The story and characters are not without charm, but I'm mildly bored.

The first few pages were DNF-worthy obtuse shite, but after that the narrative backtracks, explains things, and starts making sense.

Gritty, grim Urban Fantasy with a noir tone and not a hint of romance. So far, so good. :)

The characterization is good; nuanced with distinctive voices throughout. Really has me engaged.

And...Mr. Manly Rambo Man with a gun fucks everything up. As expected.
