Re-reading the book that introduced me to this author. Forgot about the blog format? So early to mid 2000’s.

Loved Stile’s treatment of the mafia in Excellent Cadavers. Enjoying his treatment of Berlusconi more. Stile is showing me that sometimes real-life is stranger than fiction!

I knew it. Bernie Kosar is not what he seems.

I think the animals are spying on Daniel/John. Bernie Kosar seems a little suspicious.

What can I say. I love narrative non-fiction. Especially when I learn more and become immersed in history. Keefe does a great job here keeping the reader entertained while discussing the horrors of a bloody bit of recent history.

Enjoying the traumatic brain injury bit of this book. I have been through everything (minus the reliance on drugs) that Cadence has—the TBI and the missing memories. The countless doctors visits. Migraines. Repeating junior year of high school (and, in my case, being there 6 years).

Oh yeah. The book is also compulsively readable.

Already in love with the writing. Giving me Truman Capote vibes.

One of 3 books I got for Christmas. Going to try to turn off my history brain that needs me to take copious amounts of notes and just read the book.

The book is getting a little preachy but I am still enjoying it.

What I’m learning is that not every regret is valid. Not every life you wished you had turns out well.

I’ve had to make a lot of big decisions in my life and I always wondered where I’d be had I chose something else, this book is helping take the glamor out of the “what-ifs” of my life.

Couldn’t pick this up yesterday. Hoping I’ll finish today and that it leaves me devastated.

Recommended to me by my first love, Daniel Campbell Smith. I’ve been waiting since June to dive into this, and decided that winter break off from school/work would be ideal. The last book he recommended was Open Water by Caleb Azumah Nelson and I loved that. Hope this book lives up to the hype I’ve created. It’s a Pulitzer Prize winner so… here goes!

Trying to meet my goal of doubling my reading challenge this year while also staying somber and reflective. Haven’t read this since grade school. I remember loving it then.
