It’s interesting so far.

Now we’re getting to what prompted me to read this in the first place - Thea becoming a singer. She’s still pretty much a child piano prodigy.

Chapter 5 - Aesthetic Judgement

This situation seems impossible.

This is dark, but so good! The narrator, Zoe Mills, has this affectation of gasping after 75% of all lines. It is a little annoying.

My first Willa Cather! I like the style very much so far. I’ve also had to look up a number of items that are no longer in use these days.

I wish lettuces were soporific! Floppy bunnies!

The chapter on Vocal Registers is so valuable.

Unfortunately, listening to this audiobook while doing other things (mostly driving) is not conducive to actually understanding what is happening. The purple prose isn’t helping.

As part of the Smartypants challenge (non-fiction on Art, Music or the Performing Arts), I’m going to push for the next two weeks to work through this seminar work by my late teacher and mentor. It is dense and I want to understand EVERYTHING, so I doubt I’ll finish, but this will keep me on track.
