slogging through the religious stuff. in hindsight, should have known better from the title of the book. Christian themes are horrific and tedious for me.

got this book for free from the McDonald's Monopoly (peely peely) and i'm in the garden in the sunshine giving it a go. it's... pretty boring so far, i'm not gonna lie. tired bisexual PI who likes whisky and has daddy issues. bland writing. unengaging characters that could be replaced by furniture. i'll keep reading until the sun goes behind my house and leaves the garden in shadows.

four chapters in and already the writing style and the amount of weird made up words are starting to piss me off.

"i'll just finish off this chapter and head to bed nice and early!"
it's five chapters later, it's nearly one in the morning. it's going to be one of THOSE books.

i think i would have been happier if Lei had spent another chapter or so at home, establishing more of a relationship with her father and Tien for the reader. they sort of feel like nebulous concepts to me, rather than characters.

it's an uncomfortable read so far. but i was warned of this. i'm into the worldbuilding and the prose, and i'm digging the first person present tense narration.

look, i love this story and i love these cats, but good grief literally nothing good happens in this book and it's burning me out so badly.
