Oscillates between fun nostalgia, quite creepy and downright silly. Not what I expected or hoped anyway, if it was a longer book, I'd have dropped it by now.

King at his best means mesmerizing storytelling with small means and undramatic story events (this far anyway)

Lots of the charm which is old sci-fi, not so much of the brilliant prose which is later Bradbury.

Almost gotten all the way used to the translated narrative now and really enjoying the book!

I like the long time-span and the variation in the story these brings. I also like that I cannot really remember how this ended, so I'm held in suspense.

This translation is not very good. Readable, but details get lost or wrong. The great humor and characters comes across well though!

Bit of a slow part here, still fantastic writing though.

Already one of the favorite Banks, really enjoying this.

Started out a bit awkwardly phrased I thought, but it may very well be on account of me translating in my head. Either I got used to it or it was in my head - the story sucked me in very efficiently a bit on.

On sports: "There's no point beating about the bush, I had Lord Nelson's hand-eye co-ordination and the grace of a Meccano giraffe."

Really good part in the Banks series.

Hoping for the validity of the "everything 80's or earlier is risk free"-hypothesis after today's shelf adds.

I think Stephen Fry is amazing and reading the first part of his autobiography is way overdue for me.

One question came to mind though: Is it normal for a grown man to have these kind of detailed memories of when he was 6,7,8 years old? My only reasons for believing I ever was that age are eyewitness accounts from some people I trust...

Both "Dirty Dick" and Hatchley back in action guarantees a non-dull book

Did not see that coming, this is entertaining :-)

Stopped wishing for something to happen. Will finish since it's well written and a decent read anyways. Plus it's short - a not unimportant factor.
