of the many highlights found on Faux Real’s acclaimed debut album, Faux Ever, available everywhere now via City Slang Records. Hailed by The Guardian as “a high-camp, whimsical collage of Euro-dance, perky Joe Jackson-era synthpop, Sparks-sized harmonies and melodrama, plus post-punk, electro, glam rock and more,” the album includes such singles as “Full Circle,” “Hi Tension,” “Love On The Ground,” “Rent Free,” and “Faux Maux,” all of which thrust Faux Real’s sultry, surreal, and unclassifiable sound towards a glossier pop horizon, favoring ultra-digital software instruments while showcasing their long-standing knack for hugely catchy vocal melodies.

Elliott and Virgile Arndt founded Faux Real in 2018, blending post-punk, glam rock, and fresh beats to fashion a truly inimitable musical experience. From their increasingly accomplished studio output to mesmerizing, unprecedented live performances, Faux Real invite the audience to join them an enthralling post-realist expedition through contemporary pop culture with razor-edged satire, inspired boy band choreography, and a charged sensuality that has fast earned them a fervent fan following that includes among their number such iconic stars as Duran Duran, Paramore, and Wet Leg. Now, with Faux Ever, Faux Real continue to gleefully ignore boundaries and barriers, assuring the journey is as exhilarating as the ultimate destination.
Faux Real celebrated the arrival of Faux Ever with a seemingly non-stop international live schedule that includes dates in the UK, Europe, and the US. Highlights include a variety of festival appearances, a special show supporting cumgirl8 at Paris, FR’s La Station (May 29), an EU/UK run alongside instrumental British quartet (and City Slang labelmates) Los Bitchos, and sold-out US headline performances at Brooklyn, NY’s Baby's All Right and Los Angeles, CA’s The Echo. In addition, this summer saw the duo featured on electropop icons Metronomy’s “Contact High” alongside Franco-Korean artist Miki. “I can’t detach myself from the song,” said Metronomy’s Joe Mount of the collaboration, I hear ‘Contact High’ and I think ‘wow I’m involved with this!’ I can listen to it again and again.”
