Christopher is on page 144 of 224 of Treason of the Heart: From Thomas Paine to Kim Philby
Pretty much just a list of noteworthy Britons who preferred other nations over Britain. Mildly entertaining and informative.

Christopher is on page 9 of 280 of How the Catholic Church Built Western Civilization
Reading this as a challenge against someone on fb who claims that the Catholic Church Built Western Civilization. I am still in the old-fashioned, Dark Ages camp. After chapter one, I am still not convinced.

Christopher is on page 341 of 384 of Njal's Saga
This is the best book I have ever read. I cannot stand that it is almost over, I just want to hug it and kiss it and never let it go.

whenever I read a saga I am always struck by the recurring theme of gossip. Everybody in Iceland seems to know everything about everybody else down to who owes whom what.

Christopher is on page 401 of 544 of The Intellectual Life of the British Working Classes
So very slow reading to my mother, a few pages each day. But it is an enjoyable work to read slowly, for going too quick would probably diminish its impact.

Christopher is finished with The Epic of the Crusades
The period of Baldwin I and Baldwin II were so charmingly enjoyable to read that I regret the conclusion of their lives; next up: Baldwin III.

Very interesting, very enjoyable read; not dry at all, filled with romantic anecdotes and dashing adventure

Christopher is on page 95 of 220 of The Origin of the Family, Private Property and the State
This is a fun read, but I am having a hard time taking it too seriously. Such must be the case whenever anything is read that was written by a noted dogmatist, for the dogmatic will always sacrifice Truth for Dogma.

While I do agree with a great deal of what he says, I also find some of it to be rather childish or outdated. Indeed, this book is very, very much the product of the times in which it was written, having been published in 1930.

Christopher is on page 75 of 182 of To Have or to Be? The Nature of the Psyche
Working slowly at this one, a section or two every couple days. It is very enjoyable and provides fodder for a great deal of contemplation, and as such I believe that a slow reading is optimal.

I am just trying to rush through this and get on to the next. While I loved The Golden Ass, I cannot stand Robert Graves's style in this one. "Assegai"? Really? Good God, man, this is ancient Rome not Scramble-era Africa!
