I am pretty sure you can write a novel without using the word "bump" 3 times per page.
She goes to a house full of people and children and everybody "stare at her bump" What? Did they found those kids in a basket?
I get it she's pregnant, massive, a whale. I don't need to be reminded every paragraph.
Geez

Quite good thriller about a police sergeant trying to save a Jewish child.
"Jacob stood in front of Rossett, arms folded across his chest and one foot on top of the other, taking up as little space in the world as he could."
...but everybody, every faction is out to chase them because the kid has a secret.
I liked Rossett and his awakening to a conscience.
Non stop action. Final scene open for next book(s).

Very interesting the historical story about the people trying to smuggle Jew kids out of France during the war and the mystery of who betrayed them.
But...
Maybe I wasn't paying enough attention but I'm very confused with all the names, the name changes, the kid -or kids-, who was the mother(s), the father(s)... ow.

Can I ask you something?’
‘Oui.’
‘Does it ever scare you to imagine people and things that aren’t, like, there?’
Rochat thought about it.
‘Non. Can I ask you something now?’
‘Sure.’
‘Don’t you ever imagine things?’
