Enough teen angst. Time for zombies!

Finn is adorkable. My sixteen-year-old self would have been over the moon in love with him.

"They keep saying, 'High school is so important. You have to get serious, Grace Ann, this affects your entire life,' and then they get drunk and shout at each other for hours.

Yep. Your parents are idiots. High school isn't that important. It's just a blip on the highway of life.

This is like a long exercise in purple-prose and metaphor. Interminable.

I have no fucking idea what "Antwerp Blue" is. The color synesthesia thing is getting old.

Too early for a verdict, but as always Laurie Halse Anderson's writing has got me captivated.

At least Leigh isn't acting like a nasty little shit toward Feng anymore. The girl/rivalry/whatever it was hate was getting older than Methuselah.

All the descriptions of food are making me ravenous.

By the time the bell rang, I had written "Correcting a teacher's mistake is not a sign of disrespect" one hundred and nine times.

It isn't. Especially if you're stuck with the kind of morons that taught at my high school.

"Years from now you'll look back on this and what'll you have? Just...a bunch of these pictures. You probably won't even want them anymore. It's like my old Coffee Grind recordings in the back of the office closes--who the hell wants to listen to a bunch of derivative crap..."

It's official. Leigh's dad is a sack-of-shit. Even if he "redeems" himself later...he'll still be a steaming pile.

The tone is young YA or middle reader, but fun, nonetheless. Saw a trailer for the upcoming movie and was curious.

Nice writing and occasionally, emotionally powerful moments. But I've been reading forever, and not much has happened except for Leigh constantly obsessing on her mother: "My mother is a a bird. A bird. A bird." Also, yet another YA novel driven by horrible parenting.

Worry spiked. "Is she okay? Did she hurt herself?" Truthfully, it was only a matter of time before an enormous stack of comics collapsed on top of her.

After a tense second, he spoke. "If I killed this guy you were... kind of with, would you come visit me in prison?

She bit down on her smile, but it spread anyway. "That's funny."

"I'm not joking, love."

Evan is rather irresistible. Daniel, however, needs to be dick punched. What's with his creepy habit of following Evan everywhere? Doesn't rich boy have something else to do?

"I...I produce a web comic," she said,...

The web comic artist and the blacksmith. What an awesome couple!

"I like talking to you," he said. "I'd like to keep doing this. Like...a book club. Would you like that?"

A book club about comic books? Yes, yes, yes, oh, god, yes!

If she said, Oh, I thought you were suggesting that we talk in the future, and I planned to prepare for that interaction in advance because I have to plan most conversation very carefully so that I don't freak other people out...

Ruth is my spirit animal.

She snorted. "you're disgracefully tall. What's your point?

"Disgracefully?"

"It's indecent," she said. "You can't possibly need all that height. One sugar or two?"

Ruth had a policy, when it came to knocked doors; she didn't answer them. She didn't enjoy speaking to people will-nilly; anyone who wanted to see her could arrange it well in advance, preferably by text or email.

Amen, sister. Preach it!

Ove, the driving instructor? I can't imagine a worst thing.

"One always has a bit of sheet metal," says Ove, as if this was absolutely beyond dispute.

It's not? LOL!
I've got several sheets in the back left over from a roofing job. Also, I'm an artist who works in metal.

I think I'm going to love Ruth.

But if anyone had asked, he would have told them that he never lived before he met her. And not after either.

Yeah, this definitely has an "Up" kind of vibe. Ove is a grumpy old bastard, but his obvious love of his wife is moving my stone-cold heart.
