A very enjoyable detective vignette heavy on AR. I'd have happily read a whole lot more of this one.

'In Plain Sight'

A strange and surreal short that reminded me somewhat of the Kobo Abe I've read. A desert town one-fifth of the way from the end of the world.

"Division of fractions was the forbidden knowledge that destroyed the ancient world."

'Endoastronomy'

A pretty interesting story that explores some of the ghost mythology of Japan.

'The Sea of Trees'

A pretty interesting look at the existence of child soldiered during and after war, exploring a novel sci-fi concept and with an all-but-inevitable ending.

'The Indifference Engine'

A more serious take on the classic giant robot story seen in so much anime. Poignant.

'Chitai Heiki Koronbin'

'The Sound of Breaking Up' started in one place and ended nowhere near where I'd have thought. A professional proxy, used primarily for breakups, ends up travelling through time in a very, very strange way.

'Mono no Aware' was surprisingly touching for so short a story. The last Japanese man reflects on the last days of the earth before the few survivors left for a centuries long journey to another star and habitable earthlike planet.

I've tried to slog through it but the molasses-like pacing and dryness of the narrative have gotten the better of me. I'm dropping this book.

An interesting beginng. I'm not blown away, but I'll give it a fair chance.

The rocky relationships of a DG agent is one thing, but the undercurrent of secrecy that his wife creates in the back half of the story is what makes this one worthwhile. The final scene blossoms.

'Syndemic'

Not a bad story, though I thought the protagonist's affliction indicating spooky stuff going down to be a bit much. In the end it was alright though, and her run in with the delivery man was great.

'The Lucky Ones'

Aww man, this one cut out right when it was getting good! An old DG item falls into the hands of an unwitting civilian and releases back into the world some death god to seek vengeance on the agents that bested him long ago.

'Boxes inside boxes'

I prefer these longer stories, generally, I think. It's probably why I enjoyed the novels so much. Hopefully there are more of those made. But anyway, this story had its ups and downs, but there were really no punches pulled with the action, that's for sure.

Mmm... yeah, the 'other monster' was alsp a bit on the nose. Damn.

That moment when the mission turns from panicked self-preservation to desperate self-destruction.

Oh. That creature definitely shouldn't have spoken. That was dumb :|
