Claremont was just so damn good at characterization. This Cyclops/Corsair stuff is fantastic (not to mention the genuinely friendly rivalry between Cyclops and Storm).

I know captions and thought bubbles are considered antiquated and quaintly gauche by most modern comic writers, but I always thought that, well-used, they added depth to the story.

Why do I feel like it's usually smart schools that have naked campus events (runs, winter olympics, etc.)? Is it just because it's the only way smart kids get to see naked people? (Asking for a friend.)

This is just amazing...and perhaps a sign that Goodreads' "Recommendations" algorithm could, um, use a bit of tweaking (though there's no denying that SBTB is just as trippy as The Invisibles).

That Iceman solo story is a little gem.

Whenever the Usgar go raiding, it makes me think of that scene in The 13th Warrior when the Wendol come down from the mountain...

And then it makes me remember that everyone thought that movie was terrible, but I stand by it as a solidly entertaining, delightfully atmospheric slice of pseudo-medieval adventure. So there.

"Sauron" is an intimidating bad guy name. "Karl" is not.

It's not your job to feed his ego, X-Men--I don't care how big and green and pterydactylish he is; you just keep calling him Karl so he knows he's not all that tough.

This is Hickman being even Hickmanier than he was in Manhattan Projects, and that was the most Hickman thing I've ever read.

I can't wait until my surname is an adjective.

(To be fair, I've often heard men lamenting that they "Gibsoned it in bed the other night," which apparently meant they did not satisfy their significant other in any way...hoping that's some other Gibson, though.)

Whether you've read The Camelot Shadow and want more or have been contemplating that dive but want to dip your toe in first, I think you'll dig spending some time with Will Upton, bookseller extraordinaire

This is peak X-Men for me, so I'm not really saying this as a complaint, but it's amazing how much longer it takes to read a Claremont comic compared to one written by a normal human. I'm fairly certain these issues defy physics by cramming in more words per page than any known laws would allow for...

Jeez, Riddler (or do I actually directly address you as "The Riddler"?)...you're kind of making Hannibal Lecter look like Mr. Rogers with a better tailor here, you bloodthirsty writing-desk lover.

All right, we're at the halfway point here...shall we get the battle going already?

"Honor" in war is a strange concept. It seems arbitrary to impose (or, at least, to applaud) minor restrictions on killing (e.g., "He was so brave--let him retreat with honor") when your stated objective is to annihilate your opponent. I suppose it's a necessary intellectual construct to help your brain cope with the fact that you're killing people for no rational reason (well, not sufficiently rational reason).

No need to have read The Camelot Shadow; like Hamburger Helper, this story does just fine on its own.

I get the "bad boys are hot" cliche, but c'mon, Storm...are we really going to swoon over disfigured dictators who talk in the third person, think a forest-green cape over body armor is the height of fashion and whose hobbies include tyrannical repression of the common folk?
