I may in fact be more invested in their marriage than Ven and Cae are. Fortunately, they have hundreds more pages in which to develop feelings.

I say this with love--you know you've read a lot of Mary Balogh when you reach the early-on part where all the main characters' family and friends and neighbors are introduced, and you read thoughtfully through the names and titles and professions, trying to pick out who will be MCs/love interests in the coming books.

Starting this because I probably should not bring a book called Bitch to work with me...so "trans teen survives Biblical apocalypse" it is. Let me just mutter "Suck it, Tim LaHaye, I hope your last words were 'Don't smite me, o mighty smiter!'" as I open the title page.

As I read this on my 44th birthday, I am somewhat painfully aware that both protagonists are less than half my age. On the other hand, I can follow their conversations, online and in-person, and know the memes they're referencing, so I'll count this as a win.
