Sometimes you read a paragraph and you just have to stop and appreciate the art of language. The paragraph beginning "I want to remind her..." is one example. Wow.

Oh lord, not the dreaded "introduce the characters" chapter. Show, don't tell! ugh!

Oh, middle book syndrome, thou art a heartless b*tch. Page 180, more than 1/2 done, and what have I learned? Benson wants to escape. Seriously, there's your summary of 180 stinkin' pages. That's it.

I love Karen Hesse. This story is dead boring, but her phrases are gorgeous. "My skin is wet rubber." "Rain slides its chill fingers through my hair." Beautiful! The pics are nice, too.

Holy crap this book is terrifying. Dystopia tends to be creepy and scary, but this is so realistic and so plausible it's horrifying. I love it! :)

as if i needed more proof that old people are evil...but wow, she kind of beats you over the head with it.

It's a wee bit blasphemous, super funny, and his favorite hockey team is the Columbus BlueJackets. Definitely a good read so far! :)

I don't think I particularly like this book. She's an idiot, the plot is very slow, and the most interesting character is a cat. Also, the chapter titles are spoilers. I may not finish this...

I don't know how it is in CA, but in OH you can't suspend kids for something they do out of school. Call the cops, yes; suspend? no.

Sci-fi...definitely sci-fi. Categorization complete.

And then she drops the f-bomb in class and the teacher laughs about it? WHAT?! Kids, do not try this at school; you will be punished.

Okay, and another stereotype just came up seconds later. I've been teaching for 7 years--we don't call our students by last name. She would be Janelle, not "Miss Tenner."

whoa, stereotype alert! three Asian names in a row in her AP class. Han, Le, and Zhou. Really?

I don't know how to categorize this book yet. My inner librarian is hoping to sort the confusion out by the end.

If you like Michael Grant's "Gone" series, give this book a try. Love the MC's very "teen" way of speaking. :)

"My cynicism had been known, from time to time, to get me into accidental trouble." What a great relatable line for teens today!
