We start following Anders life at the Wolf academy as he meets all sorts of new people and starts learning all new things. Amie has done a really good job making the Academy feel like a real school and the students there are for the most part very kind and welcoming.

We also learn more about the history of the wolves and dragons and start seeing possible cracks in what is supposedly the truth

Starting to learn more about the ice wolves and how their mini society functions and learns and weilds their power.

Anders is having a tough time due to his upbringing and lack of self confidence. I wonder what the pivotal moment will be that allows him to break through his own hangup.

Introduced to a lot of new side characters who are all enjoyable and interesting to read about

Started off in the beginning as a fairly cliche orphan child origin story. I find the large sprawling and diverse city of Holbard to be a very interesting setting.

I am looking forward to learning more about the shapeshifting and magical powers and abilities in the universe. Not necessarily unique so far but I feel like there is a lot of potential in exploring the dynamics.

I'm having a great time with this book so far. I adore the main characters, Silas and Deacon, so much! I don't know why but their interactions are just great.

I think the general worldbuilding, history and setting is pretty interesting and rarely done. The story has a clear goal and is working towards it instead of meandering.

Chris does a great job with painting the world and atmosphere

I am already in love with this book! I really like Amora who feels very strong and confident and in control which is a nice change of pace for a main character. Adalyn pains an extremely vivid and beautiful picture of the world and the people and things inside of it. And the magic system and Island system of the Kingdom is very interesting to me and I'm excited to learn more about everything.

I'm a little frustrated at the fact that now that the story is just about finished I'm really enjoying what's going on. This would have been a 5 star book if the entire story had been this good.

Drama between many characters. People are fighting and making up. There is communication, there is growth and friendship and love. The plot has a clear direction and it is advancing. There is even some world building!

I'm really starting to enjoy Elliot the further we get. His personal growth is really incredible to see.

A very unexpected plot twist happened that totally shocked me. Maybe if I was paying closer attention to names I would have seen it coming. Unfortunately it really didn't have much of an impact that I've seen.

The problem is this story just isn't going anywhere. I can't even tell you what the general plot is!

Starting to really get into it now. Moved slightly away from the plot and story and instead focused more on summer and school relationships, friendships and drama (literally in the case of a school play).

Elliot is doing some serious growing and we learn a lot more about his past and childhood. Pretty heartbreaking stuff.

I'm still absolutely in love with a lot of the side characters who get better and better!

Definitely picking up a bit. More action, more romance, more character development finally. Elliot is starting to grow up, Luke is becoming a more complex character and the brief but satisfying romance that sprung up was cute and enjoyable while it lasted.

I am still bothered at how Elliot gets away with all his antics and insubordination without any consequences. Still lacking any real world building

Story is picking up a bit now. I'm amazed at how this trio of children continue to break rules and go against their military superiors' commands without suffering any punishment, including drugging their commanding officers. Elliot is starting to wake up and see the real world the way it is instead of his naive idealistic view. I adore Luke's family, especially his sister and mother. They're such great characters

Starting to pick up the pace a little bit. Introducing more fantasy races and more conflicts between the races as a whole and the individual people within the border guard training camp.

I still find the MC to be insufferable and arrogant but the rest of the more important characters are growing on me and starting to show layers and depth to their personalities.

Still no interesting worldbuilding yet unfortunately

Chose this book from a list of recommendations for the r/Fantasy Bingo Card.

I'm not really feeling it so far. I understand the MC is a 13 year old boy but I find him incredibly unlikable. He comes into a new world and immediately shits all over everything going on there thinking he knows better then everyone else.

In addition the world doesn't really feel all that magical or interesting so far.

I'm having a great time with this one. The author does a great job of describing characters and the scenery

I wasn't really expecting much when I started this but a 'Weird West Sci-Fantasy' is a great description for it. All of the violence, sex and desperation you'd expect from the Wild West with the interesting world building, aliens and changes due to the Sci-Fi elements.

Just curious - How do you guys decide on what book you want to read next with a large to-read list?

I'm usually always working on a series but tend to have to wait in between books for the library so I end up picking titles at random.
