I am quite ambivalent about Bahram. He is fine in many way, but he lost a lot of respect from me when he is hunting wild ass. He sees one ass fight of his male competition and then mate with the female. Bahram smiles to observe the ass's triumph, and then he kills it right in flagrante delicto. That was just bad bad bad all around.

I'm a bit in love with this story.

I am quite familiar with the northern European tradition. I am often amazed at how familiar the Shahnameh seems. Right nod I am marvelling at the dragons in the text. None of this wise benevolent Chinese silliness. Ferdowsi's dragons want to kill you, just as they do in real life.

I am amazed at how "European medieval" it seems. The cultural similarities are quite noticeable. I have already commented on the similarity of feel between this and the Old Testament.

Seyavash is my hero. He is, so far at least, truly noble and worthy. I think I might be in love.

King Kovus and Rostam -- an exciting story.

I am impressed with how much like the Old Testament the religious sentiments are.

Just finished reading the defeat of the demon-king Zahhak by Feraydun. Exciting stuff.

Professor Quirrell is teaching Harry how to lose. This book is amazing.

Finished Book 1. I like the translation, though if you strung all the lines together it would be indistinguishable from prose.

I love it.

Finished Wisdom. I had never noticed before that the author seems to believe in pre-existence of the soul.

I don't care for Fables, but I do like this.

Finished Baruch. A few missing punctuation marks, as usual, but otherwise a fine translation.

I am enjoying it very much.

This is the third (semi) independently published book in a row I am reading. I liked the other two also.

I'm having to work out just why he annoys me so much. I understand that part of it is discomfort with having the sins of my people pointed out accurately, but that's not the problem. I am aware of that and understand it. What annoys me is... I'm still working on that.

I think I am white by Coates really is black. Blackness is real; whiteness is a figment of the imagination designed solely to oppress. -- I think this is not the real world.

I know, I know, but still... Mr. Coates, your "body" is beginning to annoy me.
