I really appreciate the "Ask an Imam" interludes

This book would benefit massively from some footnotes.

I've been drawn comparisons to Queen Sugar throughout this entire reading experience. Ironically as the audiobook wrapped up learned Oprah is adapting the book.

I put this audiobook on while I did my hair and somehow 3 hours slipped by. I'm glad I'm listening to this, the male narrator brings such gravitas and emphasis to passages I'd have read over.

It feels like I'm reading a whole new book. Grateful for my total lack of short-term memory.

I only intended to read a few pages before bed and somehow managed to read a quarter of this. If that doesn't speak volumes about how engrossing this book is, I don't know what will.

"instead of coiled electrified wires [the compound walls] were topped by jagged pieces of green glass with sharp edges jutting out." I remember seeing this security measure everywhere in Ibadan last summer and having to ask what they were for. It's little observations that paint a picture of the culture at large. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is excellent at that.

Quickly amassing new favourite quotes. Also very surprised at how sharp a turn my opinion on this book took. I felt very 'meh' for about a third of the book but that all changed seemingly in the span of a page.

I could hear Celeste Ng audibly roll her eyes and sigh as one of her characters claimed that people "didn't see race" in Shaker Heights.
