The ornate style of writing is not usually my thing, but it aligns well with the culture and the story. Rather romanticized and dramatic, the narrative voice toggles back from grandmother telling her tale to grandchildren to her remembrances of her youth.
Thus far, the novel reminds me how happy I am to live in a place and time where I am not sold like chattel under the guise of family obligation.
