I am really enjoying how low fantasy this is compared to most everything else that I read.

No chosen one troping either so far the main characters are just a mapmaker and a gravedigger and they don't appear to be anything more so far

So far I'm really enjoying the start to this series. Reminds me quite a lot of the Grishaverse trilogy's first book with how the various Asha are described and portrayed and how the training has been going.

Both have a very similar hazing scene as well

A strong opening half with a very unique setting and interesting worldbuilding. Marred a bit by some confusion regarding names and positions of the large assortment of main characters, a bit of a slow midsection and too much humor in the dialogue for my personal tastes. The building relationship between Gideon and Harrow is very enjoyable to read

First section complete for a book club discussion. A bit of a slow, uninteresting start but looks like it's going to ramp up going forward now that the setup is finished

30 minutes. Already watched anime content so nothing new to me

This is a really thrilling, exciting read so far. I flew through the first quarter of the story for my bookclub in one sitting!

Baru is an extremely intelligent and calculating character and watching her navigate the deep political machinations and intrigue going on in the story is awesome. There are so many questions and subplots going on that I can't wait to see where they go and get answers to the many questions

So far the concept of the Greatcoats as an organization is very intriguing and the main characters we are introduced to so far are mostly unique and interesting. Plenty of good conflict and battle so far.

The backstory and history has been very good but the world building was a bit lacking. I'm definitely excited in continuing as the setting seems to be fairly unique compared to most fantasy

Hmm...I'm not sure how I feel about this one so far. I don't know what I was expecting but I thought I knew more about this book then I actually do.

The worldbuilding and history is fairly interesting but a fifth of the way through and it feels like nothing is happening. At least it's a nice quick read

I'm enjoying the story but it would probably help if I had read the original beauty and the beast first so I knew the true story.

Definitely my least favorite start to one of the books in the trilogy. While I'm enjoying reading about the combined group's growth and interactions together, the book feels very fast paced and almost rushed while at the same time nothing is really happening.

I'm over a third of the way through so far and there has basically been no story progression which is worrying for the conclusion of the series

So close to finishing. I am adoring this book so much. Can't wait to read the sequels

I am LOVING this book so far. Quickly on the fast track to my favorite book of the year.

Listening to it on audiobook and I'm not having trouble keeping my attention on it so that's another win
