I really, really wish that Jordan had come up with a better name than fucking “Darkfriends.” Shit is painfully corny and unimaginative.

The scene with that beatnik gypsy kid pissing Perrin off in front of Egwene is painfully reminiscent of when my fellow suburban/rural shithead friends and I would cross social circles with the cool bourgeoisie downtown kids. One of the girls from our side would inevitably start liking one of them and we’d all get pissed and jealous.

Finally trying this one...not bowled over yet but the writing is pleasant, the characters interesting, and it has a nice wholesome feeling to it. But who’s on the cover? I assume it’s Moiraine and Lan, but why is Lan in samurai armor and why is Moiraine a dwarf?

The whole “evil raven with a baby’s head that plays with its minions’ prostates to encourage them” has to be one of the fucking weirdest things I’ve ever encountered. Every time that fucker shows up I just feel super uncomfortable.

For like the five hundredth time I’m struck by how much Kellhus reminds me of a creepier Paul Atreides...but somehow less likable. Unlikable in the best and most captivating way, of course. Also, I can’t remember another book with this much miserable boning. If these characters aren’t brooding alone they’re brooding while mushing genitalia with someone.

If the scene where Maud wakes up and hears the artillery on the Somme all the way from southern England is true to history that’s fucking insane.

This is already so much better than my experience with Pillars of the Earth it's making me want to maybe try that one again. Also, I think Follett's original title of Nobles Be Fuckin' was a little more original than the one he settled on.

Hoping a re-read of this will break me out of the horrid reading slump I've been in. Jezal's chapters are still interminable. It'd be a different story if Abercrombie wrote him a little funnier (like a fantasy Flashman...how awesome would that be?)

Wanted something like IT to read in anticipation of the movie but I've read that book like three times. This is good so far!

So no one would call Ellroy's stuff light-hearted, but this has to be one of his funniest books yet. The scenes with Crutch and Mesplede spraying wax on the ground at a Humphrey's campaign rally so he has to do "frug and wah-watusi moves to stay upright," Crutch feeding a parrot Fritos until it bites his hand and flies away, and Hoover suspecting Archie Bell & the Drells of being a criminal cartel...fucking LOL.

The dialogue the dudes in the Club are always yelling is divinely stupid and hilarious.

This book is so fucking long it's literally painful to read due to ridiculously tight binding and words that are printed right up to the spine. Aside from that this has been great fun so far, with plenty of The Good Shit.

Oh man, I got so stoked when the Malazans showed up. Also, the Redmask subplot is awesome.

Love the combination of grotesque, base hrills and wonderful prose in Willocks' stuff. Kinda like if Botticelli only painted porn.

Thought some of my bookworm friends would find this story funny...so I’m in my local used bookstore prowling the shelves when I suddenly hear this woman shout “I HAVE AN ANNOUNCEMENT TO MAKE. THE UNITED STATES HAS FALLEN TO THE TYRANNY OF WESTERN EUROPE.” Then in a much softer voice she asks an employee “Do you have Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee?” You can’t make this kind of shit up, folks.

I'm getting the feeling that reading these stories right before falling asleep is a fucking terrible idea. Fuck it, a little (read: shitload of) existential dread never hurt anyone...right?

These stories are almost too good at imparting a horrid, inescapable sense of dread...it’s almost like if you read too much of this stuff it could actually fuck up your chemical balance.

Well, I certainly won’t look at a puking person the same way again...

This shit is TASTY so far! Space opera, horror and mystery all mixed in with great momentum and no boring hard sci-fi bullshit to slow it down whatsoever. As a dumb person, I really can’t stress enough how awesome it is that Corey doesn’t let academic stuff about gravity, light, etc. slow the story down at all.

These books get, like, fuckin' far OUT, man.
