In all those stories about people who sold their souls to the devil, I never quite understood why the devil was the bad guy, or why it was okay to screw him out of his soul. They got what they wanted: fame, money, love, whatever--though usually it turned out not to be what they really wanted or expected. Was that the devil's fault?

So far...emphasis on "so far," this is rabidly derivative but still entertaining.

Library book=free=why not?

Let me tell you what I think. These television people want lonely roads and colorful characters with goddamn purple sagebrush and sunsets because they've done the amber waves of grain and ice roads to fucking death.

It was supposed to be the triumph of the first woman president of the United States, but unfortunately, Putin had other ideas. With the unexpected and unwelcome election of Donald J. Trump, our show became therapy.

Professor Brian Cox and I have always enjoyed teasing Deepak [Chopra]. We called his chatter "The Quantum of Bollocks," for he manages to mix cosmology and bullshit.

America used to be about the pursuit of happiness, but they seem to have exchanged that for the pursuit of money, fame, and Twitter followers.

I'm starting to look forward to Fran's chapters, because Liz's whinging stupidity is getting irritating.

I stood in an elevator at Madison Square Garden after the Ali vs. Quarry world heavy weight fight, face-to-face with Henry Kissinger. Next to me stood his burly security guard. Behind Kissinger stood Ronnie Wood, putting his tongue out and making silly faces all the way down, trying to make me giggle. Kissinger's security guard hadn't a clue what to do.

When I saw The Empire Strikes Back, I was so proud. The scene they shot that morning bears the scars of the evening. Carries lurches out of a spaceship to meet Billy Dee Williams and say, "Hi!" Harrison is still clearly drunk. I remain inordinately proud of the scene I spoiled and hope that one day George Lucas will forgive me.

Liz's continual cruise down the River deNile is getting really tiresome.

When she [Tania, his wife] first arrived, I drove her around London pointing out all the wrong places. "That's Buckingham Palace," I would say, pointing to the Houses of Parliament. "Over there is the Post Office Tower," as I pointed to Big Ben, "and that's the Houses of Parliament," as we drove through Trafalgar Square. She was so jet-lagged she's been confuse ever since.

It was the year of the American Bicentennial.
"What's a Bicentennial?" asked Ronnie Wood.
"It mean America is two hundred years old," said an American proudly.
"Oh, the same age as my house," said Ronnie.

On my return from Oz my actress friend Carinthia West...offered me her basement flat in Praed Street and then kindly told all her female friends I was gay. One by one they crept downstairs to convert me. It turned out to be surprisingly easy.

Men come in three sizes: small, medium, and extremely fucked up.

I once found him and John Cleese in a street laughing their heads off. They had just come across two very attractive young ladies bent over, searching the pavement.

He [Graham Chapman] had studied medicine at Cambridge and was now at St. Barts Hospital, where he was learning to become a fully qualified alcoholic. He also became a doctor, something he freque3ntly warned u about. "Always remember doctors are just ex-medical students."

Saw this on the "New Arrivals" shelf at the library and couldn't resist.

So far...cute, fun, likable protagonist.

The dominant culture--that is, white people--suppressed the notion of a white terrorist [Dylann Roof] because it is impossible to conceive of whiteness as evil, a space decidedly reserved for black and brown people.

His [Trump's] rise is a case study in what happens when the media is controlled by those who have rarely, if ever, been victims of racism, xenophobia, misogyny, and white supremacy; his ideas weren't personally dangerous to them, and so they gave him a platform.

I bought this because I love the author's zombie books. I didn't read the synopsis, so have no idea what the story is "supposed" to be about. Currently wondering how Fran and Liz's threads will connect.
