Still one of my FAVORITE favorite books!

Quite skimmable.

Skimming.

I'm really struggling with this one. I'm not particularly invested in the main character. Yes, she wants to get away, something something necromancy, oppression beyond death... etc. etc. So of course she hates it and wants to escape. That much would be obvious without reading any of the book. The first several chapters have just been belaboring a point that's already abundantly clear.

WOOHOO! Here we go.

Forget Dora. Lady Carroway is suddenly and surprisingly fantastic! WOOOO!

I'm REALLY having to make allowances for Dora's self-contradictory behavior. Her cousin is supposedly one person she actually cares about, and yet she repeatedly does things that cause her difficulty, while not apparently having made any attempt (in more than a decade) to learn how to avoid doing that.

Hm. I'll be interested watch this play out. I can understand the lack of fear or shame causing difficulty for a while, but by the time Dora becomes an adolescent, if she doesn't also lack intelligence, she ought to be aware that there are patterns of behavior that people are expected to follow, and unpleasant consequences for those who don't. So. We'll see...

The trust see-saw is running on overdrive. I'm skimming even more than before.

I'm glad Piper is used to being bossed around. Ugh. Brendan is a tool.
