Oh. my. koalas. I'm finally done with the first section and the stuff I was worried there'd be too much of (more Columbus bio than Hernando bio). Ideally, this will magically become riveting, but I have a feeling the poetic wax style is going to make it a magical slog.

I understand wanting to cover The Book of Prophecies, since it was Columbus's way of justifying and explaining his interest in the New World, as well as being an influence on Hernando. But damn, if it was done so MINUTELY. Hopefully once we're done with Hernando's early life (i.e. before Columbus dies), it'll get better and way more interesting than 30 pages theologically mulling over Columbus's choices of quotation.
