'The Opposite Door'

Whaaaaat the fuuuuuck? Absolute gibberish. Complete nonsense. I can't even.

'Odoriko Music'

A pretty decent zombie story. I'm not quite sure I 'got' the ending, but I caught the gist at least. I felt it held more promise than it delivered.

'Dead Beat Dad'

A fascinating form in which to explore a story's seed, but one that isn't quite to my taste.

'Finis Origine Pendet (A Villanelle in iambic tetrameter with apologies to Elizabeth Bishop)'

Not a bad story. The alien in a man's skin reminded me of the Great Race, and the allusions at the end whose details are not revealed felt very in keeping true to form. Also the initial format of the story - a transcript of a polygraph session - reminded me favourably of Delta Green (though they would have handled things very differently indeed).

Completely disappointing considering the great seed idea that birthed the story. Just campy overacted madness. Such a waste.

'KPZ STRAZ HYPHEN STARS'

A lengthier story than the others so far, and also a more affecting one - one that I think most people can relate to somewhat. A personal story of dealing with the loss of a close family member, which is a fascinating interpretation of the story inspiration that the author was provided to build upon.

'Exorcise Love - A Memoir'

The awkwardly constructed phrasing of the narrator can be forgiven, and what would otherwise be a thoroughly standard story (of an immortal race of Pharaohs living under the pyramids) gets a humorous twist right at the end.

'The Horror on the Ebon Stair'

Clunky and ineffective, I hope there's more to the rest of these.

'Tape'

Wooooow that was a hell of a way to end the collection. I can't even. I'm not even sure I LIKED the final story (I did), but it sure impressed me.

'Antigenic Dreaming: Interview with the Columns if Clouds'

A humorously surreal war story with a handful of great characters - Micky Tronic, Zeta One, and the Pirate Queen are all great.

'Goddess of Mercy'

A pleasant enough piece, poignant but not particularly remarkable.

'Whale Meat'

A surreal piece concerning a house that is the border between the human world and that of the yokai, as well as the man/brush who resides there. Strangely beautiful in its way.

'One Breath, One Stroke'

An interesting piece about a solder stranded on a small asteroid community after crashing his ship, adapting and integrating into the community.

'Golden Bread'
