LAMPS SHARE FIRST TRACK FROM FORTHCOMING 'PEOPLE WITH FACES' ALBUM / OUT THIS FALL ON IN THE RED RECORDS

LAMPS SHARE FIRST TRACK FROM FORTHCOMING PEOPLE WITH FACES ALBUMRECORDED AND MIXED BY TY SEGALL LISTEN TO HORSE COW GOAT PIG DOG RELEASED THIS FALL ON IN THE RED RECORDS   These days, good news is hard to come by, but here’s some: Lamps, LA’s notoriously unprolific noise-merchant trio, are ready to release their spectacular fourth album called People With Faces on In The Red Records and share the first track today. Recorded and mixed by Ty Segall at Val’s, Lamps’ first recorded output since 2012’s landmark LP Under The Water, Under The Ground finds them breaking adventurous new terrain. I’d say they’ve matured, but I’d only say it behind their backs. Stalwarts Monty Buckles (guitar, voice, KEYBOARDS!!!) and Josh Erkman (drums, voice) double down on Lamps’ trademark cloak of effects-laden guitars and hammering drums, and new(ish) member Denée Segall jumps into the fray with her Poly Styrene wail and monolithic bass, adding depth both sonically and lyrically. Their trademark abrasiveness is s[ll present, but it’s burnished it into something richer, more layered. Don’t worry, it still kicks your head in. First indication that things have changed comes in the opener, Confirmed Frenchman. With its serpentne rhythm and Denée’s muted vocals, it sounds kinda like The Au Pairs, if the Au Pairs listened to a lot of Throbbing Gristle. From that point onwards, People With Faces careens maniacally and majestically between alt-fantasy screamers and boot-bottom dirt-rock scummery. Horse Cow Goat Pig Dog slams like a feminist peak-form Black Sabbath (if only), and Comedian is a jaunty, chilling serial killer rave up. G.N.A.T.S. updates the Lamps sound into something punishing and darkly humorous, with Erkman screaming that women’s magazines saved his life.
Worth noting is the inclusion of two covers that have been part of Lamps’ live show since Segall joined in 2015. The straighcorward and sinister take on Sexual Harassment’s I Need A Freak is skin-crawling background music for the worst date ever. And I Owe It To The Girls, by Floridian proto-no-wavers Teddy & The Frat Girls, twists the raw desperation of the original into a razor-sharp militant anthem. The cherry on top of this sweet parfait is the news that Lamps plan to tour in support of People With Faces. If you’ve been lucky enough to catch them live, you’ll know this is very good news indeed. See you in the pit..... KD. February 2020  FacebookIn The Red Records

new artist to check - O'Hara

O'Hara, the married duo of Laurence O'Hara and Denma O'Hara based between London and LA, released their first song "Angel" as a free download on Bandcamp today and the accompanying self-directed video. 2020's musical answer to the Beat Generation- piercing muted beats, soft lapping psych guitar & sparse synths, layered underneath two strong voices intertwined - elements of jazz, hip-hop, pysch and poetic delivery- entrancing individually and most powerful when they perform together. They have a project on the way and more to come.

CHAII's “Nobody Know” Video Crosses One Million Views + Song Prominently Featured in Netflix's 'The Old Guard'

