funny story so i neglected this and the hold went back to the library because some poor soul actually wanted to read it after me and so i clowingly placed another hold right away like a clown in a clown way and guess what. i got it back on my silly little library ebook app literally not even 24h later. will be attempting to actually finish it with my clown boots on

happy to report the writing is still atrocious, except the characters are now 19-20 years old, not 16-17. how does this still surprise me is a whole separate issue that we need not get into here

this not making any sense at all i love it. the mcs names are anastasia, mikhail and nicolas romanov and they are gods in the post-flare world in alaska. major nevernight vibes with a tinge of personally tailored russian vengeance—horrible, in a word, and also very familiar

it's like. her mother is not evil. she is like. she is sick in many ways, not evil. but the way every aspect of physical, psychological, emotional abuse is casually woven into someone's life is horrifying, more so because it is done by a mother, by her "love" that has gone many times over the healthy limit.

horrific experience, this book is. like reading a contemporary psychological gothic horror novel, except it's a biography. incredibly well-articulated, too, and clearly battled with and thought through. it comes through that she is doing better now.

the horrors of this silly ugly book are almost worse than those of the real world so i find comfort in them
