Books about "THE human consciousness" and how it is different from animals’ are always a bit sus BUT that one was referred to by some anthropologists I like to read (one 90s situated person and David Graeber) so I give it a go.

"Many (though not all) developers feel that if too much help is given to newcomers, it will undercut their ability to prove their worth and intelligence within a group that values precisely this sort of performance of self-reliance."

After having read his how-to-learn-Jazz-Piano book I expected more stuff I did not entirely grasp, complete with sheet music and hand postures I could not grasp entirely either (since I do not play piano).
Now, this is actually written in a style that I like more and I have an idea how breakout works and about computer games in general. Sudnow for the non-jazz-pianist masses!

Nice section on hackercons. Overall this book feels better than "two bits" to me (though this is probably more a matter of taste)

Some Ethnomethodology-style jargon, but overall pretty readable. Not exciting, but I guess that’s what you get when reading a book where someone describes, in detail, how they learn to play piano and move their hands when doing so.

There are a lot of passages that sound very ironic to me, no wonder the author claims again and again that it is not ironic; then again, that’s exactly what an ironic person would do.

…and brackets are back. How, actually did the set the double-crossed-round brackets? Special character? They are not part of unicode, it seems.

The tutorial experiments chapters starts far easier to read than the rendering theorems chapter ended. It also has less (),[] and <>

OK, there is a whole somewhat inconsistent language of brackets.

the language of old is insufficient, lets redefine words with redefined words… (would it not be more ethnomethodological to let words be defined by exercises the reader needs to do?)
