I loved this book. A romantic read and historical, too. I never knew about this camp in N. E. United States during world war II. Beautiful prose abd imagery...just like J. Monninger's other books I have read. A must read for historical fiction readers and romantic!

Prisoners, like sawdust to a carpenter, came from wars, plain and simple.

The river made a soft whispering sound. The moon, a half-horn moon, drifted in a troubled sky. The land smelled of spring and the snow hhh ugh up in the hills melting back to the soil.

This book makes me happy! Why? You find out all of the insights and inspiration of 100 Years of Solitude.

Cohn had a wonderful quality of bringing the worst out in everybody.

loving this book because I've read so much memoir stuff on Hemingway, it's lovely to see his life sprinkled through the characters of the page. Much more engrossing to me than Catch 22. Although that dialogue was pretty funny.

Utterly saddened by the ending. I just so wanted just one of the family members to achieve their hopes and dreams. In little ways, some do. Disaster and a looming past full of ghosts and a broken future don't leave room for growth. Meme's story was most disturbing. I loved her spirit. Enough. This book is enough. I do not need to think of it anymore. So consuming. The fate of Macondo mirrors that apocalyptic ending.

& don't marry your cousins.

Savoring each page. I must confess I know the ending. This book has intrigued me so much, I have been researching as I read it. I think I know the meaning of the end. One shot chance at this life so make it count. No repeats.

Colonel Aurelieno just died under the chestnut tree. This may be my favorite paragraph in literature besides the Chinamen description in CRANNER ROW, when J. Steinbeck described what the young boy saw inside the old man's eyes. I must break from reading to savor that paragraph a bit longer. ..

Engrossed beyond words. Remedios the Beauty just ascended through the clouds like Elijah ascended to heaven in the Bible. Ursula is my favorite character.

Finished this book on a trip back to see my family. Loved it. Kate Kerrigan is a special author. She touches your heart with vivid characters with a story you must finish. If you haven't read Kate, yet, you must!
