About the right balance of principles/theory and cases/photos to illustrate. Opening stresses influence by Christopher Alexander’s Pattern Language (still haven’t read). Good stuff so far!

Hit a patch of very short chapters, that, like cross cutting in a film, helps increase suspense as the inevitable approaches. Lots of threading. Makes me wonder about the process of writing as much as the content itself.

I have no idea who these artists are but the writing is great.

Some good bits; more for inspiration than how to achieve or deeply understand—a sampler. I wish there were more ideas or the ones presented were fleshed out more. Pictures point out key points of case homes. Good aspirations: challenges reader to consider ambitiously simple living in sophisticated architecture. Sometimes barren households make me wonder how they cope with actual living activities.
