“It was necessary that Cyrus should find the Persians discontented with the empire of the Medes, and the Medes weak and effeminate through long peace.”

He makes a long peace sound like a bad thing. Effeminate! Yes! I’ll take it as a positive statement and that Cyrus was a power-hungry bully.

China on the Moon. Very interesting, but I’m not sure exactly what it means.

First chapter: God the Father — God the Mother?

It is hard for us humans to conceive of a God who just is and is neither male nor female. And because of history, patriarchal societies and probably more we have erred on the side of male. It is time to rethink this and recognize God’s feminine side (so Rohr). And maybe God’s non-binary side?

Argh. Another instance of the narrator and/or the producer/editor of the audiobook not doing their duty of checking pronunciations. This time mispronouncing the opera singer’s name, saying Reese Stevens rather than Risë (Ree-say) Stevens.

Vol. 2 chapter 7 - “In Little Marlow there was an old woman”. Heard this as I was driving through Little Marlow!! Such serendipity!

The next narrators of chapters 6 and 7 were quite good, thank God. Thank you Christine Blanchford and Xe Sands (especially Xe!) for excellent reading! Luckily, Xe reads the last 2 chapters of Volume 2.

God the narrator of this chapter is really awful. He hesitates at all the unfamiliar words (there are a lot of them!) and it’s riddled with mispronunciations! Ugh. Why didn’t Jude Somers narrate Vols. 2 & 3? Col. 1 was great!

Oh wow. Some critic (don’t remember who) said of the news that Ella would be recording a Cole Porter songbook thus, “CP’s songs have always been distinguished by a definite measure of intelligence… Intelligence is not something to which her voice could ever lay claim”
As a vocalist, I find that particularly insulting since Ella’s voice and singing and musicality is almost 2nd to none.
