It seems to be the most accessible intro to ethnomethodology yet. This, sadly, does not mean that it is easy. The first chapters are rather accessible, the later one do have the discinpline’s typical comma-chain phrases and technical vocabulary (which sometimes is explained)

I started reading this because Alan Kay praised the book. So far I am not at the directly Kay (PARC) related parts but I got to learn about the connections of the cognitive revolution in psychology (vs. behaviourism) and its relation to computing in the 50s.

Some stuff it cites, I know, some stuff I can put on to-read-lists.

Slow progress. But I learned about the downfall of unions in France.

Memes and being frustrated with design.

its very long… But don't fear, early on there is a useful table comparing the three spirits of capitalism.

starts with human nature and their relation to morals. Not what I expected.

pages do not show, need to wait for the ereader to update. It will be reading dewey for now, I guess.

This is one of the less relevant insights but I like that she talks about self-help books without looking down them or people who like them.

Could be a bot more focussed, but it is very interesting.

Having a blast with this one. Much easier to understand than Garfinkel’s style (I know its there for a reason, but still)

So far best introduction to Ethnomethodology aside of Abels much shorter chaptert in his "Interaktion, Identitat, Prasentation"

finding gold and the complexities of metal detectors, cars and wider family.

Fun to read. Some parts of what you learn early on (monsters!) make more sense later.
