Still too early for any type of opinion, not sure who the main characters are yet.

At this point, the action is actually happening. I feel like this book could have been 50% the length and I wouldn't have missed any significant part of the story. Can't wait to see how it finishes.

The progression of character interaction has increased and some more conflict has started. Not sure where any of that conflict will lead. Still definitely a character focused book, almost to a fault. Not super engaged but as a completionist I'm pushing forward, albeit in a much better pace from about 25% finished.

Somewhat satisfying ending. Big questions left unanswered unless I just missed them, perhaps the questions just relate to a plot device rather than actual plot. I was never fully invested in the characters so I didn't need the ending to bring me complete catharsis. Solid trilogy, would recommend for YA fantasy lovers, not engaging enough for first timers though. 2.5 out of 5 stars.

Very good so far, but is this because it's in my echo chamber that the "grit" mentality should be fully embraced.

Not a ton of plot moving so far, decent character work but nothing really driving plot with the exception of 1 murder but there hasn't real "on screen" work to be done in solving it. Plenty of questions to be answered but I don't feel a overwhelming compelling event that's driving the story forward. More of characters inspection of themselves. Right now, solid 3 stars.

It's been a while since book 1 so hopefully it won't be an issue trying to recall things.
