PART FOUR - IN THE REALM OF THE UNFLESHED

These are just so goddamn easy to pick up and fall into. And FILLED with just the most wonderful words and dialogue.

“You’re singing a solo and I don’t want to make it a duet”.

As much as I absolutely adore Raymond Burr and Barbara Hale (and William Hopper besides!) I now can only hear Rhys, Juliet Rylance, and Chris Chalk as Perry, Della, and Paul.

I have to give this back to the library soon but I’m already incredibly charmed and intrigued by this. I don’t think I’ll be able to stand not finishing it for long. (Also I know it’s slightly lame to be reading two separate Kings at the same time, but I’m justifying it by saying it’s a totally different sector of his output and also because I am going into it completely blind. I LOVE READING)

THE LADY OF SHADOWS

Firstly, this is one of the rare occasions where pairing your lead up with a literal child is kind of amazing because Reacher already thinks like a weird child anyway so it’s crazy fun. Also this one’s plot is basically “What If Jack Reacher Was Dropped Into A More Openly Evil Yellowstone/Dutton Family?” And it RULES. Reading him navigate whole other ecosystems is so, so fun always.

Holy shit when these thing kick off, BOY howdy do they kick the fuck off.

“What happened a year and a half ago?” he asked. “Why did he stop?”…
“He went to prison,” she said.
“For beating up on you?”
“In TEXAS?” she said. She laughed, just a yelp, like a short cry of pain. “Now I KNOW you’re new here.”


Slightly surreal reading about Reacher talking about a place not even 3 hours away from me.

“All life relies on the death of others, one way or another. One must merely make the best of the moment, I suppose.”

This is VERY GOOD Second Doctor stuff.