CHAII“NOBODY KNOW” VIDEO CROSSES ONE MILLION VIEWS - WATCH HERESONG FEATURED IN CHARLIZE THERON NETFLIX FILM ‘THE OLD GUARD’ ‘LIGHTSWITCH’DEBUT EP FROM GENRE-BENDING NEW ZEALAND-BASED PERSIAN PRODUCER & RAPPER AVAILABLE NOW - LISTEN HERE CHAII - NOBODY KNOW (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO) Genre-bending Persian/New Zealand rapper CHAII released her debut Lightswitch EP last month via BMG / Black Lotus Records. The six-song release expresses her diverse creative powers and, along with the music, she released a bold visual EP showcasing footage from Oman to Joshua Tree. CHAII self-directed and produced all the EP videos, filmed ‘guerrilla style’ with her small crew of friends. The video for “Nobody Know,” recently featured in Charlize Theron’s new Netflix film The Old Guard, recently crossed one million views -- a huge feat in such a short time for a young artist. Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/uvMnIVDzufc
“I kept the video concept intentionally simple and playful,” notes CHAII. “I wanted it to match the freestyle energy of the song. It plays with the idea of leaving a mark. No-one gives a damn about trying to fit in these days, which is something I love about this current generation of music artists.”
A hypnotic thump announces the arrival of the Lightswitch EP’s second track “Nobody Know,” produced by CHAII and Soraya LaPread, and mixed by Sylvia Massy (Alanis Morrisette, Tool). CHAII drops a distinctive freestyle that was originally meant as a guide vocal, before an unreleased demo of the song landed on the desk of music supervisor Julia Michels who added the track to Netflix’s new Charlize Theron film The Old Guard. Watch the epic fight scene HERE
WATCH "NOBODY KNOW" IN NETFLIX'S 'THE OLD GUARD' HERE THE OLD GUARD Plane Fight Scene with Charlize Theron Inspiration for the Lightswitch visual EP came from CHAII’s journey of learning more about Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution. The resulting upheaval forced countless creative talents, including musicians, actors and artists, to leave Iran and relocate to California after their work was banned in their homeland. “I am part of the new generation of Iranian immigrants who are creating music outside of Iran,” notes CHAII. Stream the full Lightswitch EP here: https://chaii.lnk.to/LightswitchEP
In June, CHAII was announced as the first-ever Spotify RADAR artist in New Zealand. RADAR is the streaming giant’s global emerging-artist platform, which helped launch international stars including Lauv, King Princess, Jorja Smith, G-Eazy and Trippie Redd. And, despite her sudden arrival, CHAII’s music has already attracted the attention of Italian fashion brand FENDI for their FENDIVA campaign, mixed martial arts organization UFC for a Main Event UFC sync and, most recently, her song “South” has been added to Activision’s remaster of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2. No Joy shares "Dream Rats" feat. Alissa White-Gluz (Arch Enemy)

No Joy shares new track "Dream Rats" feat. Alissa White-Gluz of Arch Enemy - new album Motherhood out Aug. 21

Also join the band for a Motherhood listening party and Q&A today at 3pm EST via the Joyful Noise YouTube channel

STREAM - "Dream Rats" -
Streaming Services

No Joy releases the latest single “Dream Rats” from their forthcoming album Motherhood. The track features frontperson and principal songwriter Jasamine White-Gluz’s sister, Alissa, of deathcore supergroup Arch Enemy. “Dream Rats” crams in synth choir, blast beats, cowboy leads, and signal-jammed shredding into a radio-friendly three and a half minutes. Motherhood, is out on August 21st via Joyful Noise / Hand Drawn Dracula.

Listen/Share: No Joy - “Dream Rats"

Speaking on the track Jasamine White-Gluz says, “I've never collaborated musically with my sister before. When we were kids we would sing and play music together but as we've both become adults and touring musicians we've never had a chance to work together. This is the heaviest song on this record so it felt fitting to have her on there. There is something special about her being on this album, specifically because it's an exploration of family and motherhood."

For No Joy’s first full length in five years, Jasamine White-Gluz took what she learned from
synthesis, reincorporated guitars, and produced an album that is not a departure from No Joy’s early shoegaze, but a stylistically omnivorous expansion that ekes into trip hop, trance and nu-metal. Motherhood is the culmination of years composing outside of her comfort zone, and a return to DIY recording with a leveled-up expertise in production.

WIRE [Announce] pinkflag news - People In A Film - Collectors Offers & Live Streaming

T-shirts At a customer request we have added a new variant to the T-shirts - the Pink Flag design on a white shirt. As previously mentioned these full colour photographic designs are a different process to the usual silk-screen type and can be produced in quite small quantities so we are using this as a way to see if these designs on white shirts will be of interest. We should also now have a stock of all sizes (S-3xl) in the black shirts. It is relatively fast to produce these items and we can respond to customer requests if we feel that the item requested has a market.
People In A Film - Collectors Offers & Live Streaming There have been some new collectors items added to the funding page for the next stage of ths project. We have relatively few channels available to make these kind of things available so if you are interested & have the means the offers are there now.

