Syenite and Alabaster’s plotline is really the best they’re both so done with each other and it’s amazing

why is Alina at her most interesting when she’s threatening to disembowel several people

why would I read this book when I could get punched in the face and it’d feel the same

this book is great but you know what would be even better? an August-and-Kate buddy cop movie. two hours of Kate asking “can we kill him?” and August looking at her like he’s considering eating her soul right then and there

yes I just listened to this much of this audiobook in one sitting, and no I don’t love it as much as I wanted to and I am emo as fuck about it

i relate to all of these characters on a spiritual level because they are all Doin It For The Aesthetic and honestly? that’s me

this book is weird because it kind of reads like a declaration against colonialism, but it's not trying to be, it's just recounting such horrifying events that it ends up being such. also i kind of totally understand why postcolonial theorists hate this so much rip

update: I still can't believe I never saw hype for this. it's got such a deeply Me vibe and such a strong thematic core, and also... queer afrofuturism. come on, y'all, obsess over this with me !!

this is DELIGHTFUL. the setting descriptions are absolutely stunning [and I am not usually one for setting so this is such a high standard] and the two girls already have so much great tension [but it’s not overdone at ALL which can be so easy to do] and I basically adore the lead. I just love this. oh my god.
