The writing is excellent, but I was starting to wonder if I have it in me to read a Game of Thrones-esque epic... Then I finished part 1, and I found myself quickly moving onto part 2 wanting to know what happens next, so I guess I have my answer!

The stories in this anthology are amazing, each possessed of gorgeous imagery, but they're also brutal in their descriptions of the fury of Hurricane Maria. I can't read more than 2 or 3 at a time. Each story is a heavyweight emotional punch right to gut.

Some of the dialogue in this early part is both ugh cringeworthy but also pure D&D.

I'm having nostalgia for the Forgotten Realms of my youth, so I've decided to read some of the classic novels. I know I read this book back in the day, but rereading it I'm finding that I don't remember anything, so it's like I get to read it for the first time again!

This book. It's not at all what I thought it would be, what the writer thought it would be, but what an experience it has been so far.

Excellent introduction to Jesus's Jewish reality and how it permeates his life as depicted in the gospels.

Story that hooks you from the start, good pacing, nonstop action, interesting characters, magical car racing, interstellar treasure maps. And that's just by chapter 4!

Back to this book after a break.

Putting this down. It started ok, but it meandered way too much to the point of obscuring the plot it was working to develop. It lost me.

I'm greatly enjoying this book. It's a bit slow, there's that, but it's cool to have a Solar System-based sci-fi adventure.

Pausing because the library loan ended. Will continue when I can renew it, or buy it. This book is excellent.

The first section is interesting (bonus points for being in Milwaukee, where I lived for a year), but this is dense stuff. Immersive, but dense. It'll take a while to get through it.

Yes, I know I'm reading a handful of other books at the same time, but the impending release of the new edition of Vampire has me in the mood for this.

Still reading it, it's just that this isn't a read-all-the-way-through kind of book.

I'm shelving this for a while. It's not a bad book, but it's not a good book either. The essays are all over the place as to how they approach the books of the Appendix, and the author's voice is starting to grate on me as he rides dangerously close to the Look-How-Smart-I-Am line. I need a formal break.

I love what this game does with the races of the universe: here's the flavor text for the race in juicy detail, you determine what they look like in your game. I was initially like, wait, can you do that in a roleplaying game? But yes, yes you can.

Five per-cent in, and I'm already fuming at the historical status-quo that sells us a sanitized version of history (and this is having already known how much of an asshole Columbus was!).

This is gonna be a read-by-bits book, so it'll be a while. That said, it is interesting, especially for me since I get to visit Celebration often and have wondered about the very things the book is talking about.

I'm very curious to find out where this novel is heading. It's a good book, but I can't say I've figured out what's the point we're driving toward.

It took a bit to get going while it set up the main character and situation, but it delivered a nice surprise when it introduced the alien race.
