'The Witcher'. An exemplary Witcher story! Geralt has learned of a contract to lift the curse from a striga, so he sets about investigating the circumstances surrounding the contract - uncovering some seedy goings on - before eventually confronting the monster.

The Slithering Shadow

I liked the beginning of the story, with the thief breaking into the ancient tomb. I was less engaged by the battle between armies later in the story.

Black Colossus

A very fine story. Conan as a thief, featuring a transcosmic being.

The Tower of the Elephant

I liked the weird horror experienced in the tomb at the start of the story, and the strange level of power that Wizard's seem to hold, but I did not care for the drawn out military skirmish at the end.

The Scarlet Citadel

An entertaining story which has convinced me to keep reading these. However, it was not what I was expecting from the first Conan story; he is already a king, lamenting the old days when he was a simple barbarian.

The Phoenix on the Sword

The anecdote about the early 51st State prototype consisting of a bunch of cards with a title and nothing else - absolutely no rules at all - was fascinating.
