Argyll was not a nosy person, so he thought, although he would frequently admit to being inquisitive. And it was in the spirit of enquiry, rather than one of nosiness, that he found himself approaching the door softly, just to confirm who it was. He honestly believed that he had not the slightest intention of listening in, an activity he firmly thought was most impolite.

I love this guy

Why had I ever been sent away from the land of the sixpence—the land of half-crowns, ha’pennies, florins, farthings, and shillings, the land of decent coinage, where everything made sense?

lol

I liked the main characters although I must have missed the point when June stops hating Hale's bones and starts thinking his smile is nice. Dunno. The book kept making me fall asleep.
Because it was sloooooooooooowwwww.

(C. Parr) '...All these rich things I wear, the cloth of gold and silken tissue and bright jewels, so many of them have been passed down from Queen to Queen. (...) They are worth so much that they cannot be discarded, any more than the great tapestries.’ She held up her richly embroidered sleeve. ‘This was once worn with a dress of Anne Boleyn’s. I have constant reminders of past events.'

A story for kids I guess. Now I notice that this was written in 1998 *double checks* yup. Well imo it was already 30 years outdated by then. People on another planet with a top technology of tapes and a top security system based on dogs? Yah, sure. *yawns*