Hovvdy share "I'm Sorry," new single co-produced by Andrew Sarlo (Big Thief, Bon Iver)

HOVVDY SHARE NEW SINGLE "I'M SORRY"
CO-PRODUCED BY ANDREW SARLO (BIG THIEF, BON IVER)
Photo Credit: Johnna Henry & Mallory Taylor
"Taylor and Martin are at their finest here... The duo's third album is a nostalgic indie-pop rumination on suburban teenhood that thrums with hopeful energy." - Pitchfork
"Hazy and delicate, very sweet inward facing music." - NPR
"Hovvdy's music is the sonic equivalent of a hug. Hovvdy have always had an uncanny ability to create a comforting effect with their songs, even when those songs are about fear, anxiety and their own personal shortcomings."
-The FADER
Today, Austin, TX duo Hovvdy have released "I'm Sorry," a new single co-produced by Andrew Sarlo. Stacking on Will Taylor's growing pop sensibility, "I'm Sorry" carves a beat around the artist's hollowed-out, echoing vocals. Jumbled feelings in flux swirl a cloud of granular electronic ambience. "I'm sorry," he sings. "Going under the water again."
Of the song and stylistic venture, Taylor says: "'I'm Sorry' is about the mixed emotions when a relationship has to change or end. Grief and relief. We were excited to pull the guitars back to let the vocals and ambient textures shine. The clank and swing of the programmed drums create a resonance and energy that brings it all together."
Last month the band released another Sarlo-produced single, "Runner," which Paste said "finds the slowcore duo taking more risks with a fun rhythm and sonic buoyancy," and Stereogum called "extremely pretty."Together as Hovvdy, Charlie Martin and Will Taylor hold together sonic memories. Warm, wistfulcaptures cohered on the Austin duo's third album,  Heavy Lifter , less than a year ago. To follow, abalanced blend of remote and collaborative songwriting continued in their Texas homes.

Lo Tom (David Bazan, Jason Martin, TW Walsh & Trey Many) shares new song, announces Kickstarter for LP2

Lo Tom (David Bazan, Jason Martin, TW Walsh & Trey Many) shares new song, announces Kickstarter for LP2

STREAM: "Start Payin'" -
Streaming Services / Kickstarter

Lo Tom is back at it again... still four old friends, who've known each other for 20+ years, playing in random bands, both together and apart:

David Bazan (Pedro the Lion, Headphones, solo work)
Trey Many (Velour 100, Starflyer 59, His Name is Alive)
Jason Martin (Starflyer 59, Bon Voyage)
TW Walsh (Pedro the Lion, The Soft Drugs, solo work)

They made a self-titled debut and released it on Barsuk in 2017. It got some good coverage, including these highlights:

"Lo Tom's debut is a serious rock 'n' roll record that doesn't take itself too seriously." -NPR

"While the “let’s just get together, press record and see what happens” schtick can be overly romanticized and often guilty of delivering diminishing returns, Lo Tom proves that in the right hands, it can produce pure musical magic." -PASTE

"It’s pretty and powerful and worth hearing" -Stereogum

"“Covered Wagon” is one of Bazan’s most surreal and spirited views of American cultural decline, while “Bad Luck Charm” reduces the complicated narrative of his masterwork Control into a single snapshot." -Pitchfork

They played a tiny handful of shows, a few of them even sold out. They had a bunch of fun. When that was done, they all went back home.

But the ideas kept coming... they traded song snippets, got together to work out arrangements, and then converged in the spring of 2019 to finish tracking in sunny Orange County CA.

The result is bigger and darker. Lo Tom had some self-imposed rules on the first record... just two guitar tracks and minimal overdubs on all songs. They kept it simple and sparse. That all went out the window this time around. LP2 is stacked with multi-tracked guitars, ambient synths, and layered vocals.

A heavier sound, with heavier lyrics to match... all of the songs deal with debt, both financial and personal, and the crushing weight those things bring over time. Yet somehow, Lo Tom's tongue-in-cheek approach still shines through the darkness.

Lo Tom and Barsuk amicably parted ways after the first album, so the band is putting out this record on their own, reaching out to fans to help with production and manufacturing through a Kickstarter campaign that starts today, Monday August 10th. The album will be released digitally on Sept. 4, 2020.

The first single is coincidentally named "Start Payin'"

Lo Tom is:

D Bazan – vocals, bass

T Many – drums

J Martin – guitar

TW Walsh – guitar, synth, bgvs
