It's a stirring, informative narrative about the battle w/ the British for American independence. We have much to be thankful for... so many unknown heroes and patriots who could envision a future for us as a united and sovereign nation. I am glad I am listening to this rather than reading it, as the details are easier for me to focus on in this format.
I will finish in time for the 4th of July!

I am so engrossed by the stories of Jamie and Tad that I can hardly tear myself away from it. Thankful for fervent recommendations from fellow readers!

Audio book read by the author... full of American heroes with whom I am not familiar or knew little about. The physical descriptions and the personality details make these figures come alive! It's great!

Lisa Lawrence is on page 203 of 352 of Bloodland: A Family Story of Oil, Greed and Murder on the Osage Reservation
The author is full of bitterness about the white man's treatment of Native Americans, which is indeed an ugly and despicable tale. He learned of his own Osage heritage in an unusual way, so the book is full of his coming to terms w/ it. The family story is interesting and full of mystery, but his personal struggles come across as pathetic.

Wow, this is so wonderful, so vivid, so full of real emotions and human experience... I want it to keep on going... and have started reading slowly to make it last.

I love a book about sisters. Alternating narrators is also good. The words from languages like Spanish are here in NM and AZ: arroyo, acacia tree. Names: Cosima and Halimeda.

Unbelievable. Right here, not long ago, millions of dollars and many lives... surely the Universe will call these greedy white men to account for their sins. Justice belongs to God, I believe, but the crimes against the Osage people have me feeling vengeful!

Wonderful! It has, of course, inspired me to read Anne and Emily Bronte next. They're new to me! Now they're like friends.

Disturbing; no wonder Native Americans continue to mistrust white people. Rampant racism and greed in the recent past. I'm sickened.

This is a treasure of many levels: a number of titles for my "to-be-read" list; a dozen or more ideas to discuss w/ my book-loving friends; and so many anecdotes and comments that mirror my own experiences as a reader... plus one epiphany that is deeply moving and in fact a lovely gift to my own past, present, and future!

Excellent! The story is enhanced by a recent TV special on the Brontes. I can visualize them!

Is there no end to greed? To racism? To one person's willingness to harm another in the name of false superiority and misplaced entitlement?
