My kind of book really, time travel and all that. But I keep figuring out what's going to happen next...

'“Try and look like an American',” he ordered.

'“How the hell do I do that?”' Russell asked.

'“Look optimistic.'”

'“I’ll try.'” He did.

'“I said optimistic, not doe-eyed.”'

I have learned some remarkable things since becoming a father and I appreciate how much there is still to learn. I know, for example, that a pound coin can pass harmlessly through the digestive system of a four-year-old. I know that regurgitated chicken-flavoured ramen noodles and tomato sauce will ruin a silk carpet; that nail polish sticks to the inside of a bath and too much beetroot turns a toddler’s urine...

‘There you are,’ he said. ‘A lesson. No reading is ever wasted.'

A few moments later Blake muttered, ‘That was your Mr Dickens.’
‘That was Charles Dickens?’ I turned on my heel, but he had long since disappeared amid the pigeons and the shooting galleries. ‘Why did you not say before?’
‘See him all over town, always at a rattling pace. Not a man who wants to be stopped.’

“You ever read Look Homeward, Angel?”
“Fuck, no. It must be a thousand pages long. Why would I want to do that?”
“I knew there was a reason why I liked you,” said Louis.

I shook my head. “It’s an Appaloosa. Isn’t that the horse the Cheyenne traditionally rode into battle?”
“It was, because by the time you ride an Appaloosa some distance, you are ready to kill anything.”

I felt like the Angel of Death; if I stood on a lawn, the grass would die.

It's been two years (Two years??) since I read book 1 but I remember it being way better than this... **bored

Wonder if somebody is keeping a body count in this series.

This must be one of those authors that gets paid by word count.

"He got a call from his office telling him to stay home, and his briefcase is still here, his phone is still here, his jacket is still here, his wallet is still here, his credit cards are in it, his driver's licence is in it, his keys are in the kitchen."

Wonder if his shoes are still here. Who talks like that?
