Can I just say how much I hate explanatory commas? That's what footnotes are for! Also, I'm less concerned with Khalid being a more conservative Muslim than I am and more so with the fact that the writing does him a real disservice in painting him as a parody. The dialogue (both internal and external) is so clunky and awkward.
