I am not a fan of the cover art. I would have avoided the book based on it.

I made the mistake of reading this while halfway through "Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality." That book has planted so many images and idea in my mind that returning to strictly canonical HP is rather a jar. But I am certainly enjoying Cursed Child.

I had started reading this for a group, but the group failed me, so I want to quit, but I would feel guilty I think ;) so I will continue, but slowly.

Listening via hoopla, via my wonderful library. The audiobook is great because Poundstone reads it herself, and I love her voice.

I have finished the poem itself. I read it for historical theological purposes rather than as literature. Theologically, I do not like it at all.

I can't do too much tension in books or movies, and I can see that this is heading toward difficult territory for me, but countering the tension is some very good writing, so I am enjoying it so far.

The creepiest thing has been something so small, when Jack says that Millie's favorite color is red. That one sentence was set up so perfectly, it made my blood go cold.

Finished Matthew. Just about the first time that I became aware of the translation. A few passages, most notably, (27:54) "The captain and soldiers... said, 'Truly, this mas was Son of God.'" Why no article? Was that to avoid the uncomfortable "A son of God"? Otherwise, I am still appreciating this translation.

I had no idea Hemingway was so funny. "There was a star in a box on his sleeve because he was a major." That made me laugh out loud. "Our children will probably have beastly temperatures." That bit of dialogue is very funny. H is really a much better writer than any of his spoofers.

It's amazing how much this guy writes like a parody of Hemingway. But seriously, I now understand why he is considered so great. He's not really my style, but Oh my word it's effective and quite beautiful.

I was impressed by the idea of Arawn keeping only the good parts of a person to make whatever comes next. It brought to mind 1 Cor 3:11-15.
