So much of this book is just Fangirl wish fulfillment. The Caribbean-pirate setting doesn’t even matter after she gets to the Sunken City.

The plague beliefs in the 1300s sounds a little familiar to today’s pandemic…

I swear Lisa has all these really great tear jerker happy moments for the first half of this book because the second half is just all tragic sobbing

Parts of this are way more terrifying/scary to think about than I ever did reading Laura's books as a kid

Stories live and breathe everywhere around us. Your house is full of items and each item contains a story. Your life is full of happenings and each one is wrapped in story. Relationships, jobs, journey, missteps, and mistakes.
